  1. is the 990 pro out yet anywhere? last ive seen was like a january release (planned).
  2. lol that Linus reaction will always be legendary and priceless 😄 but yeah, just switch off and run along, no biggie 🙂 hahaha i knooooow ive seen so many butthurt users on overclock.net, basically every port royal score above 29k is called into question. but its kinda true, variance seems to be unusually high lately with similar clocks, that should not be the case with a proper benchmark worth its designation as such! issue in the end is that users that do their due diligence in bios finetuning, OS decrapping and pulling all tricks in the book get crapped on by n00bs who just got lucky with a wonky run and bam u get big discussions.
  3. may i ask, why would they refuse to register here? in the beginning right after NBR closure its understandable since a proper successor was still to be determined. but now its pretty safe to say that NBT is the true mental successor to NBR, albeit still in the growth phase 🙂 but good things take time, as we all know! and it definitely has the right spirit to take over from NBR if u ask me.
  4. yeah sure, now that theyve realized theyve fired too many 😂 higher turnover than Amazon?! how is that even possible, lol. amazon is already having troubles finding new ppl because theyve USED UP THE WHOLE ELIGIBLE US POPULATION!!! how much worse than that can u actually get? omg 😂 phew, such frequent "updates" are a tight rope balancing act... ive gotten used to implement this for myseff, i.e. make short n quick notes on what ive done on a work day to keep track of my accomplishments - comes in handy at the midyear and end of year reviews as well as salary or promotion related negotiations - and, most importantly, it helps me keep a healthy work life balance and not lose sight of any potential OT. however, if such things become requirements it gets annoying and overbearing VERY easily and just causes unnecessary extra work. having regular (like weekly) update meetings to be on the same page is different, because that is not in the context of "justifying" one's existence at the workplace but rather just alignment of the team and clarification / tackling of unknowns and issues.
  5. this is only an issue if ure worried about official warranty. if u just go by actual reliability, rest assured ur samsung ssd will have closer to like an order of magnitude higher TBW before it gives out on you
  6. damn, desktop core on mxm as an actual product and not just a DIY project, thats awesome! 🙂 but yeah can already see they had to go with a wonky package orientation just to make it fit on a standard mxm card 😅
  7. thx for posting guys! for the record, im baffled at the sometimes weird reporting on intel raptor lake vs. zen 4 specs, value and performance. unfortunately, it seems that for both camps there are still fanatics around that twist any and all small / irrational advantages towards their side. prime example for Intel fanboys: testing the 13900k with ddr5-6800 at the edge of stability (not all cpus can just do 7000+ out of the box, esp with a quick n dirty setting) but comparing it to mainstream ddr5-6000 on zen4. 6000 might be "sweet spot" in terms of value but if u go bleeding edge u can also push to 6600 on zen4. and then at the same time arguing that raptor lake is the "value" option because it offers ddr4 😂 so which is it, Intel fanboy?!?! prime example for AMD fanboys: zen4 is super efficient and lower power than raptor lake, even though were talking 250+ watts at stock! does that really matter vs. 275 watts?! plus, u can always tune the voltages a bit (on both sides!) and gain way more efficiency. and sure, platform longevity is a big factor here but there are lots of Alder Lake users out there who just want to upgrade their cpu, not their whole platform! get over yourself, AMD fanboy! my point being: we are at a point where both platforms are SO good that in the end its down to personal preference. but u cant go wrong either way: sorry for the rant guys, just had to get this out there 😋
  8. wait, this has been up since april? huh? or did u update with a new item? just checking! awesome card tho for an awesome price, good luck 🙂
  9. ummm....i wouldnt personally trust everyday stability of a production system on smth like geekbench 😅 best to do both load and longterm idle tests, including loads that u personally actually use on that system. aside from that also include worst case stuff like p95 with/without avx, blender, CB23 etc. the more various tests, the better to ensure overall stability. soooo, from an actual 4090 owner perspective: yes ECC can easily be enabled / disabled in NCP, simple checkbox. also judging from other 4090 owners enabling ECC is bad for benching since it tops out earlier than without ECC. i personally leave it disabled and finetune going by visual inspection (artifacts) and actual performance gains (as long as it goes up with higher clocks its fine). in the end, i always prefer to have MORE manual options and control than less. remember guys, its not always JUST about heavy benching and collecting points on the bot 😋 different ppl use the same hardware for different purposes.
  10. might be worth it to check with the rainbow master on this?
  11. ahno, they dont have remasters, at least not yet. theyve just been updates a bunch of times since original launch 🙂 yeah surprising to see how much power the Arctic fans have at such relatively low rpm and noise levels. im gonna deck out my casse with P12 and P14 fans! good to see i wouldve instinctively gone with the correct orientation 😎
  12. agreed, this kind of stuff should be made acceptable or deemed as a role model. otherwise, no one as an employee could feel safe anymore or plan ahead for their own future. and sure, accidental dismissal, who hasnt experience that before....? 😄 true, its baffling how many people seem to be using LI more and more to promote their own personal agendas, totally weird and out of place. but still, really helps to stay in touch with prof. network and has helped me in the past get into positions 🙂 i guess theres always pros and cons with such things. oh shocked, totally unexpected... 😛 😄
  13. aaah yes! basic display with wifi adapter connected to servers that do the actual computing. chomebooks FTW 😄
  14. luckily, im not really the social media type, so this whole twitter thing for me is like: i only use LinkedIn for career stuff, Whatsapp for everyday messaging and NBT to scratch my tech itch 😁
  15. haha nice, are u replaying them now, one by one? im doing the same with the Wolfenstein series, so awesome to see them all absolutely maxxxxed out and ultra fluid 😁
  16. haha good, as long as those overclocks dont crash ur system while ure doing some critical work on it 😄 that could work in theory, but doesnt help if shops report stacks of 4080s laying around in their warehouse collecting dust. the initial investment of actually designing and building / shipping those gpus wouldnt make up for the uptick in 4090 sales haha
  17. glad to hear bud! keep an eye out for instabilities, might take a while to be sure. and yeah, that Asus cancerware is complete garbage. insane how deeply it actually penetrates the OS...almost impossible to get rid of it again.
  18. Vista! omg 😄 thats saying a lot hahaha
  19. haha not need to be jealous man, especially not with a frigging 55 INCH 4K TV! 😄 LOL thanks a ton for the kind words my man! hahaha that put a big smile on my face reading this comment 😁 its been a bit hectic lately, trying to carve out 1-2 hours a day to play around with Hyperion, but its not easy haha. currently packing stuff up and moving to a new appartment, plus my new job starts in Dec (talk about a lot of change in a small time frame 😅) regarding the RGB, i can see it getting boring real quick, will likely change to a solid color soon (like white or aquamarine blue, along those lines). total black out wouldnt be for me, wanna see my hardware, even in the dark haha. as for the spending, its kind of a mix up if u ask me. on DTRs u dont have as much flexibility and addon stuff u might be able to purchase, but the hardware is WAY more expensive in terms of price to performance. on the desktop though, u can go absolutely bonkers with addons and accessories, which makes it a total money pit LOL. i actually listed the component prices in the OP if u wanna look it up haha. but lets see, so far the total bill comes to... 7430€, thats including taxes and shipping. im still waiting on the X670 Asus cashback promotion to pay out, then itll be down to roughly 7300€. im not done yet though LOL. still need to get more fans to stack out my monster case and improve airflow, need a high cap HDD for backup purposes, a colorimeter to properly calibrate my display, an internal 10 inch display to show monitoring data, maybe some LED strips / thermal pads / misc. cables for some tuning fun. id say another 1000-1500€ to go before the battlestation is fully ready and kitted out 😄 LOL mind you, all that money is just disposable income, our actual savings are currently dwindling due to more serious stuff like buying a card, getting mobiliar and stuff for the baby, downpayment for the new appartment, etc... haha but those are investments into the future, so its fine.
  20. im pretty sure somewhere there are Elon fanatics who manage to tell the story in a way that their hero comes out an absolute 4D chess genius 😛 dunno about being able to turn it around... seems more like trying to save face now. he realized its not a good idea before going through with the deal, thats why he tried getting out of it, unsuccessfully. and now were in damage control level 1000 😄 whats that about? didnt hear anything... ha nice comparison to Boris 😄 and pretty accurate, i might add! LOL exactly my thinking... especially in their current status of total chaos. sure sure, completely iron-clad such a poll hahaha
  21. oh oh, wait! i got another one! - soldered power cable - soldered display connection - soldered keyboard - abandon any and all ports, go fully wireless the future looks grand! /s
  22. im sporting a Seasonic TX-1600, it has a 2x8 pin to 16-pin cable included with the psu. i noticed that same with having a hard time to pull that cable out. and even after double checking proper seating i still get worried when reading all these posts and news, ugh. just annoying this whole thing. overclock ALL the things 😄 i love it haha this might have been the other potential scenario that GN mentioned in their analysis, namely particles on the pins causing excessive resistance and thus runaway thermals. lol ikr... i mean, ok, i havent been to the desktop game for quite a while but ive been building and messing around with computers since i was like...7? 8? and all this mess has even me second-guessing myself the whole time. but i mean, of course im worried about the most friggin expensive part of my brand spanking new machine. im hoping for this breakthrough to already be the non-acceptance of 4080 cards, apprently they sell like CRAP (as in: the 7600X sales in comparison are STELLAR lulz): nice sum up of what were doing here 😄 in technology itself for sure. only valid reason for that being if u end up making money with that tech, i.e. using it for business and speeding up your workflows. otherwise its just a luxury hobby, pretty much.
  23. i was referring to the golden contact pads of the cpu. same for the pins in the socket. fingers crossed for you bud that the MSI board helps 🙂 as for Asus Bios, new one just got released for my mobo: havent flashed yet but planning to. changelog sounds promising. i already know i can reach 6400 on the RAM but havent finetuned it yet. curious to see if 6600 or above will be possible in the future (but then only in "Gear 2" mode like the Intel CPUs reaching 7200+).
  24. quite the "fun" 44B$ meme id say lulz
  25. thats basically the conclusion that GN also came to: its a combination of the latch not indicating a loud enough "click" when fully inserted and also the connection is SO tight that someone might assume proper connection even when not all the way in. when i checked mine for any burn marks recently i had a similar experience that there was not really an audible click. i could just verify fully seated position by judging the location of the connector edge relative to the gpu edge (in addition to pushing like crazy against it until i was absolutely sure there was nothing more that could go in lol). so yeah, its a combo of a sub-optimal design and user error. this leads to half-connected cables being strained additionally by over-bending. plus, the uber-tight fit due to the small design increases the likelihood or particles coming loose (be it metallic or plastic) and altering the connector resistance in such a way as to aid in runaway temperature and melting.... funny enough, this means that there are no "good" or "bad" cables out there, ALL of them can fail under these circumstances 😄 VERY curious to see how an Nvidia sanctioned v2 of such a cable will look like....
