  1. Having looked to the problem and going back and forth, I decided to go for a new GPU. I ordered and got a PNY MXM RTX 3000. Paying 200 euros in total for it. It arrived and I used my AMD 100Watt heatsink. Worked like a charm, exept two mosfets next to the core that also needed cooling. I placed an extra alouminum heatsink with thermal pads and held it doww with the casing. I will try to take a photo of it. I had also installed windoww 11, hoping a fresh OS install might solve the issue, but not. So with windows 11, and drivers from NVinstall, I went ahead to test the GPU. SAME PROBLEM. Error with the dxgmms1.sys. Read the minidump and searched for solutions. Turns out the HP GPU might be OK. Ruled out that maybe a windows update might be the problem. No luck there. I tested my 980m without issues, but in PEG mode. I am using both RTX in SG mode. A post from reddit said to disable the iGPU. I was afraid because disabling the iGPU might result in a black screen and possibly another OS fressh install. Next was a BIOS change. Both BIOS from Techpowerup bricked the GPU. Reverting back to original BIOS, everything works great in windows, except gaming or benchmarking. So I pulled the trigger and disabled the iGPU from the system devices. I didn't get a black screen, nor a crash. I lost brightness control, but nvidia panel took that role. But 3D performance was terrible. Though everything run fine, I literally got half the performace, depsite everything run at full speed. But it was something, I was near the solution. I DDU everything, and grabbed the drivers for the HD 4000 from Dells website. I also intalled the latest 547.17 drivers. Again the same error. Still dxgmms1.sys whenever I fired up a proper 3D appication. After hours of browsing, I came across another post, saying that on a september of 2023, both windows 11 and 10, made an system upgrade, adding (maybe) some GPU settings. I found that page and changed the setting a bit. After a system reboot, everything was working as it should!!! I could not belive that a system setting, got me through all this trouble and wasted money and time. Now I have in my inventory two 980m, an HP RTX 3000 with a modded heatink and a bracket and an PNY/AETINA RTX 3000 currently in my system. Thank God everything works.
  2. I put back my 980m and run it in SG mode. Installled drivers and everything is working as it should! Too bad, it seems there might be a problem with the RTX itself.
  3. Yes, I haven't flashed any BIOS. I used the one that came with the gpu. It worked though almost a month. Plus when I benchmarked it, I saw the core speed going to 1800mhz! I thought it boosted to 1300mhz MAX!
  4. Yes. GPU is showing itself normally on windows. GPUZ is showing it also. With idle clocks, temps and voltages. I want to belive that it isn't a hardware issue!
  5. I did a fresh install. Also tried 5xxx and 4xx drivers. Though it did started happening when the latest w10 update. Gpu is shown in bios, gpu is shown in windows, drivers load just fine and the problem occurs when 3D hardware is needed. Even Epic launcher crashes windows if I select it to run. Steam works fine though. Youtube videos also work fine. Stremio crashes on the other hand. I am trying to rule out the hardware problem!
  6. Recently I upgraded to an HP RTX 3000. Almost a month of usage for my AW M18x R2 and now when I utilize any 3D application, windows crashing almost immediately with a 'dxgmms1.sys' error. I mod the mainbord mxm slot a bit I installed a dell x-bracket I got an extra heatsing and modded it and secured the GPU to the mainboard, using a custom bracket. Switching to internal graphics, the problem goes away. I did almost everything to rule out the 'software' error. DDU drivers Installled drivers with NVinstall Mod the drivers to rule out any error Even wiped out windows and installed them fresh. (Clean install, no recovery) Lastly, I was always monitoring the GPU hotspot and core temps while gaming and never saw temps above 75 degrees. Any ideas anyone?
  7. Cost is near the cost of the GPU itself. I am trying to find people I know in France to take delivery.
  8. I also wanted that. They don't sell outside France
  9. It's totally worth it. Having to deal with the scaling problems that SLI has, and the fact trying to figure out the best settings each time, is a win-win upgrade. Plus I no logner need my dual psu mod.
  10. I also went ahead and installed an RTX 3000. I got my hands on an HP one. It required a lot of modding, but the result was tottaly worth it. Perfomance was in par with my 980m SLI. I will make a post about the install too. Firestrike Result http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/101435071?key=tDFP6R6-PP4AwmVNPe7T0A
  11. Ebay. I have an HP variant and it needs modding to make it work. Look for the ads and maybe one will pop up. I got mine that that way and still trying to make it work for my m18x R2. I have it for sale just to stop myself from messing around 😄
  12. I recently saw that mxm to egpu adapters exist. Could this breath new life to our MXM laptops? Has anyone tried it and share some feedback? Adapter Information
  13. That's something. Failed to run the game is because the older drivers don't support it. But if you don't have any crashes with the older drivers, at least tells us that your GPU is ok in terms of hardware. You said you got a heatsing from ebay. Your temps (assuming this is idle) are too hot. I always thought 1070 runs cooler than 980. Use GPUz to see the temparature on the hot spot of the gpu. I use that when gaming to know when things are going downhill. I will try a 1070 in the future, when price drops a bit to see if it will have any success. Please post results if you have any regarding the process.
  14. Maybe do the modding only in one of them at the time. Best chance, nv_disp only. Do post results. I am am very interested in this project, Because I might follow your path too.
  15. This gpu, and possibly any 2080 will not fit, let alone power itself, from an Alienware 18. It's a 200 watt gpu. Also the cooler will not be able to handle it. And if you do manage to fit it, and put the cooler accordingly, it will need extra power supply. I have bought two of my 980m from a seller of Eurocom at the old NBR forum, at stupid price. One failed before the warranty expired and he didn't wanted to send me another. I did sent the broken one to them, never got back what the problem was, and was offered to buy another one at a lower still hi-priced money. Possibly a 1080 has been tested by a member here and it is a one manufacturer - specific purpose only. It is not a retail gpu. I would stay away from this options.
  16. Looking your two gpu sheets, seems everything to be ok. Also I looked up the samsung ram chips from your first post, and it checks out that it is 8GB. I might have another idea. Driver related idea. I have read somewhere that if your GPU is PEG (like the 780m you had) it needs to modify different file that having your GPUs as SG. Driver will installed as it should no matter which file you edit, but problems (possibly like yours) might arise. So for PEG gpus (single dedicated or sli configurations), nvdmi has to be edited For SG gpus (intel + any other gpu), nv_disp has to be edited. The names of the files are almost similar to any version of drivers. Possibly NVclearinstall overlooks this issue with "custom" gpu setups.
  17. That is something I haven't seen from the days I had a PCI Voodoo Banshee in my Pentium Desktop. I remember this setting when I set the resolution too high! Might be the culprit of bad Video Ram, or wrong capacity ram chips. Your GPU might be refurbished with other ram chips that the total amount is less than 8GB, as it should be. A closer look at what the ram chips have on them, could help indicating the problem. Before disassembly, try even older drivers. Go for a 35x.xx vesrion.
  18. I would suggest using official drivers. Modded drivers may contain settings not suitable for custom projects, like the one you are facing.
  19. Might if I suggest something. Before calling the GPU a scrap, might try an older set of drivers. Like a set from 4xx series or even from 35x series where the 1070 got first introduced (if I am not mistaken). Randomly crasing to desktop seems like a power issue or a driver issue. Rarely a Hardware issue. Use DDU to remove any drivers and try to edit the older ones and not use NVinstaller. I am speculating the card in not getting enough power, that is why it is failing. Also all of the above GPU suggestions will not work. They are not in standard MXM 3.0 format and maybe they will run in clearence issues, or improper heatsink installation. Best avoid.
  20. I believe the write up is correct. Please post resutls because I am hasitating to buy a GPU from AliExpress. I also have an SLI with dual 980m. Also Blindflash is not slang. It is literally a Blind Flash because you cannot see anything in the process. You only follow steps and hear beeps till it boots (or not😄).
  21. 4. Do not set it to SG if you have SLI. If you do, you might get 8 or 5 beeps. If you have SLI set it to iGFX (the internal gpu). After this, if something goes wrong and you need to downgrade to A03, you have to remove the 1070 because if it is successful, you will get 8 beeps and it might trick you that the process failed. Just remove completely any gpu, downgrade to A03 and let it boot with the internal graphics.
  22. Everything @Maxware79 write is true. I am only stating in order to flash the unlocked A12 you must already be at the official Dell A12. if you have updated to the latest (I think A14) you need to downgrade to official A12. We never had the issue to downgrade, because the time the 1070 came out, and people tried it, A12 was already the latest. You can try to flash A12 over a later version but it might fail, or it might work. I don't know because I never had a 18. If it fails, you need to blindflash the A03 bios through the "recovery" method. Search for alienware bios recovery method. After you downgrade to A03, you can flash the A12 official and lastly the A12 unlocked. Having finished all the above steps, remove the current drivers with DDU, reboot and set the bios to SG. Then you can install the 1070.
  23. Important part is the prepetation. I have a M18x R2 so the process is almost similar. The trickiest part I belive is to downgrade to A12 unlocked if you have a higher version. Just flashing an older version over an earlier version can cause problems (I think!)
