    Yeah I noticed that its just 4 layers, 2 Base layers (MAC/WIN) with 2 Fn layers. You can obviously switch it to where the layers are meaningless and toggle between 4 independent layers but that might not jive well with the physical switch. When I was changing some of the keys I thought i was doing it wrong since nothing was being reflected when I realized that I changed the "mac" side and not the "win" side. I also had to use the alternative method to allow VIA access to the keyboard as well. Personally I would rather just have the raw format, VIA is great for quick changes but it doesnt seem like I can use the code I have from my other devices in VIA. The keyboard also isnt officially accepted into QMK libraries if I understand it correctly so I cant "build" and compile keymaps which is pretty disappointing. I'll have to see if I can do it independently.

    Keep in mind the forum is being hosted out of pocket, so the amount each member can post is also limited. If you delete some of your older pictures, your space will free up. That all being said this forum does embed picture from hosting sites very well.

    Well during the time I didnt have any PC's and wasnt permitted one for around 6 months, otherwise I agree. I was using my phone to take my QMK documentation and proofing home and bring back for further proofing at the time. Its one of those something better than nothing scenarios

    The only thing that irks me about Pixel is that there is no desktop mode. Would make work a lot more convenient but I take pictures pretty often and they are very very often very clean for how quick I can snap a picture and move on to other tasks so I try to see it as a trade off (without having looked at Galaxy pics of course lol)

    I used to hold a bunch of spare parts for a couple of our clients that let's just say was buddy buddy with the ceo. We kicked them to the curb and they told me to get rid of it. I put some in 6x hp t630's for potential homelab cluster. Then I forgot that I had them until this last weekend when I started repurposing my mining hardware into homelab virtual sandboxes. Going to use the sandboxes for homelab but I've also been interested in gpu pass through as well.

    You can easily check and see how a given title runs on linux via https://www.protondb.com/ which is a steam plugin if I understand it correctly.

    You vote with your wallet, I didnt like having to deal with social club + Games for Windows live so I dont have any interest in RockStar titles. Its not like they need my purchase and I dont need their games. Fairly certain that the last title I have from them is Max Payne III. There are more Operating Systems than just Windows :)

    I wrote off Rockstar some time ago when they used Games for Windows live, havent touched any of their games since.

    I hadnt heard about it, but its good to know! This was just what kept me from iPhone in the past, around iphone 3/4 era, so I am sure there are a large number of improvements surrounding the topic since then :)

    Not a single synthetic benchmark was run for this thread as its not the intended purpose. This system is for my DD stuff, gaming, web browsing etc and benching is doing on the 10850K system. Console will give a gaming experience but its essentially a terminal within a walled garden. The moment you decide you want to play Metroid Prime you have to repurchase it if you have the right console and/or buy the right console, rebuy it there. The other option is you could just spin up your copy on your PC and play with a better framerate and higher visual fidelity heck in some cases there are texture packs too. Lately I have been playing a bit of Assetto Corsa and you can mod that game to a higher degree than probably skyrim. You play on keyboard and mouse? odd but go ahead. All you have is a controller? There are scripts for that to make it more enjoyable. Oh you have a wheel, pedals and shifter? go ahead! Oh you want to add feedback into your steering rack and pedals? go for it! Oh you have a full roll cage and nvidia surround? no problem! You want to drive a car that doesnt exist in the game? download and done. I just comes down to what you can imagine doing on said system. Consoles are great for picking up a controller and playing a game, PC's are great for people that like to the same thing, with potential to dare for more.

    You are probably right, it's due to iTunes that I avoided iphones in favor of android "back in the day" because I could just slap music and books on my device directly in an era where cellular data was much more limited than it is these days. Couple that with dealing with unstable internet connections probably colored my reluctance to embrace things that needed credentials

    Good Evening! Was curious if anyone had any interesting ideas of what to do with 8GBx25 worth of DDR4 SODIMMS. About half is 2133Mhz and the other half is 2400Mhz, a few 2666Mhz Are there any server boards that can use it? workstations? nifty adapters? I already have maxed out my laptops, thin clients and micro's I have four T7810's and I think 1 T5810 2 of the T7810's have been outfitted with 128GB of RAM each and I have enough to make the third unit 64GB (8GBx8) @Rage Set Might you have any ideas? I know they make adapters to slot them into DIMM slots, no idea if they work with workstations though.

    I'd imagine that it will be a net positive, but may be a bit bumpy due to that one detail. Its not as if Apple is going to redesign their product to account for that.

    I asked cicichen some time ago if he can make a heatsink that is similar to that of the clevo models of the same era but he was firmly adamant about it not being useful. It was a shame since the heatsink did very well otherwise, I ran my 1070 @ 120w @ 54c with maximum fan in the 17 R1 and later traded the GPU+cash for a GTX 1080 that is in my P750FM now. Until then however, I would experience just straight shutdowns until I added copper heatsinks pretty much all over the passive end, trimmed them to be flush with the clam shell and opened up the GPU slot to allow it to breath with a custom laptop cooling pad that most "enthusiasts" tend to go. Never had a problem again in terms of GPU health.

    The MSI 1070 has to deal with a lot of heat around the VRM's since they are packed neatly in a single line. I used to get shutdowns on the 17 R1 until I added some heatsinks to the passive end of the heatsink assembly so it wouldnt surprise me if running them hot for prolonged periods of time would cause what would otherwise be premature failure.

    Im sure there will be some scorn for the USB 2.0 bit and the 15 but from what I understand that is due to the chipset?

    The Ranger 17 R1 and P157SMA are both HM87, different chipset. its only a guess but seems to line up for now.

    It did well for me at the time in my t440p, let me downclock pretty aggressively and get around 10-11 hours out of the t440p when I was actively using it work. From my testing, any QM87 chipset should work. M4800, M6800, E5540, t440p all accepted the chip without issue. Alienware 17 R1, P157SMA both wouldnt post. Need to find someone to send the chip off to repair the pins that broke off, maybe one of those techrepair youtubers.

    They will work, though I think I tested on LVDS variant. You lose the mDP port on the T440p so Im not sure if that will persist since the t440p doesnt have an option where the dGPU is wired to the display. I have one but 3 pins broke off when removing it from the M6800, it was really stuck in there, I still have the 3 pins as well just lack the tools and motivation since it doesnt work in my P157SMA (different chipset).

    Not a laptop, not ideal since memory is what gets roasted, not the GPU. Better to just put in some cash than to mine. Even with a 4090 you'd be mining at a loss, and its no better than a 3090 in that regard.

    I could mine right now since my power is free from 8pm - 6am but it's a lot of hassle. Mining already got me some pc stuff and the 3090 the rest is just sitting until it hits the right value to sell. These are meant to be VM sandboxes since professional development should yield higher returns than mining would. I still have a couple more precision T7810 towers that I could retrofit for mining but I would have to go through and setup schedules and timers to make sure it mines only at the right times, the right coins. I will still do that when winter is in full swing to warm up the house. When it comes to home labs, really anything will do. What I have is overkill at the moment.
