Recently grabbed 3x 12TB myself for Unraid :)

I have recently started building up my wired network for 10Gbps. Just 2x 10Gbps managed network switches with Wireless AP's on each one. My pseudo rack on one end and another in my room. Building a NAS which I hope deploy this weekend, or at least start deploying it. I've got a 3rd switch which has been giving me some issues but once I have that sorted I really want to start building an SCCM/MECM type of lab.

500 USD for a chair, that hurts my feelings a bit. Really need a new one, my 65 USD chair is 3 years past its expiration date...

The Ruckus/Brocade bug bit me just recently when I was looking around for something to push the limits of SCCM/MECM/Virtualization/Random Self-Host stuff. A colleague/friend of mine actually shared that STH link geeking out about the value proposition and low bar of entry into 10G networking with a system that uses most of Cisco's CLI language. I bought 1x ICX 7250 just so I can connect my DD to my pseudo server rack and said rack to the switch all via 10G DAC/10G Base-T SFP. Once I confirmed that the NIC's I had actually work (iirc Intel X520-DA2's), I went to buy my second one. The seller wasnt too happy about my negative review (5 degree bend from the center, crushed Ethernet port 23) so they are telling me to keep the first one I bought and they will send me an extra 7250 for free. For 80 USD its a great entry into the genre. So now I will have 3x ICX 7250's. I already replaced the fans on the first unit and ordered the second set with quieter fans. Switched my TP-Link AX50 Routers to AP mode and will be connected to both switches when they arrive. For a little bit of context, I had been using WiFi since the G days. So essentially switching from WiFi to 10G DAC/10G Base-T/MMR Fiber 10G managed networking.

I agree with your position. Its always only pretty much games that benefit from the larger than norm amounts of cache. This was observed waaaay back in the 5th generation Intel as well as 4980HQ. It was only a couple of reviews that observed the difference in maybe 1-2 titles at the time and declared it an anomaly. Whats more interesting about the 9800X3D is that its finally unlocked vs my 5800X3D which is locked to 4.45Ghz. That all being said its a gaming focused chip. What I would like to see is something akin to mass market products (R3/R5/R7), give the gamers their halo product purely for gaming which gets the word around and the enthusiast halo product to push the limits of potential. This would undoubtedly shoot prices up for the enthusiast products as it would in all likelihood means only one thing, HEDT. -
I think AMD is making progress but they need to fine tune for their target markets. Battery life and hybrid. It seems they are focusing on CPU these days which is not bad but only half the equation that most tend to look at.

Looks like the 9800x3D is the only interesting launch this cycle. The rest appear to be duds from both camps. Told a gamer bud of mine that he needs to jump on it before the price soars past the msrp. I believe he's on a 9700k currently. Been lurking as I've been working 60 hour weeks the only thing I get to do is continue building up my intranet as parts come in (moving from wifi to 10G ethernet/fiber) and maybe 20-30min of a game here or there. -
Brocade ICX 7250-24P Cables to connect to Serial interface 10Gbps 100' RJ45 18dB Replacement fans Likely to buy a second ICX 7250-24P, 2x 10Gbps SFP transceivers. Going to wait until Black Friday to see what kind of storage I can pick up for my virtual hosts.

ivy bridge is as high as an m17x r4 will go right?
Reciever replied to cdoublejj's topic in Alienware 17 and M17x
Correct, if you are looking for a laptop to build into then you would likely be looking at Clevo P870/P775 if you can find one for a reasonable price. -

It looks like my EVGA 1300w G2 gave up the ghost, loud pop and flash. Thankfully though nothing was lost in my PC. Opened an RMA with EVGA and using my SFX 550w PSU to tide me over for a while. -
Brocade icx7250 to replace my Cisco 2960x that I originally meant to build into a ccna lab (and never did). It'll be nice to play with some 10Gbps networking. I have 4 work workstations I use for proxmox that I added 10G cards to some time back. Should also let me play with some other things

Alienware 18 (2014) eDP mod possible?
Reciever replied to Derpmaster69's topic in Alienware 18 and M18x
There was a daring member of NBR who was gathering the materials to try this but IIRC it was not successful. @DaMafiaGamer Here are some links to old conversations from the NBRchive. https://www.nbrchive.net/xfa/alienware-18-and-m18x.1092/[Research] Retrofitting an eDP display to M18x R2/ https://www.nbrchive.net/xfa/hardware-components-and-aftermarket-upgrades.27/LVDS 40 pin to eDP 40 pin converter/ https://www.nbrchive.net/xfa/hardware-components-and-aftermarket-upgrades.27/LVDS to eDP adapter/ -

Repasted the 7900 XTX and the HotSpot did drop 20-22c at lower fan speeds, so its an improvement. I suppose the next step would be to figure out the process to flash the "Unleashed" vBIOS of from the Liquid Devil so I can have more power allocation. Seems to be reliably (for now) hitting 2.8Ghz in 4K Baldurs Gate 3. I would like to be able to hold 3Ghz long term not for anything specific other than 3Ghz sounds better than 2.8Ghz, the added FPS would be nice of course. Its likely there might be pump out, but for now I am ok with that since I already have the paste and tend to do quarterly upkeep on my pc since its open air. Sometimes its dusting, sometimes its a heatsink swap, sometimes its a OS reinstall. Im sure you guys can relate, you pull a thread and its not done until you're done. -
