*Official Benchmark Thread* - Post it here or it didn't happen :D

I would check in your laptops BIOS. DDR3 sodimm memory was painful to overclock, DDR4 became much easier but IIRC still quite manufacturer dependent. -

Nor did I say you were 🙂 Like mentioned before if there were actual violations they would've been corrected, no such actions have been taken because no corrections were needed. At this point it is purely a reminder for anyone to not take advantage of some elements and derail the current discussion. @johnksss everything thus far has been above board 🙂 and I have enjoyed reading your input. -

I'm not saying the topic is banned, just that it's not relevant here and that at any time can be taken to PM. I also have not engaged any moderation to this current discussion, which mean there hasn't been any violations. It is merely at this point a preemptive reminder as the markings for a potential argument looked like it could assemble. Please view this as setting rocks around the campfire and nothing more :) If there was legitimate violations I or @Custom90gt would've likely taken more direct action already, given that we also participate here often. @electrosoft Blue Bell butter crunch and cookies and cream are hands down the two best ice cream flavors bar none. I'm so glad you agree :) -

The issue of Gpu pricing is multi-faceted and unfortunately also involves governments to varying degrees. That being said please do make the attempt to keep politics off the topic list. If certain members wish to continue that discussion please take it to PM. Thanks everyone :) -
Yeah I figured it was just a mix but I needed to switch of synthwave mixes for a bit :)

What have you upgraded on your current laptop(s)?

I liked the t430 as well but I went for the t440p since I had all the parts sitting around the house -

For the MSI 1070 its needed, Zotac or any other MXM 3.0b standard layout its not needed. 8770w is a good machine, didnt tame the heat all that well initially, cant remember the rest of the thread all that well. https://www.nbrchive.net/xfa/hardware-components-and-aftermarket-upgrades.27/GTX 1070 on HP EliteBook 8770W DC - it works!/ -

What's your favorite RSS/Atom feed reader, and why?
Reciever replied to Sandy Bridge's topic in General Software
Embarrassingly, I never knew how to use RSS. Would it be accurate to assume there are some options in android for this? -
A bit of a slow burner but I enjoyed this band below over the years

If the block guaranteed -15c over the competition and had a hello kitty icon to make it work, I bet even @Mr. Fox would rock it until some other product bested it 🙂 -

It's in the nbrchive but iirc the pictures were broken on nbr. I believe DaMafiaGamer might have mentioned something like that but I tend to leave my systems running -

Good Evening ladies and gents, I wanted to poll you guys for differing sub-forums within the Desktop space that you would actively engage within. I know we have the current Benchmark submission thread that has sort of devolved into a generalized hangout albeit with a lot of submissions. Me and @Hiew have been bouncing ideas and one of which is increasing potential viewership via differing means but I feel that you guys have a lot large pool of knowledge that honestly spans the entire spectrum, including laptops of course. I know for instance that you lot have much to offer in your experiences with water cooling, GPU's and OCing them, CPU's and OCing them, RAM and OCing them. Some of you (iirc) like @Custom90gt have some experience with rack builds for specific workloads like Plex while blokes like myself (and others, of course) like to dabble in SFF. I would like to create additional sub-forums for you guys to post within, and considering how you lot post as much or more than all the current laptop sub-forums combined as of now at least I think its something that should be considered. This isnt to mean I want to get rid of the defacto locale that is the benchmark submission thread, everyone wants a place to be able to chill and mingle with peers of similar interests, I too, enjoy it as well. With that in mind, what are some sub-forums that are relevant to desktops that you all would enjoy participating within? Its ok its broad, assuming the forum continues to grow, it can be narrowed over time. Thanks everyone for taking the time and considering this proposition. -Chris

Settled @ 5.0Ghz for now until I can spend the time on the homework. This Taichi 5700 XT is a dog, my PowerColor card did much better but also let me push 2.2Ghz versus the 2050-2080Mhz this one will hold. Though this is also without the additional soft mods. Kind of irritates me, might just throw in the towel and run the RTX 3090, wont be mining for a month or so (for the most part). https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/74682904? My memory is also a dog, though I did originally purchase it with the express desire to run 3200Mhz on a new 2700x so cant always expect a lucky champion to work outside its spec. Have any of you guys ever worked with fans where the blades operate in opposite directions to generate more static pressure? I think LTT mentioned it when unboxing the SuperMicro stuff for building a PB of RAM, been a bit curious about it since then. -
Woops.

Auto-following where you post I believe is a setting you (currently) opt-in into. There are additional settings for notification behavior. It is odd that all your settings were cleared, be sure to let us know if that happens again!

I would look at your notification settings, following threads also is an opt-in setting as well.

I am using the MSI GTX 1080 version, no supplementary power required but requires extensive heatsink modification since the GPU die is located in a nonstandard layout. -
While they may hope it becomes standard, until it is, its not. Dell + Intel = same mentality + "other manufacturers" = those who are likely to be strung along for the ride. I dont personally care either way to be honest but its irritating that Dell wants it both ways. Its not proprietary and also no one else makes it* (*yet, pending potential approval)and hasnt been standardized* (yet, pending potential approval). Dell sadly, has amongst the worst track records for supporting their own designs especially on top dollar items. I hope for the sake of the consumers I am proven incorrect.

Looks like I need to more research overall, I'm not at all comfortable with the bios settings as I had been during first Gen i7 with my golden xeon w3520. For now I am at 5.1Ghz but during load ts reports 1.24-8v when I set 1.35v and then bumps back up after load is lifted. This is at L6, so turns out skipping on homework only gets you so far :P while I appreciate the guidance provided thus far, do you fella's have a good resource for reading up on all the functions in the z490 boards? I was able to bump my ram up from 3200mhz to 3333mhz with no voltage adjustment, 3400 might be possible with voltage. Now before @Mr. Fox perks a brow I put my 32GB in place of the 16gb that originally came with the bundle. No testing yet for the 5700xt -

Yeah its all so very foreign to me, haven't touched desktop overclocking in any real sense since maybe 2nd Gen Intel. My amd chip basically let me drop in 4.2ghz and never needed to look much deeper, since that was the cieling for zen+ anyways. Trying the static approach now using ts as a quick and dirty bench before looking at other tests. Got the ram working correctly too, had them in bay 0/2 instead of 1/3. Looking at some guides for the board and hopefully figure out the details. Gonna shoot for a 1.385 and see if it plays nice. Pretty happy the D15S is letting it flex, 250w and it's handling it well
