this looks rather interesting, might have to try it out myself. I usually arrange my icons around the outer edge to try and make it at least look somewhat even but this is certainly a cleaner solution. Did you make the exe yourself or is it some other program available online?

ah good to know, yeah in 10 it was off by default so up until now i never had issues lol (LTSC that is, not sure about home or pro)
-
yeah the numbers dont lie for sure, i guess since i dont go heavy into benchmarking and mostly use my machine as a multi media/gaming machine i havent noticed too much. ideally if microsoft didnt put roadblocks in the way in regards to locking off certain games to higher versions of 10/11 i would just go back to windows 7 and have done with it. once all the games i play which have anti cheat are working with linux ill switch to that

The one major flaw i had with it so far has been right after upgrading. Since 11 by default turns on Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling, which on my modded m18x r2 resulted in a dxgmms1.sys BSOD everytime a graphically intense app was opened (heaven for example). Aside from that, from my personal usage i havent seen too much of a difference, only time will tell tho.

@Mr. Fox decided to test out windows 11 enterprise. windows borders aside, with StartAllBack it doesnt look too bad (at least in my opinion):

Just thought id make this post as abit of a heads up for anyone wanting to run win11 on the old m18x r2. I upgraded from LTSC to standard enterprise to test out and whatever graphical app or game i tried to run resulted in a dxgmms1.sys BSOD (was repeatable with the epic games launcher and heaven benchmark). Turns out this is due to a setting called Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling, which is on by default in windows 11 but not 10. Once this is turned off everything runs perfectly fine, ive attached some screenshots of where the setting is: Hopefully this helps others, im assuming this isnt just exclusive to the enterprise edition but also affects other editions too.

Quadro P3000 & P4000 unlocked/OC vbios
Azther replied to TheQuentincc's topic in Components & Upgrades
would be nice to unlock my P4000, however im hesitant to flash it. would be nice to get some confirmation as to whether it would work on any machine or not -
would be amazing if someone was able to get modern gpus to work in the r1, would be a nice alternative to the r2. Anyone tried soldering a bios rom chip from a broken r2 board into an r1 i wonder? or would that not work. Reason im thinking that is due to how the r1 cant be flashed with the r2 bios due to size constraints, but this is outside my knowledge so apologies if it sounds dumb
-
yeah mine goes to about 86c (hot weather peak, usually 83c or so) now since i went dual heatpipe with kryonaut extreme thermal paste. used to be higher with single pipe

sorry to bring up an old post but figured you and @Reciever would like to know this if you dont already know, pso2 works on steam deck with proton-ge 29, which is the newest update as of 7th august. So with this pso2 should now in theory work under whatever flavour of linux you like as long as the necessary dependencies are installed. Just found out this info today lol

I went with a single 780m in my r1, due to others online stating that anything above a 8 series wouldnt work due to the frankenstein bios the m18x r1 has. Would be nice to know if a higher gpu can somehow be forced to work via optimus but i would assume someone would of tried that by now

I should of been more clearer in my response to alder, but that was still the V2 of the adapter, i just hadnt gotten around to testing it out in the field until recently. The new adapter might have fixed the issue entirely but im personally not gonna buy one since the drain is so little anyways. Sorry if i caused any confusion in that regard

For anyone interested, i recently went on holiday and took the ole m18x with me. I had it turned off for 9 hours and the battery had drained by 11%, so for me its definitely a non issue and the battery wasnt warm either @aldarxt Edit: This is for the V2 of the Adapter, cant speak for the new V3 revision

this actually jogged my memory of an issue i had when upgrading my m18x r1 (going from faulty 580m to a single 780m) and the screen was showing up green and pink glitchy colors on first rebuild. Turns out the screen connector was dirty, used some compressed air and plugged it back in and voila it was perfectly fine. funny how sometimes the simple things that people might overlook turn out to be the solutions lol
-
only thing i can think of that might fix ur issue is to unplug both the laptop battery and cmos battery, but get a flat head screwdriver to bridge the 2 pins on the cmos battery connector to make sure everything is drained completely. After that try holding fn while powering on and it should boot into diagnostics mode, from there you should be able to enter bios and everything will be back to default values
-
Can confirm windows update wasnt the issue, just ran it and its fully up to date and control panel opens normally, how bizarre lol
-
thats strange, kinda makes me hesitant to do windows update in all honesty lol. Maybe i should follow @Mr. Fox example
-
yeah its turned off by default so i just left it alone, was just surprised to see it there. Good to know tho for future reference
-
I did notice something different regarding this driver too, that ECC State option. Could of sworn that wasnt there with my 511 drivers.
-
yeah ive never had that issue, im guessing either a combination of the chris titus tweaks or a bad windows update/multiple inplace upgrades might of broken something in my case. im just gonna run the system vanilla with GPO tweaks in place for now to see how things go (well vanilla in terms of updates/tweaks, still have it looking like vista currently)
-
After doing a complete fresh install everything is working perfectly now, even with the latest 516.25 DCH quadro driver. Now im hesitant to run windows update lol
-
its my frankenstein m18x R2 with the quadro p4000, the same installation has been thru a couple inplace upgrades over time and some chris titus tweaking. its also kept up to date via windows update (including the optional preview updates), which may have caused some fuckery to occur. the driver im using is 511.79 DCH, i did try to DDU and update to the current 516.25 DCH driver but thats when BSOD started occuring when opening the Epic launcher or heaven benchmark. The newer driver also had the non opening control panel issue
-
well ive solved the BSOD issue, i restored my system with a backup image. control panel still doesnt open but least the system is running fine now, when i can be bothered ill use one of my other laptops to make a preconfigured 2019 image i can deploy to multiple systems. that way i can choose to either use LTSC 2019 or upgrade to 2021
-
now discovered another issue, heaven benchmark causes dxgmms1.sys BSOD >.> should of stayed on LTSC 2019 lol
-
just tried that, in task manager Nvidia control panel shows up but closes a few seconds after. i thought windows blinds or the chris titus tweaks were at fault but at this point im at a loss.
