On the 7560 with the RTX 3080 I ran the 3DMark demo through steam. it gave a result of 8965 The dell power was set to optimized. I then changed the Dell power setting to Ultra Performance and the score is 8894. System has Dell 7560 | Xeon W-11955M | 64GB, 2x32GB, 3200MHz, ECC | RTX 3080 | Micron 2TB 3400 in Gen4 Slot Nvidia Driver is Dell 472.88 No dock or external monitor hooked up. Are these good results? I have not tried it on my 7760 and the other 7560 both with RTX A5000. EDIT: Just ran 3D Mark on my 7760 with RTX A5000 and score is 9718. Edit 2: The 3D Mark Test is Time Spy using the Steam 3D Mark Demo.

On the 7560 that came with 1.8.0 and RTX 3080, I did find Dynamic Boost listed in the Nvidia Control Panel under Help / System Information. Under details it notes Dynamic Boost 2.0 Yes where on my 7760 with 1.7.0 it says No. On the 7560 there is no option to toggle Dynamic Boost on or off under the Global Presets. I saw that option on a youtube video and that is where I looked first. Both systems running dell driver 472.88.

I am setting up a new 7560 and it has on it Bios 1.8.0. Ordered 2/7/22 and shipped on 3/2/22 This system has: Dell 7560 | Xeon W-11955M | 64GB, 2x32GB, 3200MHz, ECC | RTX 3080 | 15.6" IPS UHD IR Cam | Boot Drive PCIe 4.0 Slot: 2TB Micron 3400 (OEM Drive came with system) My other 7760 and 7560 came with the Samsung PM9A1 2TB Edit 1: On the Dell Support page for this system, under System specs that lists the components that shipped, it shows the system shipped with the Samsung PM9A1 but it did not. It has the Micron 3400 with the current firmware. I am surprised the specs does not match what was actually shipped. Edit 2: In Crystal Disk Info, on my 7760 and other 7560 with AHCI it notes: Transfer mode: "PCIe 4.0 x4 | PCIe 4.0 x4" Standard" "NVM Express 1.3" On the new 7560 with RAID On (I did not switch yet) it notes Transfer mode: "----- | -----" Standard" "NVM Express 1.4" Is the difference because of AHCI and RAID On for the Transfer Mode? or the SSD or the newer dell Bios 1.8.0? What is the difference between NVM Express 1.3 and 1.4? Looking online, the PM9A1 is Standard 1.3c. I guess the Micron is Standard 1.4. And these are SSD related specs and not due to the 7560. Edit 3: In Crystal Disk Info, the Gen4 SSD on my 7760 idles at around 48 degrees when doing nothing. On the 7560 looks to go down to 35 degrees. Edit 4: Bit Locker is not turned on by default on this one after setup out of the box (dell image on the drive). It was on my 7760 and other 7560. Edit 5: The new 7560 with Windows setup but no additional apps installed the SSD temp idles at 25 degrees. I let my 7760 idle, with same power management settings but also turned off Wifi so no internet connection and SSD idles at 48 degrees. The 7760 is on bios 1.7.0 and the new 7560 is on bios 1.8.0 (not on dell site yet). I am not sure if the temp difference is the difference between the physical SSD (Samsung PM9A1 vs the Micron 3400 in the 7560), the bios, or something else. But it is a bid difference. Also, the two Samsung 970 EVO drives I have in the Gen 3 slots on the 7760 haver at 39 degrees. Edit 6: 3/9/22 The Micron 3400 in the new 7560 runs cooler than the PM9A1 in my 7760 and other 7560. The Micron 3400 will idle at 25 degrees C where in the 7760 the PM9A1 lowest would be 48 Degrees C. I did a Crystal Dismark Test (5 passes 1GB) and the Micron did jump to 68 Degrees C and the PM9A1 jumped to 74 degrees. I am not sure if the difference is the physical drive, the 7560 is on bios 1.8.0 and 7760 is 1.7.0 or the 7560 I am still on RAID On and the 7760 I previously switch to AHCI. My guess is it is the physical drive that is the difference and the Micron 3400 just runs cooler than the Samsung PM9A1.

Do you have RAID On or AHCI? I would not think it would make a difference on hibernate, but last night I was searching the difference of using AHCI or RAID On. I recall a post (I forget where) that mentioned it could impact hibernation. On my 7760 early on after setup I switch to AHCI. I never use hibernate so cannot comment if it works or not. With regard to AHCI and RAIN On. I am still wondering on these newer Dell machines, is it better to leave it on the default RAID On. I read another post that AHCI could impact battery life. Not sure if that is true or not. On my 7760 with AHCI I am lucky if I get 3 hours. On another users 7560 I setup I believe I switch to AHCI also he says he can get 8 hours on that. Specs of the 7560 and 7760 are the same. So my guess is AHCI vs RAID On does not impact battery life. The battery life between the 7760 and 7560 is just the 7760 uses more power. Now I have been running in AHCI for a while, is switching back to RAID On same process and should not be an issue even after running in AHCI for a while? I have added two additional Samsung 970 Pro some time after switching to AHCI will switching to RAID On impact these drives? Does anyone know if the Samsung Magician works with RAID On?

introduction 7760 and OEM Samsung PM9A1 2TB

I am still using the old drive and have not swapped it out yet. Yesterday I turned off bitlocker and it decrypted the drive fine in 20 minutes. Been using the system an see no issues. I will eventually swap it out, but have not been in a rush. I am making daily images in case and shutdown dropbox when not using the system to make sure nothing syncs if an issue happens when I am not using the system.- 4 replies

introduction 7760 and OEM Samsung PM9A1 2TB
Rinconmike replied to Rinconmike's topic in Pro Max & Precision Mobile Workstation
Thanks. I did ask dell pro support about the disappearing drive issue and they stated that they have nothing in their records on it. Both the rep on the case (Senior Technician, Technical Support) and another rep the initial rep reached out to that has a title of Technical Support Engineer 2. One thing i have not tried is to turn off bitlock to decrypt the drive and see if I get the same issue. I will do that before I replace to drive if I go that route.- 4 replies

Here is an issue I have experienced with the Samsung P9A1 2TB on a 7760 and need to decide to replace it or not. My concern on removing the PM9A1 on the Gen4 slot is wind up having the disappearing drive issue and need to look at @Aaron44126 fix. Long explanation. I have a 7760 with the OEM Samsung PM9A1 SSD 2TB in the Gen4 slot. Last month (around 1/22/22) I ran the Dell firmware update recommended by Dell Command Update (from 7129 to 8129). I was not experiencing any issues but the update showed up on the Dell Command Update so I ran it. Back in December I previously updated to the 7219 and did not see any issues. The 8129 fix noted is: "- Improved the solid state drive data management to prevent data integrity issues." The system is booting UEFI. I did suspended bitlocker before running the update although the installation directions did not require it like a bios update does. The update reported it was successful and did not ask to reboot. I rebooted and on this first boot the drive was not seen by the system. I rebooted again and the drive was found and booted fine. After the update I confirmed in Device Manager, under SSD Properties, Device Hardware ID that the updated firmware was listed. In windows both Crystal Disk Info and HD Sentinel report the drive is healthy and no issues found. I then ran the Dell Boot Diagnostics and the drive failed the short test (noted Short self-test unsuccessful, error code 2000-0142). I ran it several times and same error each time. I did not run the Dell Diag before I did the firmware update so I do not know if this error would have happened before the update.. Although the drive failed the Dell short test, when in windows, I did not see any issues. Both Crystal Disk Info and HD Sentinel report the drive is healthy. The only issue at the time was the Dell short test fails. As part of trouble shooting, this drive I had bit locker enabled and I decided to turn it off. I started the bit locker decryption process and it got stuck at 77.7%. I spent a day trying to figure it out. With bitlocker stuck, the computer was essentially frozen. I could move the mouse and if I tried to open explorer it would open after around 10 minutes. I eventually figured out that after a force power off and reboot, I could quickly go into command prompt, run "manage-bde -pause C:" and it would pause the bitlocker process. Trying a resume bitlocker did not work and the system would lock up. All my data files are in Dropbox. I unlinked DB to prevent synching to DB. Unlinking did not solve the bitlocker issue. I then deleted all my DB files (around 500GB). Once the files were deleted, I resumed bitlocker and the decryption continued and then finished. The drive was now fully decrypted. Note I use smart synch with DB so although I had 500Gb on the drive, there were many files where it is not the complete file, just a place holder (it is how DB works). I then rebooted the system and ran the Dell Diag and now all tests pass. No failure on the short drive test. I rebooted around a dozen times and ran both the short and thorough tests and no issues found. Both Crystal Disk Info a HD Sentinel find no issues. I also ran chkdsk /f and also chkdsk /r and no bad sectors found. I also ran sfc /scannow and no issues found. I think I ran the chkdsk and sfc/scannow also before I got the decryption to work (with bitlocker paused) and no issues were found then either. I then turned bitlocker back on. I did a full drive encryption and not just no used space. Took around an hour to finish. I installed DB with selective synch and starting to fully synch some files. Also while troubleshooting I did downgrade the firmware to 7129 and then back to 8129 (I forget at what point I did this, I think before I got bitlocker to work). I did the over 2 to 3 days (1/22 to 1/24). Now 2/20/22. I still have the Samsung Drive in the system. Dell did send me a replacement since they are not sure if it is a faulty drive or not. However, I have been hesitant to change it due to the disappearing drive issue. If I do replace it, I will use Acronis to mirror the drive. I am making daily Acronis backups now. Along with monitoring the drive with Crystal and HD Sentinel, I have run the Boot Diagnostics 2 to 4 times a week and also ran the supportassist diag a few times (installed and then uninstalled supportassist) and no drive errors. So the question is, can I assume there are no issues with the drive and the issue was that something got corrupted with the firmware update or the firmware update corrupted something with bitlocker and once I successfully turned off bitlocker the issues is resolved? Strange that I had to delete files to get bitlocker to finish. Or is this indeed a hardware issue that may come up again and I am best to replace the drive? Anyone successfully change the OEM drive in the Gen4 slot and not have the disappearing drive issue? That is my concern with changing the drive. Also thanks to @Aaron44126 who helped with when I was troubleshooting the issue. Thanks, Mike

So I am about to pull the trigger on a second 7560. The first one I got (ordered July 2021 delivered Sep 2021) was with an RTX A5000 for user that will use cad. Right now he is playing more games than using cad and said it performs good on most games. When we ordered, the RTX 3080 was not available (or I did not know about it). The one I am looking at now is for a user who will not use cad but play games so for this, I am looking at the RTX 3080. The 3080 also comes with the 16GB of memory. So the system will be the same specs as the 7560 in my sig, but come with the RTX 3080. I decided to go with the Xeon and 64GB ECC Memory. Any downside of the Xeon and ECC with games?
