Seeking recommendations on a new laptop!
kojack replied to wardnine's topic in What Laptop Should I Buy?
You, and many other miss the point. AMD throttles EVERYTHING. CPU, GPU, ram, SSD, etc. Intel does not....hence the speeds are same on ac or dc. AMD does this to try to get battery life near what intel does. This is the only way they can do it. It's not thermal throttling like my notebook does. I have read plenty about this. Its you, obviously who did not. You didn't even read the information on the graph that was put up. Only pull a "note" from some place showing something or other without any evidence. -

If you want performance on battery, run, very fast away from AMD. They throttle the entire pc to try to get as good battery life as an intel based system. That means they reduce speeds of SSD, Memory, GPU and CPU. If you unplug an intel system, you only get performance throttling from overheating, if it throttles at all. So, that may be a consideration to look at as well. Here is a graph showing pluged in (AC) performance (both systems are so close in performance you would not see a difference), then, it shows unplugged performance on battery (DC). The AMD falls flat on its face where the intel keeps it full power on battery. -
Finally. Microsoft incorporates iOS into phone link.

Been using Phone Link constantly since I have connected it. It works awesome. As I mentioned before, I don't care about transferring files, photos etc as I am full Microsoft on my mobile devices anyways. But, being about to message from my PC's is a great time saver, and it works awesome. My phone is on charge in my office, and my notebook, which I am typing on right now is in our family room and I can message using my phone from here. Wonderful! -

I am not sure on DEX. But for phone link, remove your computer and phone from each other's Bluetooth, turn off both Bluetooth adapters for a min, turn both back on then pair via the phone link app. Worked for me on both systems. -
No, My last ipad was a 6th gen. So a 9th gen with a slightly slower processor ha ha. The 10th gen is a great iPad. It's a slippery devil though so a case is a must. I bought the Logitech keyboard for it as well. Makes it a better productivity tool, but does not hold a candle in any way to my windows systems. I recommend one though for content consumption and basic use.

Got it figured out. Had to forget the devices in Bluetooth settings. It works great now. -
Just getting ready to setup our new Home Theater in our recroom. 100" motorized screen, my good ole Sanyo PLV-Z1 projector that puts out HD video content with a great brightness level, I am ordering a new pioneer Elite receiver to control all my devices and put out clean power. We have PSB speakers all around to provide crystal clear sound to go with the great video. Is it 4k? NOPE, do we care? Not in the least. We have a theater like experience in our home. The actual theater in town only has 1080 p video processing and no one seems to care. Behind the screen, when it is up is our 55" Samsung tv I have owned for years. It works awesome, has a great picture, and again, its only 1080p. 4k is extremely overrated.

Thanks for the clarification. that will be awesome. -
That would make sense since if it's not turing on the fans while rendering it would go into overheat protection.

I have the option for the iPhone on Microsoft phone link now, but my phone and PC both hang at connecting via Bluetooth. Anyone have any options to get this to push past this part? -
A few years ago my husky stepped on my 5368 notebook and screwed up the screen, so I bought my 5406 to replace it. Fast forward to today, I was sitting drinking coffee a few weeks ago and dropped my new system and cracked the bottom case. I ordered a new screen for the old system to refurbish for my son. I have 16gb of ram and a 512gb ssd waiting to install into it. I will hack win 11 onto it and it should get him through a few years more. My system just need the new base plate to be back to new. Can't wait to get these parts now and get the systems up and running. I am going to try to get the play store installed on my son's older machine too. With 16gb of ram it should run no issue.

Ok, I am getting ready to order my PCI-E SSD expansion card for my OS drive. My AC100 has PCI-Ex8. The card I am looking at is PCI-Ex4. Will these work together? -
Dell XPS 8940 PSU upgrade? Anyone have any thoughts on this setup?

I checked on the big store in the sky, and the PSU is 337. The connector cable is 23.99. That could be just what I am looking for to upgrade my GPU! -

6800xt it is. I have the 2070 super in there now. I am thinking of moving to Radeon for a card so I can run macOS when I want. I cannot hackintosh my dell on a dual boot now because of the card. 6800 is the highest performing card that is officially working with macos. I will think about this some more and see which direction I will go. -
I was doing some reading and found this power supply and converter cord for my XPS. Think it would work? The PSU unit. TX700 Gold (silverstonetek.com) The converter cable Amazon.com: COMeap 24 Pin to 6 Pin ATX PSU Power Adapter Cable for Dell Motherboard with 6 Pin Port 13.3-inch(34cm) : Electronics It's the same size, and I am thinking about putting a newer video card in to be able to run macOS hack. I am planning on using either the 6800 xt or 7900 xtx if there is opencore drivers available for it.

Bought this last weekend for my iPad. It's really good. Makes the iPad more versatile for what I want to use it for. Logitech Combo Touch for iPad

You need to follow the 3 beer rule. Drink 3 beer in a short amount of time, you will be deadly at darts, pool, horseshoes, cornhole etc. It turns off the thinker and you just get up and nail it. I have yet to play darts pool etc high, so I cannot comment on that yet. ha ha. Also, I am going to be building my board cabinet. Using the Montreal Canadiens logo as the center piece. ..that and my Carey price and Max Patchoretty signed jerseys. Met them at brossard. signed our jerseys for us!

ONE HUNDRED AND EEEEEEIIIIIIIIGGGGGHHHHHTTTTTYYYYY! Love it. I am putting up my dart board when we finish our basement repair/reno. We had a sewer back up a few months ago, and are just getting around to fixing it all up. Going to get our home gym, music room, bar, lounging / home theater area, and kitchen all back soon!

Oh, my car handled too. ha ha. During the first two seasons of targa Newfoundland I helped Subaru Canada tune their cars for the race here on the island. I knew the course, the conditions, and knew the settings etc needed to put in the cars. At that time I had my twin turbo'ed 2002 legacy GT B4 RSK. She' was fun too. 400hp of AWD goodness.

Hey I'm sure etern4l is an awesome dude. But all this doom and gllom is a bit much.

Because there was nothing offensive, and more than likely true. Context! 😉

Ha ha. Enjoy your rabbit hole of conspiracy theories. You would think the pot head would be into that. Alas, I'm in reality not constantly sitting at my screen consuming at an alarming rate. Peace.

Too funny. I owned an 83 RX7. It's a very easy swap for a 5.0 from a mustang. You only have to rotate the front subframe 180 and even the motor mounts fit...I sold it before I could find another 5.0. I had one but someone asked me to sell it to put into their zephyr wagon.
