I use TransulcentTB and Power start menu from the MS store. TB does exactly what it says, makes the taskbar translucent and give a nice modern look. Power start menu removes recommended section from the start menu so you can just have your apps tiled like it should be, and makes the start menu very aeroglass...ey in looks. It's awesome. I have no desire to go back to old looking windows 10 look. Windows 11 is faster, better looking and more enjoyable to use.

You need to be a starlink home customer to get the mini dish added on. Then it's not unlimited use. I would rather just buy a second dish, and take your home router with you.

See the /s at the end of the comment indicating sarcasm. Apple users think their devices are magical impenetrable devices. I know better.

Yes, the CEO of crowdstrike. Microsoft had nothing to do with this. I love the internet. It's great for spreading BS. CS affected linux as well. Apple no, because we all know apple doesn't need any protection /s.

Can a tablet replace an office laptop ? My journey.
kojack replied to Bullit's topic in Mobile Devices & Gadgets
Get the snapdragon base model surface. It does all of that, it has an awesome screen which maxes out at 890 nits. fine for daylight viewing, it has a user upgradable ssd with no tool access to the drive (magnetic door) and one screw to swap drives. and yes windows wakes up just by touching it. either the fingerprint sensor, open the device and windows hello just opens your device for you. I have owned a couple of surfii in the past and the weight is not noticeable in your backpack. My ipad 10th gen with Logitech keyboard is way heavier. -
Yes agreed the forum won't be going anywhere. Most here are into gaming and benchmarking. I bring the creative side of the platform. I use my devices for creating videography, photography, Graphics and podcasts. I don't game, and I sure as hell don't overclock and benchmark the crap out of my systems. I use mine to make money. I think I bring that view to the forum here. Right now, my lowly Dell Inspiron 5406 chews threw my 1080p video / podcast work with relative ease and it also does all my photo editing including denoise, upscaling etc very very quickly. It also comes down to what software you use. But thats where I am in the notebook side of things. This place has a variety of people with interests separate from the others which makes a great place to learn and gain knowledge. Not just about notebooks, but computing in general.

Acer AC100 mini server upgrade/mods. Should be interesting
kojack replied to kojack's topic in Desktop Hardware
I have some parts ordered. The two bay NVME enclosure a 512gb for OS, a 4tb nvme for project use and 3x32tb exos hdd from segate. Where the path is only so fast using the dual nvme enclosure raid is not needed for any speed increase. I will get better performance working from the server with a 4tb ssd for project use. We will see how TrueNAS handles the drives in this fashion. I can't see it being an issue now since all drives will be going through the sata ports in the hot swaps. Buckle up, this is about get bumpy ha ha ha!. Then on to getting it access to our wifi network in the house. Since we are using bell, that might be a whole other ball of wax to fix. -
I am looking at getting new laptops for the wife and I. I am looking seriously at getting asus systems for us instead of our current dell systems. I want to know how Asus systems have been holding up for the past few years. I had issues with them previously and swore I would never buy again because of their lack of warranty commitment. Fast forward to today, and they are one of the only brands that I like for their designs, price and options.

What phone are you daily driving currently?
kojack replied to Katja's topic in Mobile Devices & Gadgets
Bullett, Pixel 8a should do will for you, or if you want to spend even less a Moto G stylus would be a good choice as well. Both those phones are easily read in sunlight. Hell, my cheap ole moto 5g is brighter than my iPhone 13 was. -
Ridin' a cloud of great BC dancehall from Coast Mountain Cannabis....Listening to this awesome cover.....

Presidents choice Canadian blend coffee...stright up like everything I drink. Or, used to at this point. Ha.

Fast forward over a year. My wife and I are using our Pixel 8 pro's for 6 months now and they are better than we even thought. As a creative, the camera system in them are second to none. The images we got from our son's graduation were fantastic and much better than the ones my brother took with his Canon T3. The overall performance of the phone using the MS launcher is perfect as well. Even the wife, who is a diehard apple fan, loves hers. We can't see us going back to apple anytime soon. Moreso now with their amazing security (sarcasm). -
what would be the best year to be born if you had to choose.?

I agree, but the rest of the hippie movement was nowhere to be found then. ha ha! I am a flower child at heart even though I was born 10 years after the start of it. -

I am going with those to create extra space but still have fast data access becuase of the ssd instead of the hdd setup. So one drive bay would essentially house two ssd in raid 0 to have faster os speeds, then the other 3 bays will have other storage options. I have since found 32tb hdds and may toss 3 of those in instead of the small dual drive enclosures -
Just stumbled upon this thread. Starlink is now the best option, but Amazon is coming in hot with project Kuiper as well. I am sort of sitting on the fence of jumping in with starlink now for our mobile internet/home internet use, and throttle back our mobile data plans to 34 dollar public mobile Can/Us plans. That way, we can be connected to starlink while driving and not have any dead zones at all, and then use wifi hotspots and the 50gb data each on our phones when away from the jeep/house/camper. the price we are paying for our cell phone package now will completely offset the mobile starlink package/new phone plans/ and all hardware for starlink in 2 months. ha ha.

The TV thing didn't work out like I thought it would. I am still running my two dell 24" touchscreens, and the wife is using her 24" HP monitor. We have had alot of changes in our lives since I got sick and we are pushing to get our stuff up and running now. We know time is short on this trip so we are taking our oldest son's bedroom, living room, storage closet and turning it into our media center. This area of our home is approx. 500sq ft. I am moving my editing / Writing setup into the bedroom and running two alogic 27 inch touchscreens to replace the 24 in dells. The living room is going to become the recording/podcasting center with round table capabilities and more. The closet is the printing/scanning/product area for us. Upstairs in the wife's office, she will be running at single Alogic display. I have the tv i was trying up on our wall to replace our old LG that started getting dark spots all over it. So it wasn't a waste of money ha ha.

1950. you would 17 in 67 prime age for the entire movement. Damn. I need a time machine. -
I did my 3 dells today. The bios update made them all much faster. I think the previous one screwed alot of things up. My system is now quiet, fast, and has better battery life. Went from 4.5 to over 9 hrs. The previous bios upgrade screwed everything in the system.

So, I am going to go a new route with this system now. I am going to buy 2 of these dual raid SSD enclosures. Startech.Com 2X M.2 SSDs to 2.5-Inch SATA (6Gbps) Raid Adapter Converter with Trim Support 25S22M2NGFFR : Amazon.ca: Electronics and load 4 drives into them to see if the OS will see the first enclosure in raid 0 for OS. Then if the second one will be views as two separate drives. I will put 6 drives in 3 drive bays, and one with two smaller ones with OS loaded and remove the PCI-e drive. -
