I am looking at getting new laptops for the wife and I. I am looking seriously at getting asus systems for us instead of our current dell systems. I want to know how Asus systems have been holding up for the past few years. I had issues with them previously and swore I would never buy again because of their lack of warranty commitment. Fast forward to today, and they are one of the only brands that I like for their designs, price and options.

What phone are you daily driving currently?
kojack replied to Katja's topic in Mobile Devices & Gadgets
Bullett, Pixel 8a should do will for you, or if you want to spend even less a Moto G stylus would be a good choice as well. Both those phones are easily read in sunlight. Hell, my cheap ole moto 5g is brighter than my iPhone 13 was. -
Ridin' a cloud of great BC dancehall from Coast Mountain Cannabis....Listening to this awesome cover.....

Presidents choice Canadian blend coffee...stright up like everything I drink. Or, used to at this point. Ha.

Fast forward over a year. My wife and I are using our Pixel 8 pro's for 6 months now and they are better than we even thought. As a creative, the camera system in them are second to none. The images we got from our son's graduation were fantastic and much better than the ones my brother took with his Canon T3. The overall performance of the phone using the MS launcher is perfect as well. Even the wife, who is a diehard apple fan, loves hers. We can't see us going back to apple anytime soon. Moreso now with their amazing security (sarcasm). -
what would be the best year to be born if you had to choose.?

I agree, but the rest of the hippie movement was nowhere to be found then. ha ha! I am a flower child at heart even though I was born 10 years after the start of it. -
Acer AC100 mini server upgrade/mods. Should be interesting

I am going with those to create extra space but still have fast data access becuase of the ssd instead of the hdd setup. So one drive bay would essentially house two ssd in raid 0 to have faster os speeds, then the other 3 bays will have other storage options. I have since found 32tb hdds and may toss 3 of those in instead of the small dual drive enclosures -
Just stumbled upon this thread. Starlink is now the best option, but Amazon is coming in hot with project Kuiper as well. I am sort of sitting on the fence of jumping in with starlink now for our mobile internet/home internet use, and throttle back our mobile data plans to 34 dollar public mobile Can/Us plans. That way, we can be connected to starlink while driving and not have any dead zones at all, and then use wifi hotspots and the 50gb data each on our phones when away from the jeep/house/camper. the price we are paying for our cell phone package now will completely offset the mobile starlink package/new phone plans/ and all hardware for starlink in 2 months. ha ha.

The TV thing didn't work out like I thought it would. I am still running my two dell 24" touchscreens, and the wife is using her 24" HP monitor. We have had alot of changes in our lives since I got sick and we are pushing to get our stuff up and running now. We know time is short on this trip so we are taking our oldest son's bedroom, living room, storage closet and turning it into our media center. This area of our home is approx. 500sq ft. I am moving my editing / Writing setup into the bedroom and running two alogic 27 inch touchscreens to replace the 24 in dells. The living room is going to become the recording/podcasting center with round table capabilities and more. The closet is the printing/scanning/product area for us. Upstairs in the wife's office, she will be running at single Alogic display. I have the tv i was trying up on our wall to replace our old LG that started getting dark spots all over it. So it wasn't a waste of money ha ha.

1950. you would 17 in 67 prime age for the entire movement. Damn. I need a time machine. -
I did my 3 dells today. The bios update made them all much faster. I think the previous one screwed alot of things up. My system is now quiet, fast, and has better battery life. Went from 4.5 to over 9 hrs. The previous bios upgrade screwed everything in the system.

So, I am going to go a new route with this system now. I am going to buy 2 of these dual raid SSD enclosures. Startech.Com 2X M.2 SSDs to 2.5-Inch SATA (6Gbps) Raid Adapter Converter with Trim Support 25S22M2NGFFR : Amazon.ca: Electronics and load 4 drives into them to see if the OS will see the first enclosure in raid 0 for OS. Then if the second one will be views as two separate drives. I will put 6 drives in 3 drive bays, and one with two smaller ones with OS loaded and remove the PCI-e drive. -

Wow, the apple fans in this thread's arguments didn't age well. iOS 17.5 Bug May Also Resurface Deleted Photos on Wiped, Sold Devices [Updated] - MacRumors 🤦♂️ As I stated MANY MANY MANY times before. Apple privacy and security is all a marketing scam. They are no more secure, and most times less secure than others. People can keep drinking the koolaid but we have moved on to better things. Our pixels are great still! -
That's great. Enjoy the new chapter in your life. We are working hard on getting our own stuff up and running, plus home renovations so hopefully by next year this time we can just say EFF it to being employed by others and move to completely home/remote based self employment. We can travel then when we want, how we want and not be on an employer schedule telling us when we can or cant go somewhere.

Thanks for the response. I am thinking you are correct in stating the bios does not support boot from PCIe. should I just install the os on the raid array? Now I have to figure out how large a drive will be supported. I am pushing forward with this one to remove cloud photo storage after the shenanigans with apples "privacy first" approach to data storage. bah ha ha. -
That's how it usually goes. Larger companies lay off entire teams responsible for the inner workings in the name of greedy stakeholders. Something screws up and said team no longer fixes said problem. Said team goes and gets hired by a better company who actually cares about their employees. Said team has a much better life as a result. I keep telling MrsKojack this. She works for the government and every few years there's rumblings about layoffs. I tell her it's the best thing that will ever happen to you. Sandy....did you find a better employer after?

I agree. I have had to change my soap etc to all natural versions. But yes. Alot of gluten free things still contain trace amounts of wheat. Under the guidelines for the Celiac organization of Canada, You can have a certain amount and be labeled gluten free.

What a great thread. We are re arranging our house now. Turning my current office into a library / reading room. Taking my oldest's bedroom/living room/walk in closet and converting it into a media creation room for our new videos, podcast and more, putting my office out there for editing and writing, and making the closet into a printing, business supplies storage and equipment room. We were into chapters this weekend and picked out about 50 books to start our collection in the library. Even the smell of books are great. I am glad there are more in here interested in actual books than reading off the screen all the time. Our library is going to be a dark and moody design with nice lighting, a rug, table with 2 comfortable chairs and a built in seat to fit two other people in the book shelf unit. that way we can have a board game night in there too with our family.

Just ordered two of these for MrsKojack and myself. Our current ones are Wore TF out! Lots of use from the past two years. The new models have replaceable everything. Anything wears out, order the new part and away we go. Along with my Medical Cannabis card, these are going to be great! I tried my first haul of medical grade and it's AWESOME! No more pain in my neck, knee, the brain goes in the correct gear and is happy all the time too. POTV XMAX Starry V4 Vaporizer | Free Shipping - Planet of the Vapes (Canada)

How can I back track bios updates? I have tried everything else you mentioned. Edit: I just looked in task manager my CPU is being used between 8-24% off and on. Nothing to cause the fans to be hitting hard. I use this system daily and never had fans going unless I was doing a video edit encode etc.
