I will wait for the pricing information - for now very happy with what Raptor Lake can do. Just to state the obvious: the above is not HEDT in the 10980XE sense. 10980XE was something in between consumer and Xeon - much less memory supported, no ECC, and only 1S (to mention the basic differences).

It’s gonna be expensive, I know that! Probably $1,000-$3,000 dollar processors and $600-$1,800 dollar motherboards lol.

Yeah, probably - especially if we are talking about some decent SKUs. That's going to be a very niche product competing in a market kind of crowded out by the Great AMD Chiplet Swarm.

I mean, it would be awesome to see something like that. Imagine a 13980XE only with Octa channel DDR5 and 32 P-Cores and 64 E-Cores that would be insanely powerful!!! 😎

People pick on the E-Cores. But I’m digging it, especially now they are so FAST! The 13900K and Z690 has been the smoothest platform I’ve ever owned or ran in my life, not to mention it’s not crazy expensive. Especially when it comes to gaming and working and doing multiple different things at once. I feel like the e-cores help keep windows 11 and its bloatmaster background task running okay. And my games or primary task run butter smooth on P-Cores simultaneously. This is something my 11900K couldn’t do. You would get those occasional skips and pops, primarily because the CPU was all tied up in running what I was doing at the moment. So if anything happen in the background the chip could stumble even if only for a moment. But it was a distraction.

I guess it’s kind of like Satellite TV. They say 99% reliable. Well that 1% is still 14+ minutes where it’s not working in a day lol. 13900K is smooth and reliable 100% of the time.

Unless I'm missing something, there are no E-Cores on those Sapphire Rapids Xeons. For one thing, most businesses probably still run Windows 10, and that OS suffers from occasional issues with E-Cores. Second, Intel wants to provide AVX-512 on the pro platform, and that's only available on P-Cores.

But yeah, it would be great to see something in between: octa channel RAM, up to 512GB, more PCIe lanes. Doesn't look like that's in the works though :(

Agree, that 13900K exceeded expectations.

Interesting. Looks like the Strix 4090 may have a production flaw. The second video is the demonstration of the repair discussed in Roman's video. Got to love ASUS and their high pricing and low quality. Status quo for them.

@Mr. FoxThat ChipQuik solder paste is really useful lol.

My favorite belt broke about a week ago and I haven't been able to use it. (It's one of those weird reversible ones, and the little screw that went into the belt buckle stripped and broke off.) I thought that maybe putting a bunch of the solder paste onto the screw and into the screw hole might create a strong enough bond to keep the frame and buckle together, so I tried, and it worked. The belt is significantly stronger now, I've had a good few tugs onto it and it hasn't broken yet. The only downside is that the belt is no longer reversible, but I don't really care about that... ChipQuik for the win though!

On a side note to keep this post semi on-topic, I've acquired a small oven that I can fit the heatsink from the P870DM into. I plan on using this and some wood clamps to solder the heatpipes to the heatsink once I can find some gasket remover to remove the paint from the heatpipes.

Yikes, so only $100 less than XTX makes it a severely overpriced downgrade. That smells a lot like an AMD version of an overpriced 4070 that used to be called 4080 scam. I don't know why anyone would want it if it is only $100 less. Should be at least $300 less.

I suspect this gives AMD room to price down if need be on the 7900xt depending on what Nvidia does with the 4070ti (nee 4080 12gb giggles edition). It is a lot easier to overprice then price down for consumer acceptance than the other way around.

Either way, no one in their right mind is going to pick a 7900xt over a 7900xtx.

Shame to hear about your memory OC. My Strix OC card does +1800 or +1900 before it crashes/freezes the desktop. Can't remember right now. My FE MSRP card does +2200 before it freezes at desktop. Golden memory does +2000 or higher with average seemingly around +1400-1700 from what I've seen on OC.net.

That FE sounds like a pretty proper sample! How are the GPU OCs? How's the coil whine this time around on the FEs? Every single FE card I encountered from the 3070 up to the 3090 was very whiny. As for the memory, not that anything is promised from the MFG (OC'ers sometimes forget that. It is running will within spec) in regards to overclocks but a sub 1300 card would be getting a return from myself too same as a poor CPU sample.

The way I view it, if they sell an overclocking-centric product to an overclocker and it doesn't overclock worth a damn, I am calling BS on their defective crap and would return it because it is falsely-advertised defective crap. I think I am done playing by their rules, or their lack thereof. No point in paying a premium for top quality when it turns out to be garbage that fails in the silicon lottery. They can give my money back and pawn it off on some other stupid sucker.

Hey Pap, I ditched the MSI Suprim Liquid X as it had crap memory. if you tried to hit 1200 in Afterburner it would lock up the computer. I did trade it for a MSI Suprim X version and it is far superior to the one I had. 1900+ on  memory and no locking up computer.

Thinking back, the Zotac does give me the "looks like a cruise ship design" vibe.

damn u guys, +1900 - 2200 is insane 😄 i can only push mine up to 1700 when it starts crashing. for 24/7 ultra stable with zero artifacting i have to dial it down to +1525, but not yet done testing though.

the issue with the liquid X might be temps, i.e. its cooling the vRAM "too efficiently" so it loses OC headroom. the vRAM on the 4090 does really like to stay warm for high clocks!

Are you sure? These ain't diesel engines.....

Edit: you may be onto something:The increase in current flow means decrease in the resistance. Thus, the electric current in the semiconductor increases with the increase in temperature or heat (Semiconductor has negative temperature coefficient).

Still, flies in the face of the "cooler is better" overclockers' rule of thumb.

Also I think if AMD reduces price from get go, I bet people will still buy Nvidia. That's how it has always been from what I have been learning lately. The Ampere vs RDNA 2 pricing, post mining crash is the literal proof. So they aim for margins and undercut nvidia but not significantly because Nvidia always always is raising the roof withe very single damn GPU generation.

Really? What? That is so weird. It seems contrary to common sense, doesn't it?

I wonder if this could be a symptom of a faulty manufacturing/soldering process like with Roman's defective Strix 4090? Higher temperatures may help mitigate the poor connection and colder temperatures exacerbate it.

I think part of it is the desire to avoid risk and drama, so many pay extra (way too much extra even) to spare themselves of the nonsense that AMD has a reputation for. I know for me it has nothing to do with brand and everything to do with regrettable past ownership experience.

That’s cool. W-3175X rules! I was tempted numerous times over getting one. EVGA Dark SR3 motherboard is glorious. They don’t exactly make sense now, with how fast the 13900K is. But it’s good Intel is putting some distance between mainstream high end platforms and their next HEDT Sapphire rapids platform.

Because X299 and Z270/Z390/Z490 were always being compared to each other in gaming like it was even relevant.. Which it wasn’t.

Interesting. Looks like the Strix 4090 may have a production flaw. The second video is the demonstration of the repair discussed in Roman's video. Got to love ASUS and their high pricing and low quality. Status quo for them.

I just finished watching both. The only thing that struck me odd was the Timespy score of 33k which was definitely on the low side especially for the Strix 4090 even at stock.

To see it fail like that again in the same fashion wow.....

There is probably some more corrosion in there somewhere if the GPU and one of the memory chips had it already.

But in Asus's defense this was a pre-production unit maybe subject to looser tolerances and QC standards.....

Actual, authorized Intel response to someone asking why his new Asus laptop has soldered on memory for the primary DIMM (I kid you not):

What is even more sad is that many, if not most, sheeple are accepting of this utter bullcrap. Laptops have been around for how many years, and never needed to have soldered filth because of being moved around. People that believe nonsense like this are as dumb as a box of rocks, and the people that tell them nonsense like this are evil and dishonest. They can't be honest about it because the accurate answer would just make everyone angry... even the stupid ones drinking the Kool-Aid that seem to enjoy being sodomized.

If you have the Prema BIOS, which I think you do, you should do the following:

  • Disable Ring Down Bin
  • Set the performance mode to Hyperperformance

I find that Hyperperformance mode yields the best stability while overclocking on this laptop, plus it opens up the power limits. Those are the only two settings I've adjusted for overlocking. I've set the non-turbo ratio to 8 so I can downclock and save power when using the laptop away from a power outlet. I'm also using adaptive voltage, but you'll of course get better results with static voltage. I just don't like using static voltage because it wastes power when the laptop is idle.

I'm using Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut liquid metal on the CPU. The washers are just regular small sized washers that will fit the standard computer screws used in this laptop. The 4th CPU screw (the one that kinda hangs off to the side in a weird position) has also been cut off since it creates uneven mounting pressure on the CPU. As for the IHS, it's a 10th gen Rockitcool full copper IHS, which you can get here: https://rockitcool.myshopify.com/collections/10th-gen/products/copper-ihs-for-10th-gen

If you'd like, I can message you pictures of the inside of my machine.

Thanks! I will do that asap lol. Sure!  Would love to see them. Would these mods and the BIOS tweaks also work on a Eurocom P870TM1 with a core i9 9900k and their unlocked BIOS? I have both laptops and would love to give them both their full potential.

Maybe buy18 of them. They are damn cheap, but awful sound and most likly not the best cooling I have seen. Now you are warned.

The fan from HELL. This 4000 rpm server fan is loud. But not so so it is more powerful than my Noctua 3000 and 3000 rpm EK-Vardar Furious.

Bro @Mr. Fox You remember I posted info about Alphacool's new cheap powerful fans? They come in 120 and 140mm + up to 4000 rpm.

I ordered these fans for the build to my middle son

I checked first Alphacool and then the web store Aquatuning who sell their products. I ordered from them.

The 140mm fan is exactly what they advertisee in look, shape and design. All good.

Then we have the 120mm fan. What I got looks more as a server fan.

The Manufacturer no.: 24845 is verified correct for my 120mm fans and what the Manufacturer + shop offer.

On the box with my fan it say Article no.: 24845. But what I got is something different.

What I got is on left. A server fan but with the correct article nr. Fan on the right is the correct fan I expected to get. This is so damn disgusting.

image.thumb.png.93b3d04117eca5967a25925b4d28351a.png

Even the EAN: 4250197248457 nr is correct stamped on the box I got but I didn't get what I ordered. Then compare the design vs server fans below. The fan I got have even an ugly colored cables. And the uvly colored cable is 30 cm. Not the 40 cm as advertised. This is not what they showed in the press release.

image.thumb.png.b653077b0343b03c9243c66fbbf8126e.png

See... Alphacool 120mm server fan. Stamped ES as well. Same design as the fan I got but with different label, and product numbers

image.png.ff4fc4e7d90bbae8cafd45bd01c21cef.png

Now I'm very angry. Soon Christmas and the  shipping is a problem before Christmas holidays.

Edit. And the cable is 30 cm. Not the 40 cm as advertised in the press release. The quality control is a huge disaster.
