OK, I got it to boot and validate 9200 in Gear 4 without overclocking the CPU, NGU and Ring, so I will see what happens if I start tweaking those. Will first see if it will boot in Gear 2. If not, then maybe no point in experimenting further except for memory frequency submission on HWBOT.

Edit: Nope on G2 above 8800. Back to G2 at 8800 for now.

 

These sticks are not on water yet, so I can't run this too long due to thermals. It doesn't take long for the sticks to hit 50+ °C running Karhu on air. (About 3 minutes.)

I think I'm pretty similar. I'll have to check when I'm home again. I still run 8667 CL38 on my 270K.

Man, I’m shocked on 5090 power…. I popped in the 5080 Astral to check things on the 9950X3D2 and grab some rendering video of it, since it’s being sold. 
 

Playing Crimson desert 4K leverages the 5090 to a new level completely…

So, did a little bit of digging for elusive information online and found a solution that works with my TeamGroup CUDIMM kit. Forcing the clock driver to work for manual tuning without using an XMP profile allows me to keep the NGU, Ring and D2D values the same and still boot at 9000+ (example in above post). It will not work with my G.SKILL 8400 kit (non-CUDIMM).

 

With the CUDIMMs installed after POST there is a new menu under the Skew Control menu in memory configuration. CKD Configuration and manually set Single PLL mode forces the CUDIMM clock driver to take over and do the heavy lifting on manual tuning. If you have not booted at least once with a CUDIMM kit installed or have normal DIMM installed the CKD Configuration menu does not exist.

lol, you forgot the power of the 5090! 🤣 Especially now that you're running a real AIB card and not the 5090 FE adds that nice bit of "oomph" on top. I said it before and I'll say it again, if price was no object I would have stuck with the Astral. I liked EVERYTHING about it and I do mean EVERYTHING except the price. Aesthetics were great, cooling lights out for an air cooled card, good build quality, tons of QOL touches. Basically zero coil whine. I know it wasn't a deal breaker, but I know you have to be loving not having that screeching of the 5090 FE in pockets.

It is a great program. You can export your memory settings as an XML from HWiNFO64 and import it, click the analyze button, and it will tell you want timings are non-compliant with JEDEC. If you run the stability test if it can determine what setting is off it will identify it for you. Unless the price is crazy, I plan to buy it when the free beta access expires.

welp FML, the WVP II alarms have returned while playing BMW, back with a vengeance! still current imbalance issues. so i swapped out the cable i had been using on my 4090 before and now on the 5090, installed the WVPII and the backup cable anew, and guess what?! THE BACKUP CABLE IS EVEN WORSE! installed it twice and pushed in so hard i thought id break through the case back panel lol.

 

so now the plan is to go all out and order like 5 cables and bin them.....this connector is SO trash, unbelieveable. but yeah, the WVPII has already paid for itself! both cable connectors and gpu power socket are still in mint condition btw, so all is well.

 

u guys got any recommendations other than seasonic stock cables and cablemod?

Hey guys, so unfortunately it looks like the RTX 2080 Super in my Clevo X170SM-G is dying (pink screen artifacts, GPU-Z can no longer read most of the stats of the card). I was going to go a GPU upgrade at some point to an RTX 3080, but looks like I'm being forced to do it now. 😅 I wasn't planning on an upgrade just yet as everything still runs fine for me, but oh well. It's not often a GPU remains useful to me for over 4 years (and I've had this laptop for 4 and a half at this point), so I suppose I should be grateful the 2080 Super lasted me as long as it did. I got an extra 6 months, yay! 🤣

 

I've already sourced a replacement/upgrade to an RTX 3080. For any of you who did this upgrade, did you also need to buy the KM-G heatsink? Supposedly the SM-G heatsink is incompatible with the 3080.

 

Also, does anyone still sell the water cooling heatsink? I figured I'd upgrade this laptop to the max while I was replacing the GPU. Additionally, I'd like to ask if anyone has some spare 10th gen copper IHSes as I can't find a place that sells those anymore. The Rockitcool one I have got welded to one of my desktops' AIO coldplates during some sub zero overclocking experimentation and I can't get it off.

 

Were there any extra steps required for the 3080 upgrade on the SM-G other than the usual INF modding? I already have Premamod on this machine, so the BIOS shouldn't be an issue.

 

How's everyone doing here? I haven't visited the forum in the past few weeks.

Thanks! Definitely want to give it a whirl. I agree about ZT. I'm so used to having it on AM5 I wouldn't mind an equally competent version on Intel.

Is that at stock 600w vBIOS? That replacement MSI MEG 1600T is still trucking along and even with a 600w+ stock OC and those wonderful bars lit up almost to their tops, it is really balanced and nice even when pulling 615-623w on the WV2P.

 

But yeah, the connector is atrocious. Imagine if you didn't have the WV2P and were just merrily skipping along playing till one day you're like:

 

"Is that smoke I smell?"

Yikes mine only lasted less than two years and they ended up replacing the MB and 2080 Super but it was under warranty at least during that time.

 

As for the watercooled HS, only place I found them before was AB and TB but I just checked my own launch page info on this here and they are long gone.

 

For the normal HSF combo for the KM, found one left on eBay

 

I dug through my heatsink bin and I did find this custom copper IHS I had made from BartX I know is from 9th gen I think but could be modded as needed potentially (sanded down for z-height issues on die). I had already soaked and reheat cycle treated it for gallium then sanded it down so it's smooth and saturated already. If you want it, let me know and I'll pop it in the mail for you to see if you can get it working with your 10900k no charge. Just inbox me your address.

 

My last, custom made 10th/11th gen IHS from BartX I sent off to @win32asmguy some time ago. That thing was awesome.

 

Have you messaged Rockitcool to see if maybe they have one floating around in the back somewhere? 🤣
