I ordered this as my second Z890 board. Price for a 2-DIMM is hard to beat. This is a LONG review and he actually does live memory overclocking and does a teardown on the board.

Makes total sense with the price hikes and 5090s trickling in.....at least from Asus's perspective. Prices are in flux real time. There's no realistic backstock to fall back on.....thanks Nvidia!

Asus and Gigabyte raising prices by 20% in Chinese channels

Gigabyte raising prices by up to 40% in Japan

GPU Prices up by 30% in South Korea

 

Prices are also on the rise 5080 on down. Microcenter has officially raised prices and something like the GB WF SFF 5080 I picked up open box for $983 less than three weeks ago is now officially "$1599.99" with some old stock marked as on sale atm or clear out, but this is a portend of things to come. 60% over MSRP......crazy.

 

Cheapest 5070ti is $989 and those prices haven't been adjusted up yet but basically (may be worse but at least):

 

5080 $1599 new low price incoming

5070ti $1199 new low price incoming

5070  $699 new low price incoming

 

9070xt's are supposed to get a price hike soon but the problem is nobody is buying and they really should at a certain point with some of these prices. I seriously think AMD is the only reason Nvidia is somewhat not blowing up 5070 and 5070ti prices even more like they are doing with the 5080 and especially the 5090.

With the contraction of the overall PC market, the logic here for MB makers is.....charge more because those who were going to buy will buy anyhow? Maybe Intel with Nova Lake, but AMD users will just keep their AM5 boards and upgrade  their CPUs if they feel the need.....

Sold my 9950X and Mycro Pro to @damric on overclock.net. Now I have the B850MPOWER on standby for Zen 6 if that turns out nice. It's rocking the 4585PX for the meanwhile, along with the crappy V-Color dual rank turd RAM.

 

I am so glad I snagged this 8400 memory kit and Supercool block on overclock.net back in March for $450 just to have on hand in my spare parts. It will pair well with the 270K Plus in the Z890 AORUS Elite Duo X. If you can even find it for sale it's a fortune. Super stupid - selling for $1500 on NewEgg now, LOL.

Always a pleasure buying from you @Mr. Fox. Personally it's much less stress buying from you since you know what's under the hood and no post-sale shenanigans from me. Here's hoping your next project will scratch that itch just as mine will for me!

A bit of a laugh but I actually tried to get a second opinion from my good friend Hiew to talk me out of reaching out to Brother Fox. He just straight up told me I was buying it before I even said anything. He's been so happy with the previous bundle I bought from Fox so that it comes up semi-regularly the performance compared to the 5800X3D for anything he does. From time to time he's downloading at 5Gbps and just giggles as the cpu gets to work.

5800X3D pretty much took care of all my needs but I did like the idea of the 9950x3d2. I have been too busy with work to know Mr Fox even had this chip but more than happy to buy it from him. Outside of our circle I probably wouldn't even consider it. 

 

Time to pick up a waterblock for the 9070 XT everything on my pc will be under water now. I may take some time off from work to get everything set up.

Yeah I was sad to see the prices for everything is a bit more than expected, 300 seems excessive. 

Going from GPU only loop to CPU, RAM and 2x GPU should be interesting

Still a damn good deal though on the price and I'm not sure 5800 vs 6000 will even make any meaningful difference in gaming and you can maybe tighten up the timings even more. Do a dirty mem OC test 5800 vs 6000->6400 in games and go "meh....."

 

Nice snag on the entire hood assembly so a small silver lining....

 

It looks like vsoc at 1.25v is more stable, at least it does not start throwing errors within the first few minutes. However at that higher soc voltage it's consuming an extra 10w under load which is a significant percentage of the combined load allowed wattage. Sticking with tuned 5800 or even 5600 is probably the best option here given it's limits. I think it's still a better experience than arrow lake hx despite the limitations. Even buidzoid mentioned using 1.25v vsoc in his easy timings video to account for dud chips. I wonder if being dual ccd also puts more strain on the iodie compared to a single ccd chip like the 9800x3d.

 

Vector a18 screen assembly arrived. Was not packed great but did not get damaged. Got it swapped and the screen is perfect and looks as good as the 5080 raider I tested before. It also solved a weird bug I experienced where I could not get into the bios if I booted with an external display connected.
