I still can't stand Gigabyte boards.

My hard limit for a motherboard is $350. $829 + tax is just crazy talk for my wallet atm.

I take it you snagged the SP92 on ebay? That looks like a decent sample if that's the one you picked up.

Those Hynix ICs are the way to go too!

Yeah, I do not like Gigabutt or ASRock. I have had one of each and was not impressed with either of them, and they were the "good" ones (as if popularity ever mattered).

Yes, I got that CPU and RAM from the same guy on eBay and got the price down about $50. I ended up paying about $50 over retail for the SP92 to avoid taking my chances in drawing a crap CPU in the lottery.

The seller was running the RAM at 6200 28-37-37-78 at 1T and tight sub-timings using 1.470V. So, that should be a decent kit. TeamGroup RAM isn't the most tasteful aesthetically, but if the RAM overclocks well I can ignore the looks of it, or replace the heat sinks with something more generic.

When I'm getting ready to discuss something I want to buy, I usually start with a home made meal, make sure any chore list items are finished and then ask if there's anything she's had her eye on and try to establish parity in purchase desire. It works....sometimes.

For this I agreed to take 2 days of PTO from work for a 4-day weekend and repaint the great room (kitchen, foyer, dining and family room). Seems like a fair trade since I knew that was something she was wanting.

Nice Crocks, bro. 🙂

I hope that my series of unfortunate events are over as well.

I like Samsung NVMe SSDs as well. Since the Unify-X has 5 slots I am going to use the 4 Samsungs that I already have and I ordered a WD Black SN750 500GB Gen 4 to fill the extra slot.

I am hoping I can just plug and play the Windows 7 installation on the Unify-X without all of the idiotic issues I had with NVMe/M.2 slots on the Z590 Dark causing BSOD issues without the M.2 slots disabled in the BIOS.

Best of luck brother. Regarding the new modern +-5000 speed rated ssd's. You won't feel a difference vs previous gen in ordinary usage. Only special cases and maybe for games. Even an old fashion 2.5" sata ssd works very well in the OS envionment.  But I tend to buy todays tech, not yesterdays. New doesn't always mean better. This apply most of things.

For the Asus boys and girls. It seems not only Dell push trash firmware updates. Will see what will come. But not very reliable/trustworthy f4rom what I can read here...  Z690E and 1103 BIOS

I agree. I really cannot tell any difference in performance between NVMe and SATA SSD unless I run an SSD benchmark.

I do like the M.2 form factor (NVMe and SATA) a lot because it is convenient to work with and doesn't require any wiring to work.

If the firmware that ships with the Unify-X works correctly then I will have no reason to update it. We are both the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" type and firmware is the fastest and easiest way to turn something good into something that sucks. Updating firmware for no reason other than a newer version has been released is absolutely stupid.

Solid choice on the Unify-X. I’ve read nothing but good things about it and MSI nailed the DDR5 OC this round. I’ve considered picking one up myself.

I actually intended to "check" the keys using Steam and planned to post what they are and share with others here. I think that used to work because entering a key first showed you what it was, then you had to click another button to redeem it. When I entered them to "check" they automatically registered to my account and prompted me to install them.

But, thank you very much. Your generosity is  awesome.

No, I do not. It looks like a good game.

I generally wait and buy games after the prices fall to around $20 or less and that one hasn't been offered at that low pricepoint yet, even on the Chinese CD Key seller websites.

I own about 325 games and have not played but maybe one third of them. Some I only purchased because they have a built-in benchmark.

I do not think that Steam allows you to transfer games from your library to someone else due to the potential for theft, etc. Unless something recently changed, that is not possible.

Thank you. Based on the research I was able to complete among a tremendous amount of marketing noise and lies, that Unify-X does seem like the best option overall. As much as EVGA is my first choice, I am not willing to pay the premium price for an EVGA Dark board. If Brother @Rage Set gets some incredible results from it, I might consider it later on if the MSI board isn't everything I hope it will be. The one thing I do not like about the design of the Dark series--probably the only thing--is the VRM heat sink interfering with placement of a water-cooled GPU backplate. Besides my own less than wonderful experience with ASUS, I have been noticing many things that do not boost my confidence about the brand based on what others are experiencing.

I haven't been impressed by MSI overall and I am kind of going out on a limb here. My only experience with a product made by MSI was the Tornado F5 laptop, so my opinions are only based on what I see, hear and read. They have historically been a brand that caters to gamer-boys and that has been the basis for my not liking them, but the Unify-X does seem like a legit overclocking enthusiast product. I liked Buildzoid's breakdown on the product and at the end of the day I don't care about brand except to the extent it become synonymous with quality (or the lack thereof). I like that MSI ditched the iGPU and the Unify-X doesn't support it at all. I also like that it has dual BIOS, board-mounted buttons and no RGB features on the board (only RGB headers).

I was hoping to get my Dark by tomorrow but the snow storm we're getting here caused it to be delayed until Monday.

I need a new mounting bracket. I've been spoiled with all of the Asus boards that support both mounting types.

@ryan My HP Omen 16.1" 11800H/3070 repasted with Honeywell PTM 7950 (phase change) thermal pad. This stuff is amazing. Not quite Liquid Metal but the best thermal material I have ever used. I got a sheet of it from China, took about 2 weeks for delivery but damn this stuff is crazy good.

typically users are getting temps in the 70s...so yeah im thinking of buying a pad
