I was hoping something like Slabtop would come to the market as that is essentially a laptop style chassis for desktop parts. Unfortunately, that product never came to the market.

My plan for my ultraportable SFF gaming PC is to get a mini-ITX motherboard, a future core i9, an Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420 AIO, 32 GB of actually good DDR5 RAM (whenever that happens), and a mid-range GPU. I will be powering it using 2 HDPLEX 400w picopsus, and get 2 Bixpower CP300s to battery power it when I need to use the system away from a power outlet. I will be using a portable 17 inch usb-c powered 144Hz screen as well.

The one component I can't seem to find is a case I want for this build. I'm seriously considering building one out of legos because I can't find what I want.

You talk about a  single 8-pin CPU EPS connector for the mini ITX MB. As a good reminder.... 12900KS is an 150W chips. And none know if Intel finally get out the finger from their big but and also give the standard K chips same TDP. They probably have to because AMD will most likely release an 16 cores Zen 4 chips this fall (yep, no baby cores). And some rumors talk about 170w TDP for their top best performing chips. If Intel castrate their best chips with 125W TDP and this time also with double amount E-cores for Raptor lake then you see where I go 🙂 They just can't keep on with 125W flagship chips if they want compete with chips from AMD that is on a smaller node.

I just wish this was true. No baby cores and instead 12 real cores. And that Intel would release Raptor lake with 16 or 18 cores instead for more of the small baby cores. Isn't that correct bro @Ashtrix

I also wish it were true. I don't really see a good reason for the baby cores to exist. I think it's just an excuse for them to remake the same CPU with all performance cores later and sell that for more money instead of actually creating something newer and better. However, most people would find it almost impossible to cool. If they were truly smart, which they're not, they would stop building their processors with an IHS and sell everything bare die. Then cooling would be less challenging. It would also reduce the cost of manufacturing and increase profit margin.

Maybe they have fixed the flaw in latest Cpu-X version https://github.com/X0rg/CPU-X/releases/tag/v4.3.0

Yep, this show Apple in a nutshell. They follow the tech trend as hand in glove. The bell sheep in the tech industri taken with their pants down.

I'll have to check and see if that's fixed with version 4.3.0 of CPU-X.

I always make my contempt for the Redmond Reprobates known, but part of the reason I complain about their messes is because I want Windows to be a good product again. I have no respect for them whatsoever now. However, the Cupertino Clown Posse takes digi-trash to a new level. I never have anything to say about them because I consider them unworthy of even being acknowledged. They're like that chewing gum stuck on the underside of table in a booth at a filthy diner on the bad side of town. You know it's there. It's disgusting and you don't look at it, touch it, or even stop to think about it because it's irrelevant. In fact, you don't even go to that filthy diner because they're not worthy of your patronage. You don't care if they go out of business and do not want anything they offer. And, their filthiness is repulsive. That's how I view crApple.

Looks like the 12900KS boosts up to 5.5 x 2 and 5.2 x 8. e-cores boost up to 4.0 x 8 (!). PL1 and PL2 are 150w and 260w.

So if your 12900k can do 5.5 x 2 and 5.2 x 8 / 4.0 x 8 and keep the total draw to ~260w congrats....you have a 12900ks.

Funny, my SP91 hits those numbers exactly when set to 5.2 / 4.0 (261w) at a max of ~82c on the AC LF 420mm when just set to auto (no dialing in).

The other 3 chips I tested:

#1. Wouldn't boot at 5.2 (SP81)

#2. Did 5.2 at 297w 94c (SP82)

#3. Did 5.2 at 327w  Thermal Throttled (SP89)

Further confirmation that SP rating may be useful in a limited sense, but may not always be conclusive. The SP82 in the middle seems like the best of the bunch. I have seen the same with 10th Gen. Some with a lower SP rating overclock better/higher even though they may require slightly more voltage at a given clock speed. My 10900KF has a lousy SP rating, but it returns better benchmark scores and overclocks higher than numerous 10900K I have tested with much better SP ratings. It does take more voltage, but it is still often the winner when put in a head-to-head overclocking match against "better" (based on SP rating) processors.

AMD drops the ball harder than anything. Pile of trash.

It’s official: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D does not support overclocking

100% Junkyard trash no questions asked. This CPU is worse than all of the X series AM4 processors. X3D, the SKU naming has X which stands for Unlocked CPU. Now you pay same price as 5800X but get clock reduction and no OC support on top. Basically a "Gaming" processor wth is this nonsense.

Maybe you and bro @Mr. Foxcan post your most honest opinions on this new AMD locked down tragedy https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/amd-confirms-ryzen-7-5800x3d-is-not-overclockable.3754518/post-22641593

Maybe pm the mod team or the adm's. A better place take it there than in here or other threads. Ask them what rules they have implemented for the forum regarding posting gifts in the forum. Maybe they should add them into the General Forum Rules

You were given a warning, not threatened with being banned. The warning about posting keys is valid as the last thing this forum wants is to be harrassed by a software company for posting their keys. You say they are free, but there could be conditions attached and the moderators are not in a position to to check the details.

Correct, as we have asked both publicly and privately to simply PM the keys and all is resolved. I had a productive conversation with Ryan before so its quite disheartening seeing this new development.

Thank you very much for that heads up. Good thing there is in fact an SFF case that can fit an ATX motherboard, and that's the P-ATX V2. Only downside is that it's a boutique case, so limited production runs.

But there's always legos, hehe😁.

Agreed, the SP82 was much better than the SP89. Basically if a chip can hit Intel's baseline criteria of 5.5 x 2 and 5.2 x 8 @ ~261w it can get a 12900ks stamp of approval. So what if it blows up into a 300w+ heat box at 5.3 all core or won't do 5.3 at all? If you're Joe Average user and want to plug and play and get 5.5 x 2 / 5.2 x 8 out of the box guaranteed the 12900ks is a sure hit.

I'll be passing on it and with the debacle that is the 5800X3D, I'll be waiting to see what 13th and 6000 series bring to the table.

I am looking at ~200w GPU power levels (3060ti) min and 12th gen. The P case looks more portable/protected. I like all that ventilation on it. The Lian Li has a bit too much tempered glass and volume for my idea of something luggable.

If you don't need the 2nd Cpu connector and go for iTX MB and need the smallest case you can get. Of course you'll have to put of some time for dust cleaning 🙂 And accept a bit more noise. But you can't get a much more portable/ luggable system. This system is upgradeable. Aka the total opposite of today's laptops. 1-0 vs Jokebooks.

I was just watching this video as I was curious about the cooling on the M1 Ultra, but my god, Apple couldn't even solder the damn heat pipes to the fins 😠. This guy is also kind of annoying, but that's besides the point.

He is extremely annoying. He used to work for AppleInsider and wanted to sensationalize everything and push for clicks clicks clicks! They ended up parting ways over editorial differences it seems and he branched out on his own.

He brings that over the top approach to his channel. I'm subbed and watch some of his videos and yeah he is bit "ZOMG! WOW! WHOAZERS! YIKES! ZOINKS!" but the content is solid.

In some target apps, the Studio does shine but overall computational power? Still can't beat a 12900k and the GPU shockingly gets trounced by the 3090 no matter what Apple wants us to believe.

In terms of performance per watt though it is pretty impressive.

I like that but for portability with all its goodies exposed? Hmmm...

The sfftime 10L seems it wouldn't handle an AIO but the 14L might. I definitely don't want to do air cooling on a 12th. I'd want at least a 280mm.

Here is a review of the P-ATX V2. It is a bit bigger height and width and 10L is a bit misleading since it is lean:

If Raptor lake max out at 8 P-cores and 16 E-cores, they will lose the battle. This means the worst decision Intel has made for decades. Double amount baby cores as rumored and increased IPC over the whole stack and with 8 P-cores as the limit it will be a blood bath.

3. More cores are better, right?

One of the most exciting parts of the Ryzen 7000 rumours is that there may be a 24-core, Ryzen 9 variant coming. Unless Intel launches something impressive in the meantime, this 24-core part will be the highest core count consumer desktop part outside of AMD's own Threadripper chips.
