Yes. I will get some HWBOT points for sure, though. AMD CPU and GPU overclocking is frustrating and stunted. I think on purpose.

Yep, there is a reason I always go with Nvida over AMD. And I would still go with nvidia even if AMD took the longest straw and come in front. Same also when I search after older cards. I have one AMD card out of 16+. Thats the only and lonely 7970 and it will still be alone together with all the nvidia cards in the cabinet shelf.

And this repeats itself also for processors. AMD have been in front of AMD before but I still will cling to Intel. And if AMD next time will be the best clocker I will continue with Intel.

Yes, same here. But, Brother @Rage Setwas kind enough to let me borrow this GPU and if I end up liking it, he will sell it to me. NVIDIA and Intel are always my first and best choices. But, there is a chance once I figure out how to make this GPU do what I want it to that it will be a keeper. Right now it is very buggy unless I run it stock.

I can tell you that in something with ray tracing, the 3060 Ti FTW3 absolutely brutally rapes this 6900 XT. It's not even remotely close to the 3060 Ti in that scenario.

So, I ordered some acrylic polish to see if I can get the window on the DG-86 looking good (lots of scratches, which is common with acrylic, unfortunately). I've seen lots of reports of being able to make scratched acrylic look new or almost new.

I know. A very nice guest done of bro @Rage Set Have you figured out how to install Win 7 ?

If you could that I can see you may jump on the Radeon card. Have the option still enjoy Win 7 with modern hardware is worth a lot.

And RT is trash on low end nviida cards. 6900XT would be a nice replacemet for your 3060 Ti in your workstation pc. Or the 2nd bench beast.

No, I have not. Hopefully, at some point I can figure it out.

I can boot into Windows 7 but the GPU will not start. It has code 12.

No idea why. I am thinking a driver bug. I remember seeing the same thing years ago with AMD cards in Alienware laptops. You could not go by the name that appeared. You had to go by shader count.

Another bug that has surfaced, and I can replicate, is if I submit a Time Spy score from the URL that says "Submit to HWBOT" the data sent by UL identifies the GPU as a 6800 XT, even though the description seen at the URL correctly identifies it as a 6900 XT.

Some more updates on the PTM7950. I applied it to my 920XM CPU. Beats IC Diamond easily.

IC Diamond reached 89-92C max temps when overclocked to 3.7Ghz (stock 2.26Ghz).

PTM7950 reaches low-mid 80s max temps when overclocked to 3.7Ghz (stock 2.26Ghz).

My 2960XM is hitting 100C at 3.7Ghz right now in my other laptop. Will put PTM7950 on PU & SLI GPUs and report back when I do. Plan to do at least 4Ghz on this one and I think PTM7950 will easily allow that.

So far for laptops this is the best stuff next to liquid metal without any hassle of needing to create a barrier.

Here is another Joke from AMD...

The flagship AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX fell short of GeForce RTX 4090 performance tweaktown.com

The duo notes that it would have been possible to release a Radeon RX 7000 GPU with specs and performance that could compete with NVIDIA on the high-end, but this would push power to the 600W region. Not to mention raise the price to similar RTX 4090-like levels of USD 1600.

"We have chosen not to adopt such a strategy after considering whether it will be accepted by ordinary PC gaming fans," AMD's Rick Bergman says.

"We are focusing on GPUs that balance performance and cost" and fit within the $1000 class," AMD's Rick Bergman adds.

In short... AMD are focusing on costs. In better words.... Maximizing profits!! How can they know what the gamers want? Have they asked them? Maybe our old friend Frank Azor, told AMD shareholders what the gamers want? He should know.... Because he is the Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions at AMD. Yep, there we have it.

Edit.

And AMD is very concerned that the average Gamer Joe's or the Entusiasts PC boxes is too small. Nice. They think on everything 🙂

We take this strategy to fit into the mainstream infrastructure (hardware environment) utilized by today's PC gaming enthusiasts. At the same time as demanding high performance, it should be possible to operate with an existing "common sense" power supply unit, be able to cool the inside of the case "be installed without requiring an extremely large case." ――The Radeon RX high-end product group was designed with these in mind."

In the semiconductor business, we must constantly assess the trade-off between "performance" and "manufacturing cost"

I know they have switched to sending out cheaper, single rank, poor secondary timing sticks now mostly vs their original god tier PnP sticks for DDR4, but I took a chance and picked up a set of OLOY sticks and scored a set of their original monsters:

A good advice. Remember blacklist the exe in the outgoing rules for your firewall. Always try do that if you bought software keys in the grey market 🙂

This is bad news for those that prefer Nvidia. This just show that AMD don't want to compete and Nvidia can continue to charge over-price for their gaming flagship. They can do that, because there is no competition in high-end. So in short... This is rally sad news for both the nvidia and the AMD fanboys.

Compute performance is really good and impressive on this GPU, but ray tracing not so much. Look at the FPS with ray tracing enabled. It stress the GPU severely. I ran Bright Memory Infinite benchmark and only sitting on the benchmark menu and not running the benchmark the hotspot rose to 90°. Without ray tracing the temps are definitely lower and the frames much higher.

This is not new information, but this is interesting to look at relating to ray tracing with AMD. These are old screenshots that I had not deleted. It is not a complete set of matching options, just random screenshots taken with no plan to ever put them side-by-side... but still interesting.

I love how you are beating the majority of 3090/Ti's with that card. If only AMD put the same effort into ray-tracing that they did with rasterization.

thanks for that. yes im careful..gotta watch out for the boys in blue Redmond when it comes to sketchy commerce

Also watch out on Microsofts new low below. They continue improve their fantastic OS and features.

I just love the way Microsoft do things. But I and you bro @Mr. Foxalready know this. Yet another reason get rid of Windows Defender. One of many. Whats next? Use the GPU for Telemetry and Data harvesting? Oh' nope... They already do that😎

Interesting video. 75% of the 4090 is worse made than the 4090 FE from Nvidia. Yep, you can get a decent o'clocker (the lottery is real) but getting a worse cards with cheaper and fewer components on the PCB for same high MSRP or above than the vanilla 4090 from nvidia is pretty sad. The AIB partner kill themsel with this cheapo move. They don't need help from Nvidia to get rid of themself as a graphics card manufacturer. They are fully able to do it themselves.

I loaned him the card so he could see both sides, but it is likely a short excursion and not a permanent trip. I would like to see him test it in Linux.
