Any of you know of any cheap open air test beds? I will probably need one soon, but would like to stay under 50-60 USD. It doesn't have to be too featureful, I just don't want any of those cheap 20 dollar ones on Aliexpress and Amazon.

This type of product is what @Mr. Fox recommended to me a while back. I am using it for my 10850K system and will be buying another for my AM4 system.

Mine is not being used. I will put an ad in the Marketplace if either of you want it. I am trying to break my bad habit of hoarding PC components that I am not using, LOL.

Check the motherboard in the Amazon photos. It has IDE, parallel and IEEE 1394 (FireWire) ports. There are probably some folks in our community that are not even sure what those things are. 🙂

I ordered something for an itx form factor, will see if they fit how I would like lol

Also ordered the Thermalright Peerless assassin 120SE model, needed something for my AM4 system so that I can make my 7810 a VM sandbox. Was surprised to see a dual tower cooler for 37 USD.

Lastly though Amazon sucks, Im tired of their BS to quite honest. Look if a product is unlikely to arrive at my door by the same day then simply report as such but its been the last few orders now where it states same day but doesnt show for 3 days. Again Im not being irate because its "late" its just frustrating to repeatedly alter my schedule when a giant corporation like Amazon cant make simple projections and if it happens so often then why make the claim to begin with?

I wasn't aware that there was any place where they still offered same-day delivery. It used to be common in Phoenix, but that ended 4 or 5 years ago. Some items are available the next day (tomorrow) depending on what time of day you place your order today. It is extremely rare that I do not receive an Amazon order on the day expected. Once in a while something arrives a day late, and I suspect that happens due to an unreliable delivery person, or they got sick, or the Amazon delivery van broke down. (They do not maintain their fleet properly. They run those delivery vans ragged, and some of them aren't even safe to drive.)

Nice. Pay premium for nothing. And too expensive for office use (the cooling is most likely adquate for an locked down cpu).

As mentioned before, those dates are not a final target. Things are rapidly changing on the GPU market and the incentive now is to sell as many RTX 30 graphics cards as possible before RTX 40 is available. Therefore, AIBs now expect a price cut on RTX 30 series, but NVIDIA has not yet confirmed such plans.

It would have to be a pretty crazy price cut for it to not be really stupid to buy a new RTX 30-series GPU this close to 40-series launch. I suppose if the price drop was massive enough (like 50-60% drop) it would make sense, but either way they are rolling the dice. I wouldn't buy a 4090 even if I were wanting to spend money on a new GPU. They already showed us that they were back-stabbers by releasing the 3090 Ti, so anyone that would have bought a 4090 under normal circumstances is probably going to wait for a 4090 Ti to avoid getting stabbed in the back a second time. It was not only a stab in the back for consumers, but also a kick in the gonads for the AIB partners that now have 3090 Ti stock that is going to be obsolete in a matter of days. It would have been smart for them to have not manufactured any so close to the 40-series launch. But, I don't know if the Green Goblin will allow them to make a decision to choose not to participate in a product launch.

I feel bad for anyone that bought a 3090 Ti, especially if it was not a reference PCB. Any special versions (i.e. Kingpin, FTW3, Strix, etc.) are likely to have no options for water blocks. It would be stupid for companies like Bykski, EKWB and others to manufacture water blocks for a product that became obsolete within 90 days of its public release date.

If people want to wait for the 4090 Ti they may get no options for water blocks. Same as for 3090 Ti. This is a choice between pest and cholera. And they will also lose some of the the value getting a new card. The lifespan will be cut in half vs when new gen cards is out. You'll get two years out of 4090 if you don't put more money into Nvidia's pocket for the Ti card.

In addition to fleet operations they do also have amazon flex where people essentially act as a doordash for Amazon.

If its expected to be 2-day or even a month, as far as I am concerned then simply state as such. Last 5 orders were stated as same day, when in reality its been 2 full business days later @ 10pm.

I will have a post coming up in a few days about this project, listing my plans, goals, and explaining everything. I'm still waiting on some parts to get this thing up and running strong. I'd assume most of you already know what my plan is, but I may need some help along the way 🙂

I'm looking forward to this, it should help out the team over on the bot quite a bit 😉

(Don't mind my desk, I will be cleaning the dust and trash after this post lol, I gotta make space for the board.)

I was once told that a clean desk is the sign of a sick mind. 🙂

It looks like there is a Socket G3 desktop motherboard from Asrock, not for consumer but it exists. So I will be holding onto my 4980hq chip for a while longer it seems 😄

Yep, its the IMB-180. A guy on the bot used one for a 4900mq or 4910mq (can't remember,) I asked him how he got it on his page and no response. He's from Romania, which probably makes it easier for him to get wackier stuff like that.

I believe you can find them on Aliexpress or Taobao. I think I saw one recently, but for like 400-500USD and month long shipping. I'm keeping my eyes out on one for cheap though, it'd be really good for taking the Haswell mobile records 😉

@Papusanare you ready bro for this nonsense ?

"Hertzbleed" Exploits Intel and AMD Boost Frequencies to Steal Crypto Keys

Quote

"Heartzbleed," the new exploit can steal secret AES cryptographic keys when observing CPU's boost frequencies. The attack works by monitoring the power signature of any cryptographic workload. As with any other element in a CPU, the workload's power varies according to the processor's frequency scaling in different situations. Observing this power information can be converted into timing data, allowing an attacker to steal cryptographic keys. This is done using Dynamic Voltage Frequency Scaling (DVFS), a part of any modern processor.

Quote

It affects all Intel processors, and Zen 2 and Zen 3 AMD CPUs. The attacker can exploit this vulnerability remotely without requiring physical access. Intel and AMD will not offer microcode mitigations that should prevent this type of exploit from executing successfully. Additionally, Intel stated that this attack is not very practical outside of laboratory research, as it allegedly takes hours to days to steal cryptographic keys.

Best part is no Microcode BS thankfully. I wear my tinfoil hat and say how these exploits show up every now and then, more and more negative PR. Put more ARM trash in good spotlight (ARM is also effected by Spectre but majority do not know).

A few months back we got CVE related to Branch Prediction and this is now fresh for both Intel and AMD x86 processors.

Hope Nvidia, AMD and Intel have put some money aside for poorer times. No miners will come to rescue this time helping them to push the MSRP 2x upwards for maximale profits. Their only option to increase MSRP well above the normal is to limit the inventory of new cards, so the scalpers can make some profits. But that will be less profitable than try sell more cards. And what with the flood of used cards we will see the coming months? No money in that for Nvidia and AMD. Its called Payback time 🙂

Considering the repeated announcements about higher TSMC costs over the past year, AMD, Intel, and Nvidia might end up being forced to cut deeply into their GPU profit margins. Don't feel too bad for them, though — they should have some extra cash from the last two years.

If you're thinking about mining Ethereum as a side hustle, you should probably shelve the idea for the time being because, for the most part, it's not currently profitable. There are exceptions (and caveats), but for the average user, it could end up costing more to mine Ethereum in electricity costs...........  Read more...

And more RGB for the RGB jockey's.... Pay more, for nothing of value.  If you prefer or even enjoy install all sorts of RGB software then you'll be happy that the manufacurer have added their Viper RGB 3.0 utility to please you.

For whatever reason, there aren't many solid state drives (SSDs) that combine RGB lighting with the M.2 form factor and PCIe Gen 4x4 spec, or at least not many that I could find. They are so few and far between that Viper Gaming, a division of Patriot Memory, has erroneously laid claim to launching the very first such.......

At a time where there is only bad news, hard economic times, astronomical inflation, incompetent leadership and so much less to be thankful for than normal, it is nice to see at least something trending the right way. What is happening to crypto and GPU pricing as a pleasant byproduct are certainly like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day.

Speaking of older cards, any real difference between the 1GB and 2GB cards on the 650Ti boost cards beyond the vram?

I think 1GB vram cards limiting your ability to run some benchmarks. Aka giving less value.

Edit. See also... 1GB vs 2GB cards.

Hmm well I may grab a 1gb card just to test the waters, they are fairly cheap but that's part of the fun, bargain hunting!

Mostly because I can run benchmarks remotely and dial in the overclock. The crazy fun part would be something similar to @khenglish 980 DT modification with the desktop vram. Pretty outside of the scope of my skills though. Shame I haven't seen him make it over here.

It would have to be a pretty crazy price cut for it to not be really stupid to buy a new RTX 30-series GPU this close to 40-series launch.

Maybe you rather want Intel's brand new Arc A-series GPUs? 😀 They should be a bit cheaper than the cards you'll get from Nvidia/AMD.

Intel try follow Microsoft (new HW requirements for their new OS) and will help you to speed up your HW upgrade cycle. Isn't that sweet done of them?🙂 If you want the very best performance out from their new Arc Alchemist desktop GPUs, then you'll have to buy the newest and greatest platforms from Intel and AMD to be able to the get most out from your new Intel graphics cards purchase. This regardless if you buy their new low end or high end graphics cards models.

And you're forced to do a firmware update if you wish to run an Arc A-series GPU like the recently released A380 on a 10th Gen Intel platform. Nice.

Intel confirms Arc GPUs must have AMD SAM / PCIe Resizable BAR for "optimal" performance
