Raven
I have taken the plunge and ordered a new GPU. I'll have the second set of 32GB sticks on the way soon for a total of 128@ 3200mhz After that it's replacement screen and finally moving on to storage, Though I can't for the life of me find replacement Sata Caddies/adapters for the P870TM-G since I don't know where mine have gone. Also need a decent place to pick up a lot of replacement screws for this machine as i've found that they were made with weak metals/thin heads and tend to round easily. The price is one thing, but I would recommend the RTX3070! The RTX2080S has slightly higher temperatures again, so the RTX30xx would be slightly better and cooler:-)

Raven
Minor update: I have almost gotten a WWAN device (Fibocomm L860GL 16) Working in the second MXM port ever since I dropped the second 1070, I have it atleast mostly recognized by windows as you can see in the screenshot, Just a manner of figuring out how to 'wake' it up so I can have 4G LTE connectivity thus allowing me to take my laptop everywhere and not need a constant hotspot as it can provide it's own Portable Desktop Killer: P870TM-G Core I7 - 9900K, RTX 2080 Super, 128GB DDR4 3200Mhz, 120Hz WQHD

Raven
Alright ladies and gentlemen we have some promising results, Not only are the brightness controls for the screen working on the P870 but the slightly modified elcheapo heatsink is working but, I have an issue, I've never had to do an INF mod for a driver, While the sensors are detected in Hardware info show my card isn't cooking itself which is good, I can't get the nvidia driver too install So these are 5xx drivers I've got, does anyone happen to have a guide I can follow as the ones I find aren't up to date enough. 1 Portable Desktop Killer: P870TM-G Core I7 - 9900K, RTX 2080 Super, 128GB DDR4 3200Mhz, 120Hz WQHD

Congratulations! You can definitely try nvcleanstall: https://www.techpowerup.com/nvcleanstall/ I used it when I was having display issues and it did not solve my (entirely different) problem but it somehow convinced my laptop that I had a 2080 Super not a regular 2080, I even got some TimeSpy runs that said I had a 2080 Super 🙂 Techpowerup has a thread about it and there are lots of guides around and I think I ended up here: https://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/34429-how-to-mod-and-sign-nvidia-drivers-with-tpu-nvcleanstall/ The important part is that here you can tell the driver about your CPU: You may want to check both in that thread and in the Techpowerup forum if there are any drivers that are more suited than others for what you want to do. I feel like the current heatsink i've got is just not making good enough contact, At Idle it sits fine, And a load of up to 100 watts it's running warm, But after that temperatures just spiral out of control until a full system crash with either a white screen or greenscreen, Air coming out the vents feels warm-hot but not what i'd expect from something with temperatures going through the roof. This is idle And this is me starting to put a proper load on it, The fans are set to maximum power as-well, Once the GPU starts hitting boost clocks is when it goes through the roof. zex4
Good job buddy 👏 Do you using one or two 300w power supplies 🤔 As far I can see the max power consumption you had was around 160w...it's abit low for a 80 super Also your temps are like a 775 with separate heatsinks 😅 It's a bit strange for the p870 with better cooling power than 775.... Better check that heatsink fit, it clearly isn't good enough. Even the lesser non-SLI heatsink for a single 1080 is better than that at 200W, let alone a little over 100W. I've checked it three times, It appears to have proper thermal contact, Nothing should be preventing it from having proper thermal contact, Is it possible that the heatpipes are simply being overwhelmed? at 70-100 watts temps are fairly normal, Then after that boost clocks start being a thing and it just spikes. EDIT: So after the 8th Heatsink remount with better thermal pads to go with it, Sort of at-least we have achieved 200 Watts at 90C on the hotspot and 81-83C on the Core, That's with fans at FULL power and on a cooling pad that gives it optimal positioning for dissipation and intake and an airconditioner blasting 16C Air at me/the laptop (It's australia and it's hot outside) so that's significantly better but it still feels like this heatsink is woefully under powered for this. I also had a different kind of crash in that the whole system cut out but I know what caused that so I can fix that elsewhere. Speaking of which does anyone know what the proper pad sizes are for a completely new set so I can order them in and fix this once and for all since some of these pads Portable Desktop Killer: P870TM-G Core I7 - 9900K, RTX 2080 Super, 128GB DDR4 3200Mhz, 120Hz WQHD

Looks like you may need something beefier as these temps are certainly not great and you may have to figure in a higher ambient temperature than other members. As for the pads you will need feedback from someboy with the same heatsink and GPU. If that isn't possible you may want to look into thermal putty to be on the safe side. So rather than tearing the laptop down again, I found some Images of the one I use online, I picked this up locally from someone's dead machine. This is a 1070/1080 heatsink moddified (I had to make a tiny cut on the VRM area) to make room for a choke to fit. This heatsink was probably never built with the idea of a 200Watt load going through it to begin with. Given I could never pull more than 125Watts with my 1070, I also have the OLD dual gpu vapor chamber laying around but to fit that I'd have to make the same modification as I did to this heatsink. 1610ftw
I seem to remember that there were a few fitting issues with this one and the RTX2080 so not sure if anybody has used it with a 2080s. I have run it with a 1080 and and 200W and temps topped out at something like 72 / 83 degrees but that was at about 17 or 18°C so it is possible that with higher ambient temps your temperatures are quite normal. The vapor chamber heatsink would be much better choice obviously as it is made to cool at least 300W from two cards at 150W each.

This is a picture from earlier, But that's my vapor chamber Edit: And I don't really want to be cutting and dicing that up, And I kind of like the weight reduction of not having it and having access too the second MXM slot for my 4G WWAN LTE card. If not then you could also try to limit the power uptake to 180W and maybe also get better fans from Ali Express - there are better fans for the X170 and P775 so there should also be better fans for the P870. I could be wrong, But I don't think there are better fans for the P870? I am more than happy to be corrected on this. The fans that are in it are fairly chunky and do move a fair amount of air. anassa
@Raven have you tried undervolting and see what voltage it could sit at comfortably? Then from that voltage overclock? Raven
None the less I am going to put some thermal pads under the GPU between it and the Laptop's Chassis/board to try and spread a little bit of that Heat out passively.
