  1. Just checked my CPU temps with HWinfo in a game, and my Liquid Metal application is probably bad or not very good at all on this machine. I am not sure how shipping may affect this. But I set 100% fan speeds, reset HWinfo, and then started gaming, my CPU is still hitting 98c in KDC2. So I’m going to take this heatsink off today and check it out and hopefully get that fixed. I would have had no idea if I hadn’t checked my self.
  2. I plan to investigate my thermal paste/putty on this laptop. I know this machine has thermal putty from the factory, and Liquid Metal. So, I’m going to redo these. Under a 99% GPU load what temp does your GPU run on your laptop? Mine seems to be at a 84-86 wall playing KDC2. But man, it’s so butter smooth. Not hitching at all. But I feel like it could be better.
  3. I think it’s best to upgrade after all of the excitement wears off. Best time will be about 5-6 months before RTX 6090 series drops. That’s what I plan to do anyways. Nvidia is ridiculous though. Sad that they cannot manufacture a product at large scale at all. So essentially waiting 2 years for enough of them to appear is the only way to actually buy one at a reasonable price. But even then, they’ll still be $2,000-$2,200 dollars used on overclock.net in about 2 years. Thats a reasonable discount from the typical $2,700-$3,000 right now. The GPU market is toast though, that’s for sure. Crazy how just a high end GPU turned in to the price of a whole gaming PC or gaming laptop.
  4. Do you all think it is worth buying this extended warranty on this device? It is expiring in a few days. This was an Acer recertified device with a very short warranty. And it is expiring very soon, less than 2 weeks left. This extended warranty cost $207 dollars with a promotion through Acer. I do not typically buy extended warranties. But, with this being a costly and decent machine and all, I would love to hear input on this. Thanks everyone! Acer Predator 18” Mini LED 250hz Intel 14900HX+RTX4090 32GB DDR5/ 1TB M.2
  5. I received my 4090 laptop in the mail today. This was purchased with funds intended for an RTX 5090. However, since the RTX 5090 does not actually exist, (I’m not really near any local stores to really buy one) so I just gave up with trying to buy one online, and moved on with life. With my job, I’m finding my self having to stay at my desk 7a-7p. It’s paying well. But getting promoted to an operations manager requires me to play at a level of pure beast mode/be the best mode/no excuses allowed. 😂 So, I really needed a laptop for constant monitoring and check-in’s etc. First impressions: incredible panel! 😱 .. It’s just like OLED, maybe even better sometimes since it’s 1,000 nits bright and all.. No back light bleeding anywhere, I don’t even see any glowing at all. It’s 250Hz/ 16:10 aspect ratio, and 2560x1600/ Mini LED. So it’s really beautiful! You can run the brightness on 5% and it looks perfectly normal brightness like a regular monitor lol. CPU: 14900HX, feels very fast just using the machine. With fans silent it’s idling about 55-60c while downloading a game on Steam. With fans at 100% it’s not too bad. It’s LOUD! But the pitch and tone of the noise doesn’t make it annoying at all. It’s just noisy. But not annoying. GPU: Haven’t really gotten an opportunity to really use it just yet. But I’m expecting good things. It’s a 175w 4090 Mobile. Performance: So, I’m not expecting 4090 desktop power here obviously. But, it has DLSS3, and Frame Gen, and it’s 2560x1600! If my old 3090 Kingpin had frame Gen, I’d have never sold it! These are amazing features to have. Since Nvidia and AIB’s a like just recently killed the affordable gaming market for average people like me all together, buying a 4090 laptop seemed like the only way to go. Since even a RTX 5090 laptop MSI Raider will set you back an eye watering $5,000+ after taxes. Value: It’s a $2,000 dollar laptop. So, I think it’s going to offer a great value for what you get. A whole computer capable of decent gaming performance that is portable. Overall: This is a BIG laptop being 18 inches. I’ve never owned an 18” laptop before. The screen doesn’t feel like I’m squinting or leaning forward to find things like my last 15” laptop. And the 16:10 offers a little more desktop space to get things done. I really like the machine.
  6. The Lian Li P28’s just arrived, and these fans are super heavy. They are 120x28mm, heavy duty, very high quality! I’m impressed. The weight feels incredibly substantial like it’s a serious fan.
  7. My 4090 Gaming OC felt like a feather weight toy compared to my 4080 Super Suprim X. The 4090 gaming OC was just so light weight. While my MSI 4080S was a lead weight lol The 4080s Suprim felt like two 4090 Gaming OC’s lol.
  8. I say let em sit on the shelves for a while until nearly end of cycle lol. Then buy exactly which one you want and enjoy the cheaper upgrade cost. The lower the interest generated is probably better. Thats what I normally did. And then I had prepared my self for the 5090 launch, and it really made me dislike Nvidia for it lol. Too much stress all for a dumb GPU. So, I’m going to sit back and relax and just use what I have. The 4090 is already a brute as it is. And the RTX 50 series has been a let down with the paper launch, scalpers, missing ROPs, burning cables (Still). Since the entire world started PC gaming professionally and requires a 5090, I think Nvidia needs to first learn how to properly make a GPU and test them for full function/ full spec, and then they can learn how to make bulk supply like other companies do. The PS5 Pro launched in 11/7/2024, they are available all the time on Sony store for MSRP $699.99. This seems silly. But it’s a concept that seems legitimately impossible for Nvidia to achieve this with their own products. So it makes me think they are artificially inflating GPU prices even further. I’m not really sure. 🤷‍♂️ Anyways, I’m still sore from the whole 5090 endeavor lol.
  9. Great idea! I have a SPI programmer with a Soic 8 clip somewhere from my laptop days, I remember seeing it when we moved in to the new house. I need to dig it up wherever it is. So, I can flash the new bios and it will only update the bios, and not the firmware?
  10. Should I update my bios +6 years? Asus just released a new bios here in 2025.. 😁 NOPE!!! In all honesty, I hate that once you update you cannot go back.. It really sucks. I mean, you can revert back to an older bios. But you cannot go back to an older firmware like with newer Asus boards. I updated the Bios+FW on my other Dominus Extreme, and I regretted it. I have to say, for such an old bios it gives me no trouble with Windows 11. Part of me wants to try this new bios, but I know there's no going back once I do.
  11. I’ve decided to get a new power supply for my new build. White cables for the all white case. I’m stepping up to 1200w this time just for efficiency sake. Taking a look at the Lian Li 1200w Edge. These units are very well received apparently. The removable attached USB hub, and fan hub is awesome and very convenient. Also has a removable fan filter as well. This should make wire management easy. White Lian Li V3000+ Case White Lian Li P28 Fans (No RGB) White Lian Li Edge PSU Once the singularity dual D5 distro plate arrives, I’ll get the build finally going. The Lian Li V3000+ Plus case is just sitting in the box.
  12. @electrosoft those laptop prices are INSANE!! I feel like MSI is going too far with the $4900 dollar MSI Raider. This pushed me to just go with last gen 4090 laptop after seeing their prices on B&H Photo for the last week or so now. It’s some extreme prices for sure. If I’m spending that much I’d want a MSI TITAN. I miss the days where top end laptops were all SUB 3K. I’ve been out of the laptop world a while. I bought some fans for my build. I almost went full on RGB. lol. And I might still do it for the outer rad fans. So you can see the purdy lights gleaming through the front and top grill 🤤 🤣 Anyways, I settled on white Lian Li P28 fans. @Mr. Fox these are the quietest highest performance radiator fans. They are non RGB, and they can actually outperform the Phanteks T30, while being quieter. Noise was top priority for me! I wanted to build a completely silent PC that offers excellent cooling. I’m wanting a change, and I am having difficulty focusing at work with the chiller now that my job is getting harder and harder. Shopping for fans is really difficult. Singularity Computers has shipped my dual D5 distro. So we’ll be getting this build under way very soon. What a process this has been. Singularity is a build to order type of shop. I’m a little sad I won’t be building a 5090 in this rig. But whatever, Nvidia sucks after all. Anyways, these P28 fans link and snap together. And the snaps can even be removed. So linking together 4 fans only needs one wire for powering all fans. you can also daisy chain from 4 fans to another fan. Meaning you could hook up 4 fans on one rad, 4 fans on another rad, daisy chain them together, and run a single wire to your motherboard to power all 8 fans.
  13. Thats awesome. I unplugged mine again as well for a video I made lol, and I’ve got to move the system to my new Lian Li V3000+ case which means another unplug coming soon. I was hoping to build with a 5090, but these are tough times for sure. And those things are just too expensive and unobtainable. I’ve really come to terms with keeping my 4090. I might snag a 5090 after no one is interested anymore.
  14. No, being very serious. I just spent $2,200 on a new laptop for work. I had a max budget of $3,000 dollars for a RTX5090. I’m using the rest of my funds to finish out my Lian Li V3000+ Plus case build. I’d have to sell my 4090 now, and that’s a silly move for a potential pipe dream. I don’t mind waiting now. I drained my enthusiasm and really wasted too much time on the 5090. I was in a corporate meeting once and got some BB alerts and was like “One moment” 🤣 the addiction and want was strong. So I gotta let go.
  15. Man, I’ve lost interest in the 5090 unfortunately. Especially one for $3,026 dollars after taxes. I think I burned my self out on it. It just doesn’t excite me anymore.
  16. VR is massive @Mr. Fox . It’s taking over honestly, walk in any Walmart and you can buy a Metaquest. Seems to me like every young kids mind from here to across the world where they either have already, or want a MetaQuest VR headset for Christmas. It’s essentially a game console by its self. Many of them are Standalone headsets with their own built in hardware to render games. Some are standalone and require a PC though. We even have two Steams. “Steam” and “Steam VR” VR support is a big deal though. It’s really holding back the Intel Arc B580, because many people want to hook up their VR headset to the PC. And let their GPU render in a more powerful with higher graphics quality. AMD sucks at VR support, but they are getting better. And Intel is completely nonexistent. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Okay GREAT NEWS! Nvidia just launched PRIORITY ACCESS for gamers to obtain a 5080/5090! You have to have a GeForce Experience app created before 01/30/2025, and you can sign up to receive a purchase link for the cards which are supposed to go out next week. This is amazing NEWS! Hopefully it works out well. I personally think retailers need to stop selling the 5080/5090 completely. They are all going to scalpers. Right when I throw in the towel, Nvidia pulls this crap... If I get a link, I am buying one for sure! Nvidia is making it easier for fans to buy an RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 — here's how @electrosoft One of my last laptop's in 2017 was my first ever gaming laptop which costed me $1,780 USD Aorus X17 with a 7820HK/GTX1070 8GB. This machine was AMAZING. Build quality was fantastic! It was fast! I could undervolt and overclock it. The GTX1070 rivaled the GTX1080 machines easily. But it was 4K and I hated how sluggish it was for a GTX1070. Games looked AMAZING, but ran like a slide show sometimes. It did okay in most titles with 30-50 fps. But after I got my Clevo 15" machine in 2018 which had an Intel 8086K/GTX1080 MXM, and it was 1920x1080@120Hz which blew through every game. 2018 marked the first time I ever experienced 120Hz and it was on a 15" DTR Laptop. I loved the machine so much, I cannot count how many hours I put in to playing on that thing. My current thought process was that my current desktop 4090 crushes 4K with 80-120+ fps almost always. But, with a laptop 4090 I am losing half of my performance at least, right? So, I cannot see driving a 4K panel with a laptop 4090 and going to 40-60fps in 4K lol. I think it would make the machine feel very slow. So, the Mini LED 2560x1600 was the driving factor behind my purchase, and probably the 2K price tag pushing me over the edge. Even though the machine may not be as good as an MSI Raider. I just cannot cope with traditional IPS panels with back light bleed, it drives me crazy. And 4K was something that I did not want again after my first laptop experience. Even though I know perfectly well how good that MSI 4K Mini LED panel is. It has been a long time since using a laptop. Over 5 years now I suppose. So, I hope I like the machine. Fingers crossed. I do hate that the bios is locked down though and no undervolting can be done. Sometimes we have to learn the hard way, I am stubborn like anyone else lol. But, I wanted to stay within a tight budget on getting a last gen laptop just in case I wanted to sell it and get another one. I do not care about overclocking it, I mainly just want decent temps and smooth performance.
  17. I really hope Nvidia falls a few brackets in popularity. Their availability is pure garbage. I’d love to see AMD/Intel make a competitive GPU that can compete with them. Intel still has no VR support which is really hurting the ARC B580. Nvidia’s product performance/support is just so good, but damn I just can’t stand them anymore. I wish AMD would just throw brute size at a GPU concept that’s just overkill and overbuilt . Let it include its own 1KW PSU to power it 😂 massive die that just folds a 5090. That would be awesome.
  18. I’d rather buy a used complete computer than support the 5090 rush. I am done searching for them. I have spent every waking moment trying to buy a 5090 since 01/30, and I’m officially just done with it. Plus I need a laptop anyways. I know things are limited nowadays with BGA and all. But, even with how upgradable desktops are, we can hardly upgrade them even if we tried lol. The desktop market has gone south real fast, I was even considering maybe a 9950X3D CPU, but I have a feeling the scalpers are warming up for that one as well so I’m not sure how long I’d actually wait to obtain that. I physically cannot buy a 5090. It’s gonna be at least a year before that is even possible. And with how negligible its performance is, I may as well wait until 6090 series is almost nearing end of its cycle so I can grab one of those. Desktop GPU’s are just toast now and completely unobtainable. They’ve been put on a gold pedestal. I really miss the old days. BB alerts removed for 5090. I’m keeping my 4090. Also I realized at least with a laptop, the garbage is in-stock. 🤣
  19. I need the new laptop for work. I’m going through operation manager training at work. And it is very difficult lately. I need something portable to move around the house. And also I really need a 2nd PC right here beside me for having other things up. Otherwise, I would not have bothered at all. I have not owned a laptop in years. We’ll see how much I hate it. But I really just need something that can run fast, that uses Windows. And this was the perfect excuse to get a 4090 laptop.
  20. I wanted a raider 18, but unfortunately with taxes it was almost $400 more. This Helios 18 machine was only $2,000 dollars before tax. I don’t mind if it’s kinda crappy. I didn’t pay too much.
  21. It is 2560x1600 which is what really sold me!! Especially the Mini LED, and 250Hz are all icing on top. These 4090 laptops aren’t the fastest machines compared to my 4090 deaktop, so I really didn’t want 4K to bog it down. Looking forward to trying it out. I also most bought a MSI GT77 Titan 13HX, it had a 13980XE/64GB DDR5/ RTX 4080. These are nice machines. But I was worried about the 12GB VRAM. I know their cooling is elite, and I love the way they look. It was $2,150 USD, and I ended up passing on it though. I really wanted a 4090. And these Titan’s with 4090’s are still too much money.
  22. I’m rejoining the club that first brought me to this forum originally! I BOUGHT A LAPTOP, BGA JUNK REJOICE! 🤣 Okay okay. Hopefully I did okay. Acer Helios 18” 14900HX/4090/Mini LED/250Hz. I got it for $2,200 shipped.
  23. He hit the nail on the head. We’re gonna have $1,500 dollar xx70 tier cards all sold out 😂 The PC hobby is only for the super rich now. Hey, at least we can build systems, we just cannot put a graphics card in them lol. I’m not sure why we can still build a high end system for $1,000 bucks, but we’d have to spend $3,000 for a GPU to put in it 🥴 Intel 285K+Z890 Apex= $1,000 bucks on Newegg right now. But I’d need like $10,000 dollars to snag a 5090 Astral right now. 🤕 What a joke. I’m glad he called it out though. Just wish everyone would follow suite. The raping spree needs to stop, I can barely sit as is. 😁
  24. This dude on overclock.net has just reappeared. He has now just sent me an invoice for $1,550. However, I cannot pay it for some reason. It gives me an error on my PC and on my phone. I have never had this happen before. And now it all feels extremely suspicious. I don’t understand why he can’t just send me his PayPal so I can just pay for it. I’ve paid invoices before. I feel like something is up.
  25. I thought it looked decent running Haven at 3,150Mhz core even if only at 1080P. So I was like dang either way it ain’t bad for $1,550. My 4090 cannot do that lol.
