Not yet. I’m going to run 192GB Hexa Channel DDR4 4000-4400 range. I need to acquire (4) more sticks of DDR4 to completely fill the ram slots. I really want/need the exact same kit so I’ll have to buy another 8x16, 128gb kit. It will be pretty cool. Yes a lot of ram slots! 😎 -

Asus Dominus is in the house. And my 128GB (8x16GB B-Die) this ram kit was manufactured 02/2023!!! Amazing. Stuff is pretty fresh for DDR4 B-Die! It’s dual rank sticks and 128 gigs of overclocking goodness!!! uploading pictures -

Hey Intel, when you turn HT off, the power goes way down on the 14900KS. I also think the frame rates go up as well. 🤷♂️ 😆 -

Z790 Apex is here and it’s very much white. https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813119690 @Mr. Fox I did find a delid tool in Germany direct from Der8auer on his CaseKing website. I might PM him directly and see if he’ll just send it to me 😃 But I haven’t gotten a 3175X yet either. I’m hesitant to order one on eBay, because there literally isn’t a single one in the USA. They are all in China. So I’m worrying about if it works, and if it’s authentic. That will be my last resort. I’m trying to locate one in the US. I have emailed a few people who had some older FS threads on Serve the Home, and also some listing I found on Mercari. And I PM’ed a couple other people who I was told apparently have one. Gonna go start knocking on doors next. 🤣 -

Yeah, I’d have to buy the delid tool though which I may do just to replace its thermal paste with some KPX or something. These chips require extreme pressure on the IHS to break it free. But they seem fairly safe to delid from what I have researched. -

Those are high quality looking cards. I was thinking about this thermal paste with the Xeon W3175X. These chips are not soldered. They use thermal paste and it’s gonna be a 5 year old CPU. Now, some people complained about them having paste, but the die is so HUGE that even after delidding and adding Liquid Metal it barely even does anything to improve temps. Anyways, I’m thinking the CPU may require delidding and relidding with new paste for best performance. It’s something I don’t even want to deal with. -

I feel special with my 128GB of DDR4 Samsung B-Die kit. Then I watch this video how people were amazed and see it was posted 9 years ago! 🤣 It still sounds like a lot of ram to me even nearly 10 years later. It does not work that way with video cards and system storage. Nice to see that mostly all processors, ram, motherboards are all still quite useable as a whole with modern parts. -

These systems are pretty awesome. Definitely lots of cores and power for today, I just hope the board works okay. Many of them had a cold bug which was caused by 1 single resistor near the debug led readout. This resistor would prevent powering on if the system was in a room colder than 75F ambient, it’s an easy fix something we can replace our selves, or use a hair dryer to start our PC in the mornings lol. they also have some Cascade Lake options available as well for this socket like the Xeon 3275/3275M, and even the Xeon platinum 6158R which are both 28/56 with higher clocks but they are both locked unfortunately, so 3175X is still best option. I plan to crank it to 5.0Ghz and pull off some strong R23 runs. I’ll drop in the 4090 and see how it does with gaming lol. 😆This system is so old it’s carbureted lol. I am going to install the whole 128GB DDR4 kit, and grab (4) more sticks so it’s 192GB. This system will be the daily work mule. I may build it in a case. The motherboard is absolutely huge so I need to make sure it fits. Also, it includes (2) Dimm2 adapters. So I will definitely use these. I saw a few of the Kits like mine that were not Samsung B-Die, so make sure you read the stick and confirm it has “10B” this is for pretty much all G.Skill DDR4 rams that are B-Die 8GB, or 16GB, or even 32GB sticks which are the absolute rarest of all. Corsair is “4.31” for all B-Die. -

I have ultimately decided against Intel 285K and Z890 at this point. It all does feel like a stop gap generation to me. And I think following next generation 16th gen should be where it’s at. These generational gains are so weak with CPU’s and new chipsets. Sometimes you even lose performance in some areas. Lately I have realized that I’m involved in this hobby for the experience and the enjoyment. Not whether or not something is current gen, or how much time it has left until it’s replaced lol, newness of something is absolutely irrelevant. I actually decided on a retro build kinda like what @Mr. Fox did with his X99 setup, seeing that brought back memories. So I actually bought this Asus Dominus Extreme LGA3647 motherboard for a really really good price. I’m getting a Xeon 3175X 28/56 CPU next, then I’ll throw in my 128GB of DDR4 3200 CL14 Samsung B-Die on the board 🤤, and overclock it all to the moon lol. Should be plenty of fun and nostalgia. ^ This all sounded much more interesting for some reason. 🤷♂️ Yep, I picked up a matched (128GB) (8x16GB) of Gskill Samsung B-Die set for $250. 🤯 Samsung B-Die is VERY hard to find these days for a normal price, and people are actually scalping it left and right. I couldn’t believe it. 128GB maches kit for $250 is a STEAL for Samsung B-Die. Now I just need a Xeon 3175X, if anyone has one for-sale here let me know. These Dominus C621 motherboards actually support 192GB of DDR4 4200c17, which is pretty nuts. They should have IMC’s very capable like 10900K, only while using larger quantities of ram. The G.Skill 3200c14 (128GB) ram kit I purchased should not have any trouble running DDR4 4200c16. Maybe I can push it even further depending on IMC and amount of ram I leave installed. -

So I’m researching sapphire rapids W790 more and more each day. This platform is a server grade system that uses RDIMMS, server side has used RDIMM for a long time now. These are essentially 12V ram sticks. So they are different to our DDR4/DDR5 UDIMMS which are supplied with 5V. Anyways, all of the same ram IC’s you find for Z690/Z790 are popping up on the server side. Thats absolutely right, even Hynix A Die and Hynix M die 3Gbit are available in green sticks with an unlocked PMIC for full-on overclocking ability in the form of server ECC ram!!! It’s nuts lol. “Hey guys let me go overclock my server ECC ram” that’s the exact time we’re in right now. People would laugh at this years ago, but yet it is a reality! 🤣 Moving on further, I do like Sapphire Rapids because it is available with Monolithic design die and only P-Cores, and HT enabled. Let’s take a look at the prior gen 2465X this chip at only 5Ghz is a ripper!! Hitting 41K with same threads as a 14900KS while only clocked to 5.0Ghz. Newer gen clocks faster and has more cores, has faster clocking mesh/ring. So 2565X (18/36) should be hitting about 47K in R23 at only 5.0Ghz. Reading all of this about the W790 platform is awesome for sure. -

Im thinking about building something different. No doubt the 285K is fast. I might build an old school Xeon 3175X with a Dominus Extreme, or newer W790 with a Asus Sage board and a Xeon 2565X. I know Asus doesn’t always make the best products, and some won’t buy their products. But I have to give Asus credit for their continued support on enthusiast motherboards. Even after years pass by, they will still release updates and new bios. -

Thanks, much better prices from them for sure. Kinda expensive to build one of these though. I wish the new stripped down Asrock 2.0 boards were available as promised for their $499.99 price. I was able to find a great deal on ram though. All of this is just a little too rich for my blood. Let me tell me wife I require it real quick. 🤣 W790 Motherboard: $840 Xeon 2565X CPU 18/36: $1400 4x16GB DDR5 6000c32: $296 $2,500 for a budget build on Sapphire Rapids. CPU/Mobo/Ram only. 😆 -

That makes sense. I think most of the want for me surrounding this platform is merely from coolness and uniqueness of it lol. After owning it, that may wear off, and we’ll want to get back to basics. I would be curious of the gaming performance of these though. No E-Cores, and maybe 64GB of DDR5 6800, I can only assume it would still offer a good gaming experience. I also wonder how high the cores would overclock. The biggest problem I see right now is why Newegg and other retailers are selling these chips for more than their MSRP. The 2565X is only supposed to be $1339-1349. Makes no sense they are scalping them and selling drastically over the MSRP. -

Yeah that makes sense. I am just amazed that Intel has offered such a platform. Asrock released a W790 2.0 LGA4677 motherboard which was supposed to retail for $499.99, that alone is a great buy. I just checked the QVL, and someone can run 128GB of DDR5 6800cl32 just fine on one of these systems. The CPU cost is initially expensive, and these platforms do require RDIMMS which is ECC Registered DDR5. But we have the choice of last gen chips for this socket which are cheaper, and the ECC ram is available in Hynix-A die which can be overclocked or XMP Enabled. The die and IHS is huge on these chips, so I can only assume these big processors would run even cooler than X299 ever did. That Wendell guy on Level1Tech is always doing videos on these platforms. We are in a time where we are literally offered overclocking Hynix-A die ECC registered server memory that has a XMP profile, that is just awesome and nuts at the same time lol. I guess Intel was forced to do this since AMD allows this as well. Anyways, if I did run such a platform, I would use a Xeon 2565X which is 18/36 and unlocked, and probably some DDR5 6800c32, and I’d see how far the ram can go and how tight the timings can get. Cinebench on one of these chips is comparable to a 14900K, but once you start overclocking this 2565X from its tame low power 3.2Ghz all core, it starts ripping very fast. I could only assume such a large monolithic die could easily do something like 5.2Ghz+ all Core easily. I remember benching my 7980XE at 4.9-5.0Ghz all-core and it has a smaller die, and much older silicon. So, I’m not really sure how high one could even clock a 2565x, and how much power it would consume, not much info on this 🤣 The coolness and curiosity is absolutely there 100% though! What a cool platform that has been hiding in plain sight all this time. Xeons for everyone, in all core counts, with unlocked multipliers and overclocking server ram 🤯. The W790 motherboards even have WiFi and Gen5 PCI-E Support. -

Take a look at these Sapphire rapid platforms. These are overclockable, unlocked, and even allow up to DDR5 6800+ on the ram. They have all of the modern features as Z790 does, only these CPU’s do not use E-Cores on the CPU’s they have all real big cores lol. “Think very modern and unlocked 7980XE” lol. It’s so cool! Or modern Xeon 3175X lol. Intel has the Xeon 2565X which is a TRUE 18/36 unlocked Xeon chip that supports DDR5 6800+ in Quad channel, so the bandwidth is really impressive. I had no idea this platform even existed. They have much more powerful CPU’s available that drop right in to the same socket. Really an awesome platform. The IPC is very very good! These could easily be used as gaming CPU’s in a normal PC or work station PC that has full on overclocking ability. Another note: LGA 4677 water blocks are available from several manufactures. So this platform does not have many limitations. I feel like I have been under a rock. $1,500 for a CPU like that is expensive. But not too crazy. I have seen the motherboards as low as $700 range. Considering one could drop in a Xeon 3595X which is 60/120 cores/threads and is also unlocked. It’s not a too terrible value. Stuff like this intrigues me. I’m amazed Intel went the direction we all scratched our heads about years ago. Intel makes a whole slew of unlocked Xeon CPU’s released in 2023 and 2024 for this socket LGA 4677. @Mr. Fox Check out this video! https://youtu.be/jSae9muJviI?si=JI-YCpdR7dJTS4ib -

Z890 is probably not going to come rolling out the gate at peak potential either. There will be some serious growing pains with bios, new rams, new traces and all. I’m only upgrading to try something different. Assuming motherboards are available and not priced crazy high. Worst case scenario, I have to buy another 14900KS who knows what kind of sample it may be. And if I have to do this, then I’ll be buying a nice case too, and building a normal PC for my new office. I want to get a case and run (2) large radiators. Preferably HWLabs GTX radiators. I want a HW Labs GTX 560mm on the bottom of case, and a HW Labs GTX 480mm on the top, air flow would be going like this ^^^^^ bottom to top. I’m gonna use a 240mm Plexi distribution plate with a D5 pump on the front of the case, and also I will add about 2-3 additional D5’s in the basement of the case for extra flow and pressure. Maybe throw them all down there LOL. 😆 ^ This is new goal in mind for new build, and I’m more excited about the new case and new rads and build overall then If it uses a Z790 Apex or Z890 Apex. I really don’t care. 🤷♂️ it’s gonna be awesome either way. 😎 -

The 4 dimm boards are running 7200+ just fine right now, I have my sons really cheap Z790 Asrock at 7000c34 (This like a $119 dollar motherboard) (I cannot go further because it’s a 12900KS, so IMC LIMITS) Most people hitting 7600-7800 range on Z790 (4) Dimmers though with 13/14 gen. Some better chips hitting DDR5 8000. -

It really is. Regardless of what (4) Dimm Z890 options are released, these new Z890 (4) Dimm boards shouldn’t have any trouble with DDR5 8600 or even DDR5 9000 and will probably be comparable or better than all of the Z790 (2) Dimm boards. This is what happens with Z690 going to Z790. -

I’m going to buy the cheapest one available. Probably Tachyon. Or Asrock. I know MSI and their $2,000 GodLike even more expensive than the Asus Extreme. That new Unify-X is gonna be PRICEY! Probably $799 for Unify-X, and $879 for Apex. The Asrock probably $629.99 and Tachyon most likely $699.99 since their last one was already $599.99. (I know right, only $49.99 cheaper than a Apex Encore 😂 and it wasn’t nearly as good so now that they have Kingpin it’s gonna be outrageously high price) maybe do like EVGA did. Laser print his signature on in gold pen the box and sell for $99 more 😆 -

Now that I think about it, I really think this is when MSI needs to launch the Mpower series boards. I hope so anyways. Z890/ two dimm slots/ and $200 something dollars. Honestly, even $379 would be kind of affordable/reasonable. The only thing about moving away from Asus is we won’t know the SP rating or VID‘S. But I guess that doesn’t matter much anyways. -

I hope they don’t try to kill us on board prices this go around with Z890/LGA1851. $649.99 for Apex Z790 Encore was already steep. Some retailers even had it for like $619.99 Central Computers. This is almost like artificial inflation lol. It’s gonna end up forcing me over to AMD 9950X3D (I’ll jump ship if I have to, don’t want to but if Z890 Apex is $849 that’s silly) LOL. Or I’ll have to buy another random 14900KS close my eyes and cross my fingers and hopefully get something like what I just mailed to @Mr. Fox today. That chip had a really great memory controller. And I’ll just hang on to my Z790 Apex. I have not ran an AMD chip since AMD 64 and Venice socket 939. Another option is MSI UNIFY-X Z890, so long as MSI doesn’t try to price it crazy as well, it’ll probably be even more feature packed then Apex lol. 😆
