  1. My m17x r4 with a fresh rtx3000. Really like the low temps even with full load
  2. I didn't dare to install the gtx980m in my m15x, and replaced the gtx970m with the m5000m as an upgrade. It feels faster, although due to reduced frequencies the result in firestrike is lower than the last card's result https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/114892760? https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/114929896?
  3. You decide for yourself) yes I agree asus w90 is a rare laptop but essentially I wouldn't say it is fundamentally different from pre-dell M17. The differences are more interesting chipset and support for 3 RAM slots)
  4. Maybe it's a problem with the game itself. https://forums.cdprojektred.com/index.php?threads/physx-on-cpu-only.11053112/
  5. Depends on where you want to put this card. If in Dell M15x it will work, if in pre-dell M17 r1 it will not fit physically, because it is a card format MXM 3.0 type B
  6. What do you mean? If we are talking about dell alienware M15x (2010) then it works any video card that can display the output via lvds that is max - gtx980m.
  7. I want to buy an extended battery for my Alienware m15x laptop. It is desirable that it is detected by the laptop, but the working capacity itself does not matter. Location is not important. Photo as an example Edit: FOUND
  8. It is not necessary to update the EC firmware together with the system bios. You can work with it separately, although it is a bit more complicated - through the keyboard port. This is common for ECs. Specifically, the Viking model uses a chip - ENE-KB9012QF - a very common solution and used for many devices. The main problem is not to get or flash, but to disassemble and add the necessary for Viking) I am oriented in electrical circuits, but I am not very strong in the software component.
  9. As I see it the problem is not in the bios or vbios of the video cards. The power supply to the mxm connector is handled by the Embedded Controller (EC), which is a separate chip with its own firmware, not connected to the main system bios. Judging by one old fix on the dell site, it is there that the operating modes for different video cards are entered, as well as temperature acquisition from sensors and fan operation. https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=vrvww Perhaps the different actions of the system when modding the resistor are just related to the EC versions of different people
  10. If you're interested, here are the current specs. I bought my 4870 just to try to install it instead of the 4670, even if it works, I will have to lower its frequency. The 4670 is a good card and the temperature has never been above 75.
  11. We'll see if you're lucky.) as far as I remember nvidia cards need bios 1.25 and ATI cards need 1.19. But with nvidia support more than 2gb of RAM is not detected. Here's the bios from the main card I have. I don't have the other one, unfortunately. ASUS.ROM
  12. yes this is the fastest ati card for the mxm2.1 connector. the fastest nvidia card is the gtx280m. asus 4870 supports crossfire connector for it is located in the back, but to find the cable as well as two cards will be quite difficult. in addition, for the main and slave card need different vbios unfortunately there are problems with the bios if you try to run a card from another manufacturer in the laptop. tested on pre-dell Alienware Area-51 m17x and Alienware M5500i-R3/ Amilo Pi1536.
  13. The best mxm2.1 video card you can put in this laptop is the black asus 4870 that was put in the asus w90. As far as I remember nvidia graphics cards will give a message about invalid mxm structure
  14. Still strange, because 980m works even in m15x which has a bios even older than m18x r1.
  15. Greetings. The gtx 675m sli worked well in R2, so there should be no problems in R1. The 675m is basically a renamed 580m, so should be well compatible with your system
  16. PNY/Adlink Nvidia Quadro RTX 3000 does not work with Haswell generation Alienwares (17 R1 Ranger and 18 Viking) and if you want to do Ranger modifications you will have to look towards HP cards + modify the mxm connector + cooling system. A bit more info here:
  17. Can you give me a link to the lot where you ordered the i7-4980HQ? I want to try my luck, but I can't find any offers on ebay or aliexpress.
  18. As far as I know swapping a motherboard from r2 to r1 is possible, but you need a few things besides the board itself: GRP9C - the motherboard itself, YYFHR - Additional Reader Sub USB Board M9T51 - SATA Hard Drive Connector XVNKP - HDD Frame Bracket I think that's it. as far as I remember the only limitation is that there is no space for mSATA in the r1 case.
  19. There is a compatibility issue between wwan cards and some mpcie slots. To avoid this, it is recommended to isolate usb3 pins on the modem, which include pins 23, 25, 31, 33. It is enough to seal them with a strip of scotch tape. Ideally this should be enough, but additional actions are possible in case of failure. On some modems like quectel this problem can be bypassed by software, but unfortunately on Sierra you need to act as described above.
  20. @ssj92 Thanks for the reply. I will try to contact Aetina to see if they will agree to send me the card and if they will contact me at all.) Yes I have seen the new Ada Lovelace modules, but I'm afraid to imagine how much they cost and what problems they will have. If Ampere family bios are still somehow studied, these new ones will be full of surprises.
  21. Can I ask you the price you bought it for back then? I understand it's just not sold on Ebay and can only be bought directly in the US. It's just that I'm in Europe and need to look for intermediaries). About the bios. According to my assumption for correct start of Vbios card there should be a response from system bios about 4g addressing support. Presence of ReBar module is secondary and is necessary for acceleration of work, but is not a prerequisite. Therefore 4G decoding is a problem in our case, because it is not provided in the bios itself (there are no such hidden options in the latest versions of bios for m17x r4, r5, m18x r2 - I checked). In general, for ivy bridge platform I've seen only one successful case of enabling this function - for desktop ASUS P8Z77-V PRO, but it uses their proprietary bios and there is just such a hidden option. In the case of our laptops we use another platform bios from Insyde and there is no such setting either for ivy bridge platform or for Haswell and I don't know anything about adding such support, it is necessary to have access directly to the documentation of this company. That's why I say that it is easier to modify the vbios of the card and remove this check that did not allow to start the laptop with native vbios, but at the same time with the bios from dell it started. Of course, so far these are my assumptions, but I want to check them in practice. At least it is possible to test the card in a desktop motherboard with the debug connector connected and see the error message. Just for fun, I checked - the "4G decoding" setting appears in the bios of the Alienware 17 R2. In earlier models, unfortunately, it just doesn't exist
  22. Sorry for necroposting and bad English) Is it still possible to buy this card? I would like to do some experiments with my m17x r4 Judging by the behavior of A4500 with native vbios, the problem is that the submodule of this bios is waiting for confirmation from the system bios to enable the "4gb above" option and does not allow the card itself to start normally. That's why the author's laptop complained about the absence of the card in SG mode. You can try either to manually disable the blocking module in the bios of the video card, or ask the manufacturer (judging by the screenshots they met and at least responded). Unfortunately I don't see any possibility to modify system bios of Alienware m17x r4, r5 m18x r2, m18 r1 laptops - there are no necessary modules in our bios from Insyde.
  23. Greetings. Could you please help me with the 970m video card on my m15x laptop. I need to modify the driver for windows 7 specifically 472.12. If it helps, here are the specs of my video card.
