I wanted to check out this mod and was blown away with how well it was done. I also added a 4K texture pack, and the increase in visual fidelity has been a sight to behold. There is a bit of stutter when loading new levels/areas, but the marked increase in visual fidelity is well worth it.

Finally getting around to finishing Doom 2016. I'll either play Ghostwire Tokyo or Turbo Overkill next.

The app created by a group of enterprising coders has been revamped to provide even more functionality. Here's the full feature set: Full real custom Fan Curves! • Create a custom fan curve for each Power Mode • Decide the temperature points when the fan speeds will change • Decide what the fan speeds should be at each temperature point • The maximum allowed Fan Speed in the curve is dynamically determined based on Lenovo recommendations for your model • Stock Fan Curve settings are restored on exiting the application Switch Legion Power Modes Will also switch corresponding Windows Power Plans if they exist Windows Power Plan Control Choose whether switching the Legion Power Mode will also switch the corresponding Windows Power Plans if it exists. Some users may want to disable this behaviour if they use other tools to manage their Windows Power Plan switching events Turbo Mode Removes laptop control of the fans so they run at their factory maximum speeds. Only available in Discrete Graphics Mode (Hybrid Off). Hysteresis Determines how often LegionFanControl should check the current temperature before deciding to change fan speed or not Read the current Fan Speed Now in RPM values Fan acceleration speed Determines how quickly the fans accelerate or decelerate when it is time to change fan speeds. This feature is only available on 2021 and 2022 models Save custom fan curves and user settings Settings are auto-loaded at launch Launch at Start-up LegionFanControl can optionally automatically launch when you log in to Windows Start minimised LegionFanControl can optionally start minimised when launched List of supported and unsupported models, along with download links are available at the official website: LegionFanControl

Ah OK, they just moved it and I wasn't looking in the right place. I've subsequently installed W10 Enterprise on my desktop, but I'll keep this image handy for future reference.

In Windows 10, there was a switch to disable telemetry via the group policy editor that worked if you had Enterprise installed. I'm not seeing it in Windows 11 Enterprise. Did they change the name or get rid of it all together so that you need to still use O&O Shutup10 and WindowsPrivacyDashboard?

Looking for some guidance on how to set a fixed CPU frequency for my Ryzen 9 5950X on the motherboard listed in the title. I want to set it at around 4.0 GHz so I can get strike a balance between performance and fan acoustics. If someone could provide instructions as if I were five years old, I would appreciate it.

I got my desktop back. It turns out the motherboard fried itself. Luckily, they didn't have another AS(s)Rock one in stock so they replaced it with an Asus TUF X570 Gaming Plus WiFi, which seems to have received generally positive reviews. While I was there, I picked up one of these. As much as I like the RX 6700 XT, NVIDIA's ray tracing is vastly superior, and that's a feature I've been using a lot. I had planned to get an Asus card to keep everything within the same ecosystem, but their 3080 was $300 more expensive than the EVGA. It's kind of funny because this is my first EVGA desktop GPU since the GTX 280.

Does this offer G-Sync, Advanced Optimus, or a MUX at the very least? Or is the 3070 Ti permanently connected to the display?

The Nitro 5 has garbage build quality and thermals. I'd go for the Dell G15 or Lenovo Legion 5 instead: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-g15-15-6-fhd-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-7-8gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-rtx-3050-ti-graphics-512gb-solid-state-drive-phantom-grey-with-speckles/6461724.p?skuId=6461724 https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-legion-5-15-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-7-5800h-nvidia-geforce-rtx-3050-ti-8gb-memory-512gb-ssd-phantom-blue/6455136.p?skuId=6455136 You will want to grab another 8 GB RAM module to upgrade the RAM to 16 GB, then you'll be good to go.

My relatively new desktop PC is completely dead. I was going to change out the 6700 XT for a 3070 Ti (as great as the AMD card is in most things, its ray tracing sucks), but upon attempting to power on the machine to remove the drivers, nothing happened. No pops or magic puffs of smoke to indicate a blown power supply. All the power connections seemed nice and tight, too. I'll be taking it to MicroCenter next weekend to have them diagnose it since the machine should still be under warranty.

"Doom: Ray Traced" mod enables raytracing in almost 30 year old classic FPS game - VideoCardz.com This mod looks really cool and runs amazingly well on my RTX 3060 laptop with DLSS set to balanced. Only NVIDIA RTX cards are supported, though the creator is hoping someone can provide support for AMD's implementation. Links to download the mod, high-quality audio files, and DLSS plugin are in the article. All you need otherwise is an original Doom.wad file.

You weren't forced to do anything. It may download Windows 11, but you have to click the button to install it. I've headed off my machines at the pass by uninstalling the "PC health check" app that Microsoft stealthily puts on during the first set of Windows updates. After that, I've never been bothered.

Last month I swapped out my 4K/120 Hz Acer for the 1440p/165 Hz MSI MAG 274QRF-QD. Despite the marginal increase in refresh rate, the MSI feels significantly smoother and more responsive. I really like that it has a Type-C input with DisplayPort-Alt mode that allows for the full refresh rate to be utilized along with G-Sync. That's how I have my Razer laptop connected so I can use the full-size DisplayPort input with my desktop. MSI also released a firmware update that included a dedicated sRGB mode.

Last year's 5i Pro and 7i used Advanced Optimus as well. Not sure why it was limited only to Intel-based models or if that will continue to be the case on the 2022 lineup. Seems odd that AMD would be excluded.

Everyone, its time to decide our brand!

I used my tax refund and Costco cash back rewards to completely overhauled my computing setup. I picked up a mid-2021 Razer Blade 15 Advanced with QHD G-Sync/Advanced Optimus screen and RTX 3060. While not as powerful as other laptops I've sampled over the last two years, it absolutely nails the balance of performance, portability, and fan behavior/acoustics. I wouldn't have considered it in the first place, but MicroCenter had this model on clearance for $1600, so even factoring in the cost of a two-year in-house extended warranty, it was still significantly cheaper than if I were to have ordered it from Best Buy or B&H. I found a spare 230W charger on fleBay for $75 so now I can keep one in my backpack at all times and the other at my desk. To keep all my peripherals in the same ecosystem, I bought a Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro (which felt better to my fingers than the standard V3), a BlackWidow Mini Hyperspeed to use on my couch, a Viper Mini mouse for the desk, and a Pro Click Mini for the road. I also tapped MicroCenter again to replace my desktop. They had a Ryzen 9 5950X machine with an RX 6700 XT, 32 GB of RAM, and 2 TB SSD available as an open box for less than $1900. The only things I don't like about it are that it has Windows 11 (at least it's Pro) an ASRock motherboard, which is a brand I would otherwise boycott because of how they've treated Hardware Unboxed and Gamers' Nexus. Still, this thing is stupidly fast and should last me a good long while. I was thinking of replacing the 6700 XT with either a 6800 or 6900 XT, but with the rumors of new GPUs coming later this year, I figured it would be better to wait. Lastly, I swapped my old 4K/120 Hz monitor for the 1440p/165 Hz MSI MAG274QRF-QD. The MSI feels notably faster and smoother. I like that it has a USB-C connector that supports DisplayPort-Alt mode so I can use G-Sync with the laptop while having the full 48-165 Hz FreeSync range available to my desktop instead of needing to use HDMI, which only goes up to 144 Hz. The stand is also far more compact so I can have the display a little farther away and my mouse and keyboard in a more comfortable position.

Just picked a random date to find my info from NBR. Seems like a lifetime ago. I don't remember how I found the form originally nor why I joined. I think at least part of it was to find a new home after nV News was either on its final legs or had shuttered completely.

So it's a modified BIOS and not something that was officially released/sanctioned by Lenovo. Try at your own risk.

From my understanding the advanced BIOS was never officially released. It only ever was a beta made available to select few people.

MSI Raider GE76 12th Generation - Costco Special
saturnotaku replied to qadhi79's topic in Bargains & Sales
With some of the best keyboards available on a gaming laptop. However, IMO, the port layout sucks, and Armoury Crate is multi-sh*t bloatware, worse than Razer Synapse. Further, I don't like how Asus handles power profiles. For example, only in silent mode does the CPU downclock properly when idling or performing basic tasks. Lastly, for whatever reason, whenever I've used an Asus gaming laptop with an external monitor, it's always caused very elevated idle CPU temperatures. Just using the laptop by itself in silent mode would have the processor in the upper 40s but hooked up to my monitor would see those temps soar to 60, even without bypassing the integrated graphics. This is why I've never been able to use an Asus laptop over the long term. -

That's another option with a 16:10 screen and AFAIK, a 300-nit panel. -

Lenovo Legion 5 Pro and 7 - 2560x1600 with 500 nits peak brightness. Intel-based models support Advanced Optimus while AMD ones have a manual MUX switch with G-Sync and FreeSync compatibility depending on whether hybrid mode (Optimus) is enabled. -

The GE76 has a pretty beefy cooling system so thermals shouldn't be a concern. -
The front-most port, which is USB 3.2 Gen 2 10 Gbps is. The Thunderbolt 4 port next to it uses the Intel integrated graphics.
