Even after dozens and dozens of successful flashes on all kinds of machines, the fear of imminent catastrophy & destruction always surfaces from somewhere, maybe over the years ones genes \ DNA got mutated to include digital fear & anxiety as a most basic survival tool :O) And yes, all well this time too !

^^^ LTSC, I'd like to help but can be out of the normal scope of this forum + my recommendations may not be right for anyone else. Google for a while, be awake and realistic, everything can be found. iso, dig around here and see if anything fits the bill. Saw a 2021 iot. https://opendirectory.luzea.de/ edit: that immense repository (iso's from pre-xp up to 11, all languages) offline, perhaps moved to new address.

^^^ Hello, basics, with any old machinery it's pure chance if some recent OS works or not. Even if LTSC is lighter than regular windows, there will be no miracle with a weak processor, too little ram, lack of drivers, a hd. If for some reason determined to use ltsc, try the earlier 2019, or LTSB 2016, "could maybe perhaps" make a difference. Or get some regular win 10, if your driver \ program problems goes away then that's the os you should use, if still problems get a newer laptop :O) And yes, some apps \ programs may not like LTSC, that's the way it is. After one got os \ pc completely up and going, it'll be a matter of testing one's programs. Most will work, a few may not. My quite recent Dell Precision copes very well, ltsc 2019 for 2,5 years. For fun and experiments I put ltsc 2019 on an old HP desktop and a Lenovo T61. HP (I5 'real' processor, 8 GB ram, SSD) works very well. T61 (by some luck got wifi \ bluetooth \ graphics \ everything needed working) sloooow even with a ssd, extreme heat under load. Close to useless in every aspect, just fun to see it's still working at all :O)

New Fairphone: repairability, software support & more
6730b replied to 6730b's topic in Mobile Devices & Gadgets
Am higly appreciating the good intentions and was looking forward to reviews. But... "Other handsets in the same class offer superior performance, longer battery life, nicer displays, faster charging and far superior camera performance. After all, those are a smartphone's key selling points, and the Fairphone 5 seems to miss them all." https://www.gsmarena.com/fairphone_5-review-2614.php -

Lol, of course they got their own scheme running under the horizon. But regarding consumer practices, I'd think they start to do a pretty good job, imagine if there was no one with real power caring and getting them to court. F.ex. at the end of the bleeping article there's a roundup of Google's location violations and condemnations. The fines $$$'s probably means nothing to Google, Musk, Apple, Zuckerboy, TikTok etc, the real result is being forced into changes = some benefit for the general public. And updated standards and requirements regarding current and future privacy laws. Particularly the EU seems to have successfully awakened a good dose of "fear of god" inside certain companies. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/google/google-pays-93m-to-settle-android-tracking-lawsuit-in-california/

Still using the 2013 version, currently on 4 machines. Now and then testing anything and everything to replace it, but always returning to the solid, reliable old dinosaur. Know nothing about possible insecurity (or win 11), only situation that would call for the "new and better".

New Fairphone: repairability, software support & more

...and loose most potential buyers > immediate bankruptcy :O) Looking at what happened to Huawei. But offering a degoogled os option (and their own safe app site) would be a nice move though, could harvest buyers among the privacy conscious, on top of those attracted by the sustainable side. But (in my Samsungs at least) all and every Google app can be disabled directly in app settings. Strangely enough, as one would believe Google would have chosen to cement and lock all their apps. And for those who know a little, all easilly uninstalled with adb. But I do not know what will leak to Google from other apps \ the os itself. Anyway, got to live (and deal) with things or stop using a smartphone. btw, Apple do not (-I believe-, got no recent Iphone experience) gives any and all causual user the possibility to disable all Apple apps. In that context Android is better out of the box. -

Another 8.1 (with classic shell) praise :O) Just checked the old Tosh (near 10 years old, still in regular use for yt & music streaming \ playing), realized it's original 8.1 install is nearing it's 10th birthday. All updates installed. Never the slightest sign of problem, error or hiccup during all that time. & only ever done 1 Reflect restore, many years ago replacing HD. ps, damn, how time dissolves quickly...
