  1. is this 3080 quick n dirty vs. ur best 3070 result? if so, then thats a very promising lead already at +15-18%!
  2. exactly my thoughts when i saw this thread. then again, STAYING ALIVE is a pretty good motivator if u ask me lulz. id probably move back to asia to switch to rice based dishes for the rest of my life, otherwise i wouldnt be able to fully enjoy the local food here in "wheaty" europe 😄
  3. lol 500 bucks 6 years ago really aint that much for a nice monitor....i mean, uve been using it for 6 years now, so it was worth it right? what should i say, having paid almost 1100 bucks on my monitor about 1.5 years ago 😄 still love it though! damn, this is reaaaally unusual and basically unheard of for Intel. theyve always been a beacon of quality and reliability when it comes to CPUs...
  4. absolutely, dont take any chances with such an expensive monitor 😄
  5. i just cant get comfy with using an OLED display for main D2D usage. From my perspective, it's basically buying hardware with an inbuilt failure switch a.k.a. burn in. especially in my case usage where i need a display for both gaming / media, as well as work, OLED is just not an option = running static elements for 8+ hours per work day. so at least for now: Mini LED with max. number of FALD zones FTW! 🙂
  6. word, ill be judging the Zen 5 cpus based on the expected +70-80% performance boost of the 5090 🙂 so at 4K max i still dont expect much, if any, X3D advantages. the regular review sites cite roughly a +20% uplift going from the 7950X to 7800X3D / 7950X3D in games at 1080p. This advantage dwindles to like 5% at 4K with "high" settings. Set that to Ultra / Max, and those 5% go down even further. so id rather have max multicore performance whenever needed rather than getting 2-3% more fps at 4K 😄
  7. highest real-world ive seen was 1009 MB/s, so the controller is specced for USB 3.2 10 Gbps. internal connection is for M.2 pcie 3.0 x4. i would be careful of those "40%+" claims currently floating around for Zen 5. Id rather expect somewhere in the range of 20+%, still nice bump though! at that bump, the regular 9950X would be roughly equivalent in games to the 7800X3D / 7950X3D, with the subsequent Zen 5 X3D skus likely being more performant as per usual. ill likely just get the regular SKU, especially if its released months ahead of the X3D versions. at 4K maxxed out im gaming 100% gpu bound anyways, so X3D cpus wouldnt have any performance advantage anyways. heck, currently in Alan Wake 2 i am SO gpu bound, that forcing my 7950X to its lowest clocks (sub 3 Ghz) with core parking enabled does NOT change the fps AT ALL when comparing to its max boost config 😄 cpu twiddling its thumbs while waiting on the GPU to plow through the monstrous amounts of data haha. edit: forgot to say - keep us updated on this! pics of the card, specs, planned mods, benchmark results with power data at stock and modded / oced!
  8. that reminds me, might soon be time to upgrade my DIY USB stick from 1TB to 2TB. gotta love those tiny enclosures that take M.2 SSDs in 2242 and 2230 sizes 🙂
  9. haha, i wish! my wife took the first year parental leave after giving birth and receiving up to 67% or 1800€ (whichever is lower) of her regular salary for 12 months. if the father also takes parental leave, he gets an additional two months of the same (which is what i will get). in total, both parents are entitled to up to 3 years each without pay. so yeah, in my case its basically 2 months pocket change plus 10 months unpaid leave. but thats alright, its awesome to be able and take the time to spend with the little one in those precious first years 🙂 and as bro @cylix mentioned, my job will be waiting for me when i get back, so cant be fired in the meantime. as for taxes, yeah, those are crazily high here in Germany. funny enough though, its still cheaper than if we would have stayed in Singapore and paid everything there ourselves (after basically non-existent taxes there). plus, work/life balance is waaaaay better here, so we moved 🙂 no idea if were gonna stay here forever, but for now its the place to be 😄 nice backyard u got there bro @Mr. Fox, mowing the lawn must be a biatch tho! 😄 haha that last pic is american suburbia at its finest 😄
  10. 50s, huh? good to know, thx for the heads up 😄 currently using my 1 yr parental leave not only to take care of my little princess but also take care of that dad bod that crept up on me. 4kg down, 2 more to go and im back to lean meat boiz! all that running around after the lil one and taking care of household chores is burning those calories like nobody's business! haha
  11. was like wtf is this thread topic, had to check it out, was not disappointed 😄
  12. afaik intel is readying a new tech that will replace hyperthreading, what was it called again? ah yes, "rentable units": https://www.techpowerup.com/318127/intel-15th-generation-arrow-lake-s-could-abandon-hyper-threading-technology#:~:text=Rentable Units are a more, different cores based on complexity. so basically, they still do multi-threaded workloads but not via hyper-threading as we know it. so its not like intel plans to suddenly lose 20+% perf. by cutting of hyperthreading. as for Zen 5, i dont think we will see 32 cores, unless AMD decides to go all in with the smaller Zen 5c cores. wouldnt make sense tho. id say mmaybe 24 cores max, with one CCD sporting 8 full fat Zen5 cores and the second CCD 16 Zen5c cores...
  13. be patient my young AM5 padawan 😄 Zen 5 support is only preliminary anyways, so there will be additional versions coming for sure. haha agreed on this. although happy to see Asus is fast, the available bios versions thus far are just inofficial test / beta versions. collecting them diligently but not flashing everything right away. gotta pick and choose carefully since i dont have as much tuning freetime as i used to have. baby girl and wife keeping me busy 😄 on another note, started playing Alan Wake II and DAMN. completely maxed out with pathtracing at 4K im getting 50-55 fps best case with occasional dips into the 30s with my 4090 overclocked to the max. completely insane! first time ever im switching to DLSS Quality to at least get 60-80 fps... the 5090 cant come fast enough if u ask me 😛 however, the game also looks absolutely stunning. talk about photorealistic graphics...basically another crysis.
  14. kool, but also feasible in terms of pricing? i mean, u can always offset it a bit by selling off ur modded 3070 🙂
  15. here we go boiiiiizzzzz! Granite Ridge Zen 5 CPU support in new Asus Beta Bios versions *w00t w00t* https://videocardz.com/newz/asus-x670-agesa-1-1-7-0-update-enables-initial-support-for-zen5-granite-ridge-cpu-series already got myself the latest 2005 for my X670EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE 😛 😄
  16. heard lots of good things and for a jump n run shooter it looks pretty sweet maxed out. havent played it long enough yet tho for any definitive conclusion 🙂
  17. depends on your expectations for 4K gaming @5 years. 6 years ago the 2080 Ti was released, compare its performance in today's AAA titles at 4K with RTX on and ull see what u potentially get with a 5090 after 5 years 🙂 yeah could be deliberate or just plain ignorance 😄
  18. welp as with all things related to performance on hardware: every program / benchmark / games has different bottlenecks. there are tons of games that do not benefit from any RAM OC while others see a big boost in min fps or even avg 🙂 always depends how and what ure testing i wager. huh cant say i have any complaints about my AC LFII 420. no pump noise, no water noises, performance as expected. whats the age and mounting orientation? also make sure its not one of those AIO batches affected by the faulty gaskets: https://www.arctic.de/en/lf-service-kit hmmm that is always a dangerous game to sell off the gpu before getting the successor / replacement... depends on whats more important to you: to make some profit on selling your 4090 before prices drop or to avoid any system downtime. i for one will go the second route, since i dont want to risk not being able to snatch up a 5090 at MSRP-ish prices or having to go the scalper route (or even worse: not being able to get one at all). the potential profit from the 4090 is not worth to potentially be sitting on a non-working highend system for months.
  19. welcome back bud, nice to be remembered from those good old days! i had the same decision to make when i jumped onto desktop back in Oct-2022 (damn its been that long already?!). it really depends how much fun u have modding it and how much headroom theres still left for modding. i had pretty much reached the end of the road for my Dark Knight, with a gpu upgrade being too expensive to be feasible, so i rather sold off the parts and invested into my new monster desktop (see sig). in general tho, i salute all Clevo hold-outs, those were awesome machines and the last stand of true DTRs! 🙂 btw, @Meaker also found his way here 🙂
  20. hahaha trust me, Hyperion is in use every day i can spare an hour or two. but my limited freetime also means i rather spend that time actually using it and not providing updates here 😛 currently playing through the alan wake series after i completed Control (same game universe, actually). currently in the last third of Alan Wake`s American Nightmare before continuing with Alan Wake 2. Should be quite the challenge for my 4090 and definitely worth upgrading to a 5090 (already compiling the budget for upgrading to Zen 5 and a 5090 this year haha). Ive also started Ratchet & Clank: Rift apart and waiting on Titan Quest 2, as well as the new Indiana Jones game, should be awesome! Still havent come around to properly adjusting the stand-offs for my custom CPU IHS, but hoping to finally getting around to it in the coming days / 1-2 weeks. i definitely want it ready before Zen 5 drops 🙂 and yes, ure right, it is god tier. that was the whole idea 😎
  21. quite valuable as im still using a big-ass tube of kryonaut that i purchased back in Oct-2017, so 6.5 years and counting 😄
  22. very nice base, then later down the line upgrade that to a nicely binned 14900KS and OC the crap out of it 😄
  23. welp if u kill it by just filling it up once with data then it aint worth ur actual data lulz
