  1. Anyone here experienced enough with buying a replacement 3080 mxm? I am in need of one and some of those ebay listings seem dodgy.
  2. Yeah, only be careful when removing the heatsink, too much pressure or strain and you can damage the cpu or gpu
  3. Yeah. Gpu needs changing, since reballing or replacing chips is expensive. Given that this gpu came from a famous listing of used 3080 where most of us got it, I was wondering where, now, I am supposed to get a replacement 3080 mxm. Some ebay listings are marked as "new", but who knows..
  4. I am guessing more vram, specifically, but will need to run tests.
  5. Guys, what do you think this is? Pc loads everything, but gpu driver does not load in, also hwinfo does not detect much about gpu. Device manager reports gpu driver error. Rest of the pc is useable. I am assuming this is indeed the gpu, or maybe vram?
  6. if fans work and temperature takes very little time to get to that point, then it is likely contact issue, caused by either the screws or wrong thermal pads ( either thickness or softness, especially vram ones tend to be picky)
  7. Yeah, but I have no use for them. Guess I'll find a way to recycle them somehow
  8. anyone interested in smg - kmg heatsinks btw? I got some spare.
  9. 1) not sure pins can be replaced easily by a user 2) you do need to get prema bios back somehow yes 3)kmg motherboard is actually reasonably different, moreover, no prema there, but there are other bios mods 4) where you bought it I assume? clevo's shop, or any other clevo reseller, could try ebay maybe?
  10. I'm not too sure about the vram pads, I tried everything that isn't the stock version at 1.5 mm and they all cause gpu thermal throttling for lack of contact, only the stock super squishy pads seem to work
  11. The heatsink's surface and the copper ihs are heavily stained to the point of uneven surface after months of LM ( conductonaut) use regardless of how irrelevant ion migration from the gallium component is towards copper surfaces, also for some reason LM applications on the heatsink did not last very long at all and it dried out very easily, while LM between cpu and ihs last much longer in my experience. Moreover one should be careful with replacing screws on the gpu's vapor chamber, it can easily bend. Main issue with a unified heatsink on a laptop will be proper contact, guessing that is why ptm is more adaptable to the situation. Still have not tried the 3 screw mod on the cpu side, was never convinced with it given that it takes you to saw off the smaller fourth mount, but one can replaced those screws and add washers with ease. Besides, there is also the question of power limits. 2 280w bricks won't allow much more than this, but then again usually combined loads see a bit lower wattages from cpu
  12. The only way to tame cpus like 10700 or 10900 in the x170 is to delid it, use liquid metal between cpu and ihs ( copper ihs is preferable) and then ptm7950 ( which is my setup currently, best for contact in my experiences ) for both cpu ihs and gpu, probably with the screw mod discussed here many times and the new fans, with an undervolt of around 80 to 90 mv in order to allow the 10900 to get to 5+ ghz. With this and the standard air heatsink setup, you can get the 10900k to almost 200watts without thermal throttling for a bit, and something like 150w 160w continous without issues ( 190+ starts to be a problem fo me), with a sustainable combined power consumption of around 530w to 540w ( with a 150w 3080). One could probably get better results from having a clean and lapped heatsink +ihs, mine has been stained by LM use, regardless of my attempts to clean it and flitz polish it. Putty or good thermal pads would also be preferable, but one does need to pay attention to vram pads, which need to be quite squishy and soft. Water heatsink setup however could have more headroom, with the obvious issues on movability.
  13. sm indeed, everything works as it should except gsync and dynamic boost which according to reasonably reliable source it just steals dedicated wattage from the cpu. Gsync is a bit of a loss I kinda miss it
  14. interesting, my cpu's faster (10900k) and does around 14k, but gpu is stock, also I do not have dynamic boost, dunno if that plays any role in this, but overclocking it proves it will use more power, up to around that 165w. Also my ram runs at a faster frequency (3200mhz) but lower timings (16 18 18 36). Whenever there is a NVcleanstall version of the nvidia app which should add more gpu control I'll play around with it, always had some kinds of issues with afterburner and miss the auto voltage curve regulator
  15. that, plus anything else you might have done to it, since my own 3080 does far less in time spy, stock settings
  16. very nice, congratz Would like to know the gpu settings
  17. Throttlestop exists
  18. you should check sata settings and boot drive settings in bios, those are present in all bios versions. As far as xmg's bios, no, it does not have everything unlocked, I suggest using stock bios from clevo and dsanke's unlocker, which you can find in this thread
  19. Speaking of pads, the only info and pictures I could find list thicknesses going from 1.5 to 2.5 mm, is that correct? Been wanting to try out upsiren 24w pads since i saw good reviews on them and they are relatively cheap. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1CAJP7ojt3jaGxBrJNTzd1Kp5-gikdh_8 these are some chart results for pads, putties, pastes and LM, I do not think I wanna deal with a potential mess a putty causes. Also wanted to try PCM-1 at least on gpu first, since it doesn't need a ton of cooling to keep low on temps. PCM-1 is sold on Aliexpress for far cheaper than the seemingly reputable sources of PTM 7950 ( moddiy, for instance). If you tried any, where did you get it? Is it useable for our x170?
  20. The orientation does not look quite right here, that inward section should be rotated 90 degrees clockwise from this picture's perspective, unless for some reason it is a different board
  21. lucky me, we got the same identical kit :) xmp 1 profile here, and the slow post issue might've been something else like an undervolt, bios reset and it's working great
  22. yeah I thought I also recalled some discussions in the old forum. Pity but predictable, thanks. Is there also a some kind of support list for ram for x170s? with its super delicate xmp support. Mine can struggle to post sometimes or posts very slowly after i changed my cpu to a 10900k
  23. Pretty sure this has been discussed in the old forums already but: Direct Die Cooling for cpu, we can't get it for the smg right?
  24. I wasn't referring to your instructions, you posted feedback on your past experiences, which I still would love to see some screenshots of perhaps. Not sure any iteration of prema bios can help in any way. Some supposed kmg cookies were imported into prema's version of the smg bios, yet we have a number of prema users with 3080 that have the same troubles as everyone else getting it to work properly. Moreover I still have to see any proof of the claim that dynamic boost in our dtr would throttle cpu wattage. Guess one could ask or look in kmg forum.
