I'm beginning to think we both got it from the same seller
-
i got dsanke's unlocker for the clevo stock bios, that's it
-
is there any guide/video to swap gpus in the x170? never did that myself and I know you gotta go a bit deeper than simply unscrewing the holder screw ( I think) and removing the connector
-
Speaking of...any good source for the kmg heatsink to be purchased from? Except for the hybrid heatsink with which I did not have a great experience
-
Order of boot probably. Start loading opt default first. Then check boot order or directly boot from wherever windows installer is. Also, 3080 gave you any issue?
-
look at the bright side: less heat, lower temps 😄 Check PMs please
-
speaking of the gpu driver, is DDU + nvclean install sufficient or there's something else that needs to be done?
-
Whilst losing g sync and not getting dynamic boost
-
we'd need a new bios, like a port from the km-g or something
-
Been thinking of swapping my 2080S for a 3080 for a while now so am trying to get as much info as I can. VRam alone is a big reason to these days anyway
-
Is it really better performance with 50W less? Doesn't the 3080mxm have 12gb? Which means 4 more than the 2080s
-
at that point you start to question if it is worth it
-
I also heard about G sync issues with 144hz fhd screen, also, I am still not convinced there is nothing to do bios wise to make it compatible, and there's no 15w boost so it's base 150w
-
yes after cleaning and re"pasting" my temps are exactly the same as yours (cpu after 2 cinebench runs (81C) and 1 shadow of the tomb raider at max settings run). only 75C is the hotspot instead of normal gpu core temp
-
Said gpu had eaten all of the liquid metal..funny how it only happens gpu side..cpu is always there..maybe a bit crusty after awhile (conductonaut). Wondering if there are better offerings around
-
How the hell isn't this thermal throttling??
-
I'm so tempted to get a 3080 for my x170sm...but still kinda worried it wouldn't work on it
-
had the bright idea to update my 2019 ltsc to 2021 version and lo and behold, sfxi audio, sound blaster atlas etc started working again...it's almost as if installing an OS that's older than the machine itself would give rise to some problems.. In my defense there was no ltsc 2021 at the time 😄
-
an unlocker much like dsanke's is enough for people to swap in a 3080 with a new heatsink and get the x170smg to work?
-
what's your average pch temp during loads? mine seems a bit high
-
that gpu power draw seems higher than stock, did you change anything?
-
the only thing that changed were the fans, and obviously exchanging the heatsinks to see which one was better. Thus the reduction in temps was due to fans and fans alone, By now I am pretty used to applying LM so I do not think there is much of a difference there. I changed the original post to something clearer
-
the truth is, I'm not sure these temps can apply to others just because of setup, using LM on both cpu and gpu etc, and the hybrid heatsink is meant to be run on water, though it can indeed run on air too, I never managed to get great temps on it on both sets of fans.
-
gpu on stock heatsink with new fans: 8/9 C less than the hybrid ( on air) and the previous stock one with stock fans (10 C less on hotspot). CPU stock heatsink new fans: pretty similar to be honest, some workloads can show a couple of degrees less, can happen to have a bit more stability on lower values, though I can say it doesn't go over 85/86 C on full tilt. Thing is I think there is a limit in thermal capacity that when reached increases temps on either cpu or gpu depending on load balance and heat concentration. I should mention that this is with a fan profile I have. Were I running max fans continuously, it would either take much longer to get to that level or simply be lower. Room temp was in both sets of tests 21 C. Gpu can't go over 0.975, frequency sits at 2085Mhz tops, small 350 overclock on memory, cpu is a 10600k with a 93 mv undervolt, frequencies are stock

Bought the new fans from taobao, they are excellent with the stock heatsink. Mostly I am so glad they are quieter. A good surprise is also the better temps they grant. I now have a set of stock fans, another stock heatsink and the hybrid heatsink, guess I should open a shop.
