  1. Yes that is a case where it would probably make sense to use the watercooling solution. I bought that heatsink myself but as my usage turns out to be lighter (last I looked it was about 150 to 200W for 6 to 12 hours per day) and the water cooling heatsink is quite heavy and thge setup would be a bit tricky so I do not feel that I really need it and I will most likely sell it again. @MaxxD should be able to fill you in as he has an X170 with the heatsink and also with the regular heatsink, too.
  2. The 11700K and the 3070 are not that demanding, have you considered going with a repaste and new pads instead? The watercooling will be very nice when you want it quiet - that is not possible with the classic cooling solution.
  3. We all know how painful a reinstall is, hope you do not have to do it!
  4. Yeah I guess I could do some of that but I like to know what I can get with the stock hardware and at room temperature which is usually between 19C and 23C, my freezer is more like 5C 😄 I have no issues installing two operating systems in fact I have two W10 and one W11 that are currently running on the Raider. I do however have issues with W10 Pro, 14th Gen and Hyper-V which apparently is not that rare. I am sure this can be solved but it is annoying to see these things not working properly because we are only supposed to use W11 with 13th and 14th gen.
  5. W10 has been used for that bench already but I need to figure out if I want to use W10 or W11 going forward for my working system. I would prefer W10 but I am having issues with HyperV causing a BSOD on W10 after installation, got to look into that. Another alternative might be W11 LTSC as it should disable many of those new upcoming features. On one hand I would like to keep W10 and on the other hand getting W11 to run without it doing the typical W11 things is also something that looks like it may be worthwhile, it is certainly not that clear cut when one needs to use W10 and I am not keen of swapping back and forth all the time, no interest in wasting a lot of time given the amount of programs and customization needed. Yes I know you have that cooler that can potentially lead to loss of hearing at full blast but not really interested in that. Liquid cooling is more interesting as it can increase sustained performance at non-deafening levels. As it is with MSI cooler boost I can score 35.3K for a 10 minute run which is exceptional but it would be even nicer if I could do that with lower temps and an acceptable noise level. Haha, I usually draw the line at benching computers as I find even that a huge time drain and if I started to bench tablets and phones, too that would be too much.
  6. Haha, it is strange how some us us seem to like benching more than gaming 😄 My kids on the other hand are gaming A LOT and almost never bench. Nah, no cracking of 40000 - the Raider misbehaves at the moment, must have installed something that limits me to a lower power envelope which means about 34K CB R23 max. Of course 34K at is good enough for work but still disappointing when I could easily get over 38K without too much of an effort. For all I know it may have something to do with the install of the 3Dmark suite but I do not have that much free time on my hands at the moment to check it and the first order of the day is to get W10 up and running in the way I want.
  7. Firestrike seemed easy enough, temps were pretty good at 55C and 74C average but then I did not make any effort with the CPU so it could have gotten hotter. On Time Spy GPU is about 10 degrees hotter at most and I would have been able to go higher with a lower temperature as the top ranked scores are all below 60 and sometimes below 50C with the exception of the first one which I expect may be shunt-modded. You did well to get that far with the Acer as its cooling is let's say limited. I NEVER have gamed on any of my laptops, my sole interest is in CPU performance and other features and the GPU usually comes with the territory when one wants a high performing CPU 🙂 Yes, pretty busy here, need to test performance with W10 vs W11, hope it still works out for W10 with proper E-Core integration. I like the MSI but it was a choice of necessity as once I had a closer look at my checklist that is topped by 18", good accessibility and 3 SSDs it was only two MSI laptops. The Alienware M18 could have been a candidate but it has an inverted motherboard that is not easily accessible and I am not a fan of such a design. If 2 memory slots, 16" and 2 SSDs do it for you then there is probably a great deal to be had on some 4080 Lenovo laptop - they seem to be pretty solid and I like their keyboard layout. Stability is an issue of course and my regular setup is so that I achieve about 2150 in CB R23 single core and around 34000 in multicore, that runs cooler and performance is still great.
  8. Hope you manage a good life extension for your Omen and yes with old games you will be fine 🤜
  9. I got the Raider for the combination of looks, performance and features and I would not be surprised if its gaming performance is not that much different or slightly inferior to others based on its 4 memory slots. Still 21K TimeSpy graphics is not too bad and the CPU performance with the stock overclocking bios is probably at the top of its class among non-modified laptops. It can be reached without any modifications, just the right settings and of course one needs a decent CPU and not a complete stinker. Oh and I tried Firestrike and got a nice GPU score, let's just say it was a bit of a learning curve 😄 https://www.3dmark.com/fs/32069955
  10. The Predator 16 probably has inferior cooling and limited power uptake, the Raider can run the CPU with up to about 250W, it is only important to hide it from him or it will power throttle 😉 Not that this would be sustainable of course but when only a single run is needed... So for a 10 minute run it would be about 34000. I also tried Time Spy but it was only between 19900 and 20800 which is not that great, would have to check how much I can get in Firestrike I see you top the rankings so I will have to see if I can get you 😉 Not that total scores would be that great as the CPU needs far too much power to achieve high scores on a limited power budget.
  11. New laptop to play with, new score. Started out with 37K plus after a bit of tweaking but finally managed to go quite a bit higher: That is the MSI Raider 18 HX and in this generation it looks like the best option for my needs and taste.
  12. Form 100C to 79C is pretty crazy! You must have had huge intra-core differences before the delid/relid!
  13. There you go - no reason to pay 10 to 11 times as much as SO-DIMM street prices for a 32GB or 64GB CAMM upgrade! I also find it quite ridiculous how Dell claims that they want to bring a new standard to the industry with these modules - must be new standards for price gouging...
  14. For multipurpose Windows use the 4K screen with 150 DPI would be my choice but for any gaming with higher refresh rates you will not be happy. So you need to decide if you have to game on the laptop itself - and which games you play - or if you can use an external display for gaming and then decide accordingly. Personally I would go with the QHD 165Hz and if that is important to you you may want to try and find an option that also gives you GSync although at that resolution/refresh GSync may not be that much of an issue. The 165Hz QHD screen has a number of advantages imo: Refresh rate is high but not excessively so it does not need calibration to look good as it is SRGB only which makes for more natural colors (no oversaturation) it can be run at 100% with no scaling and therefore it is compatible with a wide range of operating systems as an aftermarket modification it can be had for very cheap over here in Europe and I guess elsewhere, too As I said above my second choice would be the 4K screen and the third would be the 1080p screen.
  15. I only have 4.0 drives in mine - works perfectly 😃
  16. separate slot: SATA only 3 SSD array: the lower slot: NVME only the other two: NVME/SATA I have used Sata SSDs up to 4TB and NVME up to 8TB in it
  17. Completely ridiculous! I got 192GB (4 x 48GB) DDR 5 for something like 550$ and I think that 128 GB (4 x 32) GB was around 400$ but I would have to look it up.
  18. 32GB more memory for 1100$ ??? Are you sure that nothing else has been upped?
  19. This is the AMD version of the Raider 18 chassis but the Chinese like to call it the Titan Pro which they probably think sounds cooler. It has been online on the international website for some time now so those "journalists" are not really that great and merely blurting out stuff without even having a look - who would have thought 😄 You can find it here: https://www.msi.com/Laptop/Raider-A18-HX-A7VX And here in the overview of the Raider series: https://www.msi.com/Laptops/Products#?tag=Raider-Series I need at least 128GB of memory and either TB or USB 4 so it is not for me but as high powered BGA books with added memory and possible storage go it looks quite good and luckily has the QHD+ display.
  20. You got to look at the Leaderboard view then everybody will only be there once and you got 9th place: https://www.3dmark.com/search#advanced?test=sw DX&cpuId=&gpuId=1372&gpuCount=0&gpuType=ALL&deviceType=ALL&storageModel=ALL&showRamDisks=false&memoryChannels=0&country=&scoreType=overallScore&hofMode=true&showInvalidResults=false&freeParams=&minGpuCoreClock=&maxGpuCoreClock=&minGpuMemClock=&maxGpuMemClock=&minCpuClock=&maxCpuClock= CPU does not matter any more as this is a GPU only score. I still think it is better to just use Time Spy as they have about 100 times as many scores so this gives a better idea of how good the 3080 really works: https://www.3dmark.com/search#advanced?test=spy P&cpuId=&gpuId=1372&gpuCount=0&gpuType=ALL&deviceType=ALL&storageModel=ALL&showRamDisks=false&memoryChannels=0&country=&scoreType=graphicsScore&hofMode=true&showInvalidResults=false&freeParams=&minGpuCoreClock=&maxGpuCoreClock=&minGpuMemClock=&maxGpuMemClock=&minCpuClock=&maxCpuClock= With a 150W power limit it probably will be very hard to crack the top 100 in that ranking.
  21. I have very little respect for software that mainly tries to spy on me to show me ads or worse not to mention the trend to force upon me their "new and better" way of doing things. It is sad to see how things have developed in that area to a point where I consider software and apps by these big corporations as a lost cause and to be avoided if possible. But I got to say that I still admire a lot of the hardware when it comes to pure performance but whom am I telling that as many of us have some more recent higher end computer hardware. Everything else like the trend to absolve themselves of any responsibility when things go wrong, incredible price hikes, dubious performance claims, stonewalling right to repair and the trend to sell us iterations of the same as new and different etc. is not something I appreciate from these hardware manufacturers. The sad thing is that with everybody doing it there isn't one of those big 5 chip / hardware manufacturers that one could point to and say do it like they do as everybody tries hard to be a bad example even though they are doing it in different ways. Even so from time to time a company like framework surfaces and they have a great concept and do things different. I wish them all the best but unfortunately it is not that easy to get excited about their stuff...
  22. Haha, never heard of that one 😄 Intel obviously wants to compete with Qualcomm in certain aspects like implementing next to zero upgradeability so Lunar Lake now supposedly comes with integrated memory - all in the name of AI and battery life I guess. Apart from that I have for a number of weeks tried to make sense of all the new stuff that is coming out but have now given up as it is an utter waste of time to try and make sense of the lunacy that unfolds in the race for the next generation of CPUs and GPUs or combined chips. From what I could gather before I stopped following the big AI love fest there seems to be a competition between AMD, Apple, Intel, Nvidia and Qualcomm as to who can create the most deceptive and irrelevant charts for their new products while often not even telling us the most basic specs or release dates. So I'll be back when I can see proper benchmarks that actually allow for comparisons to previous generations of hardware.
  23. You may want to tone down your posts and try to be nice although this obviously will take some effort 😄 I posted the link to the bios I use a few posts ago (XMG) but if you are looking for a different reseller bios that is not posted online it is not that likely that people have it as most users use either the last plain vanilla Clevo bios or the XMG version.
  24. Yep, that Kingston memory is much more likely to work within specs than the Mushkin that seems to be hit and miss and it also needs more voltage. It MAY work with 64GB of memory but I would be very surprised if it works with 128GB. Looking forward to hear if you can sustain that CL20 timing with 128GB!
