A little update: I was able to enable Secure Boot after reflashing a backup of good BIOS. I just had to restore factory keys in BIOS and put Secure Boot mode to custom. Thanks @runix18 for the help once again. I think what bricked it before was trying to restore the keys one by one. If you do that you might get a message saying BIOS has been locked down or something and once reset it will have black screen. A BIOS reflash as in my case was the only fix for this issue (with hardware flasher). And now a bit more sad update. Starting from GeForce drivers 531.18 they have locked down the TDP slider in MSI Afterburner and EVGA Precision (and I assume all other applications). So the last GeForce drivers that you can run the RTX 3080 on P775TM1-G on 165W is 528.49. For now I am staying on 528.49. I don't know maybe in future I will update. Kinda sad considering the fact I found out you can unlock the TDP when I was on 528.24 and now just two driver versions ahead and it's gone...

Congratulations. You are not the only one with such curious mind. I did similiar upgrade with a Dell laptop going from i7-8th gen 6core to i9-9th gen 8 core. I can swear to god it hardware wise worked, but the software didn't accept it or there was some chipset incompatability as the laptop was stuck in a bootloop. But it's fairly obvious anything can be upgraded and swapped it's just the fact that 99% of the time it is not worth it. Like in your case, why the hell did you pay 404USD to upgrade 8565U to 8665U??? Just looking at the part number it looks like the latter just has a slightly higher clock speed and thats it. Makes no sense to me 😂 But hey, I understand it from a tinkerer's point of view. Good for you! My question is can I solder a 3080 Ti die on my 3080 MXM card and have it work by changing the VBIOS...🥴
-
Thanks for the suggestion. However I can't do nothing🤣 FN+D does the reset as usual (based on fans going full speed for a moment) but there is no display output. There is no display output no matter what I do. So it is impossible for me to revert this without using a hardware flasher. I am on my way home, and will update this later. Based on what I searched online it might have something to do with Managment Engine that I have modified aswell. I will see after I start working with hardware flasher.

Thanks! It is indeed working... So something is bugged for me. But atleast I know it should work🙏
-
Alright! Thanks a lot! So it is a bug or something. Could you double check with hwinfo if it shows up green as working? Or is it showing up in BIOS as active? Anyways, I will look into it👍
-
Wait, it makes sense doesn't it? Because Secure Boot is not possible with modified BIOS? I have heavily modified BIOS so that's why it bricked itself? Does anyone have better insight on how Secure Boot works perhaps? And if BIOS modifications affect that? I am starting to think it does 😂

I am not 100% sure on this one but Secure Boot might be broken with the 3080 for some reason. I tried to play Valorant. That game to my surprise has the most strict anti-cheat rules I have ever seen. You need to have TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot enabled. Litterally have to modify BIOS settings just to play a goddamn video game. Anyway, I tried enabling Secure Boot it didn't work and resulted in my laptop being responsive and doing some activity (responds to Caps Lock, FN+D works aswell) but having a black screen. When I am home I will investigate this issue further.

P775 TM1G question about purchasing a heatsink from aliexpress
srs2236 replied to the jg89's topic in Sager & Clevo
I have an update. It does eventually shut down. I was playing Little Misfortune for maybe 1 hour on Quiet mode. Quiet mode means, fans run at very low (inaudible) speed. CPU ran 100C for the whole time. What happened was the 100C went slowly to GPU, and just spread I guess through the whole computer until it just litterally shut down. Not crash, not restart but shutdown. I can only assume this is a safety mechanism before something overheats badly. I can say, I was suprised how hot the PC had gotten. The whole chassis was litterally on fire xD It took like 30 mins to cool down passively to room temp. So yeah. I have just been recently very annoyed at the stock fan speed profile. It's litterally a jet engine. I need to order some new cooling supplies and put a custom fan profile or something. I don't mind it being loud while gaming. I slap on 100% fan speed on both fans, put on headset and game on. It works for hours, CPU is on 100c but it doesn't shut down or anything like that. I just hate that it sounds like a jet engine while playing a indie game like Little Misfortune or just idle. So I have been punishing it a bit lately haha. But turns out it will shut down eventually if you let it burn without any fans working. It was roughly 60W on CPU and 50W GPU. 110W without fans for an hour is actually not bad.- 83 replies

Clevo P775DM3-MXM to PCIEx16 GPU Adapter Mod Project!
srs2236 replied to zex4's topic in Sager & Clevo
Try disconnecting it. Maybe there is some custom software to put the fan speeds manually? -
Oh okay... Best then to figure out a way to order from TaoBao.

That's also to be expected. No reason for AMD GPU's not to work. Good job! -
What if two people buy? like how much for set of 2?

P775 TM1G question about purchasing a heatsink from aliexpress
srs2236 replied to the jg89's topic in Sager & Clevo
It is thermal throttling almost all the time. It doesn't really shut down. After maybe 2 days of running it sometimes crashes but thats probably more like some OC or undervolt of mine to blame and not really the temperature. I am not worried about the CPU degrading or dying because of these temps but more worried about the longevity of the motherboard and its components around the CPU when running these types of temperatures. However so far it is perfectly fine. I will maybe in the future do some mods to try and improve the cooling though. Curious about the new fans, need delid IHS, perhaps order the phase changing thermal pad etc. I am 100% sure it will improve my situation. Last time I repasted was once I installed 3080. And Thermal Grizzly likes to lose it's performance over time like crazy.- 83 replies

Clevo P775DM3-MXM to PCIEx16 GPU Adapter Mod Project!
srs2236 replied to zex4's topic in Sager & Clevo
Good job! You don't need an inf mod because it behaves exactly the same as desktop GPU's do. You only need inf mods for MXM because they work a bit different with the Device ID's and such. (my speculation) Now you just need to figure out a way how to make it hot-plug =D Having an adapter permanently stuck to your PC is kinda shitty. You could use some external connector for the PCI-E lanes and then have a hotswap system for your PC. When in need just plug in couple cables and have an eGPU ready! But this needs some serious consideration. I tried once with 2 HDMI connectors and the latest HDMI cable (HDMI 2.1a) and while it worked it gave me PCI-E corrected WHEA errors like crazy because the wires I used were not the same length. It was for PCI-E 3.0 4x. For 8x you would need 4HDMI connectors xD I think so atleast. -
That sounds like something I need!! Do you have to be registered on taobao to see the link?

Hi! I think the difference between them is the base BIOS used for them. 0511 being the older one and 0716 being a newer one. Check between stock ones from Clevo if they have these BIOS revision numbers.
-
The CPU draws more power because it doesn't enter power saving modes. To put simply, the voltage supplied to the CPU doesn't change and is static unless it is throttling or something like that. All of the above means more power draw when idle, some tasks that might have drawn very little power might draw a lot for no particular reason and the CPU on average runs hotter. This can help with stability though. Even when doing heavy undervolting.

Hi! It is normal behaviour when flashing custom BIOS. After many flashes it is blank for me aswell. I am interested in trying to put them back, so if I ever tinker around and make it work I will let you know! Do you have a backup of your old stock BIOS? If you send me that one it could help me aswell.

My PC shuts itself off if I unplug the power cord xD The battery is only good for sleep mode lol. I am not sure why this is happening but I assumed it could have something to do with the fact that I am running a 9900KS and increased voltage for my RAM to 1.45v. But yeah, my 775 just can't provide enough power from the battery to even keep the damn thing alive.

Clevo N960Kx (N960KR) Thread - BIOS Unlock, cooling mods, etc.
srs2236 replied to kaz26's topic in Sager & Clevo
What did you do? You can download HWInfo to see what PCI-E speeds you are running your SSDs at and many other things about your laptop.
