  1. Okay mine is the opposite, all cores run cool except 1 p-core. I’m gonna remove AW element 31” then and go with ptm7950. I don’t use tcc offset, my scores are already way higher than these other youtubers. Luckily tcc is optional. The cooling system is fine but same issue as last decade, the stock paste job is crap. gives me hope I can tame this 1 p-core then my cpu will run full speed 24/7 😎
  2. Figured I’d ask y’all this with 13th-gen CPUs. so right now one of my p-cores hits 100c while the rest of the laptop cores are like high 80s to low 90s. AW uses “element 31” a mixture of liquid metal and paste on their cpu/gpu. i am thinking of removing it and using ptm7950 phase change pads which have given me good results in other laptops. my question is, will it fix it? I heard 13th gen has a issue with this and repasting won’t help. What are the core differentials y’all are seeing?
  3. Official cards for 3D support are 580M, 560M, and 460M: One secret is...675M = 580M it's just a rebrand. You can run the 675M in M17xR3 but need to flash vBIOS to 580M to enable 3D: https://www.ebay.com/itm/234599878542?hash=item369f3e0f8e:g:U6EAAOSwwsJitSZU&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAwLb3mYxs2HMXLJXKCSpaf3ae9Q7TmQXenxzUj5s1bBljSp0UGfVrHLVwb3AUdSJNAf6YW0RBYhLp52lR8tdUeSTdfjy%2BTf3g65AUgKkGcIlfdfRPd3nhbawvcOrxS6y89lyCFGeOasjmdWrE9jzxTSdqwFnk6PwDVB0ToCkVl2yACGeRYVwUIp1SW%2FuqjLlSe8%2B3w1lmbPEPaCHwkb5En8nKKZOAuyfpOWF2N8PHUMzUDDFlPbXsn8WJZxj8Sd%2Bdkw%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR8jH7-7sYQ 560M: https://www.ebay.com/itm/334798073347?hash=item4df3852e03:g:hW8AAOSw6CdkF5lW&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAwGZNPh89KBlXDI%2FAqrllZwnwy48HyaRxRrs0Ah0wqfJFuA7qKL2Sq5%2FbvmUKzeVAlioAiCtfD2DUFYj36pPNESeGxxrKDFJmoiARaVYFruKJ0GG%2FQHVW3LudvXNeGr93y8%2FzZXfSRiJrPBGiVyTHLvePAuVYqpbFgGBiy41YEYa7BTHGTXwtlJKkNn0TEW%2FQAOWqeaG%2B%2FTY%2FSjkzPQzRdt3FS4o57ze7vD%2FWxLJ9wtIjTPVm%2FH2FPjllGwCwNDyTvg%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR8TA5e7sYQ 460M: https://www.ebay.com/itm/334798061753?hash=item4df38500b9:g:38gAAOSw2r1kF5YA&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAwH8Nkjmg5K47rsIEz5PZ1FoTvLLtYEvBUTCm5%2BIzUjL9AASRNU6tfYPt55wxAMq2ie09HMmhqnUAtvSmRwKzBgodb0szZJE6Cca9LLmN4RX0Z7sM5qpXtmpZ4ELq15F874YuP9kTAF1TjIhPUx0t8NICAJcU4mOgfXHzs2v1ebLVzY32%2FRnt3F4eE%2B1j0X6kVkXRUiqVoeoTgReEwQ5btLHAz9%2BGr0nW%2BsgubT8HfRPoAZaNpwP%2F3itDJPot5%2FGdoQ%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR8yx6O7sYQ If you don't care about 3D support and are fine using the display without 3D, try and find a cheap 880M, 780M, or 680M for maximum performance
  4. Interesting, I will have to test that out because in my testing, a clean install scored really well. M btw do you have any pics during the disassembly? Not sure how much I need to disassemble yet to get to the heatsink Review is out...
  5. Hope everyone finds it useful. Only two things I really want to emphasize: Audio is good BUT can be so much better. It needs a subwoofer and you will hear the difference when I compare it to the previous flagships! The overheating problem is real, BUT it is mostly an issue on 1-2 P-Cores for most people. The whole CPU is not overheating but just a core or two. This unfortunately will require a repaste to fix. Undervolting does help a lot and form BIOS 1.6.0 you can UV through BIOS or XTU/Throttlestop. The 300 nit display is critized because competitors have 400-500 nit displays. Well, take a look at my 500 nit macbook compared to the 300 nit AW. Yes the Macbook is brighter but the actual difference in real life is not much. The AW display is a true 300 nit display (not under 300). It has has 100% DCI-P3 and 87% AdobeRGB color space which is excellent. The fan noise...when doing normal tasks, this thing is quiet! And I mean QUIET! Only when you game or put the CPU on high loads does the fans kick in. Even then, they don't go to 100%. I do show how 100% sounds and unless you are running both gpu & cpu to high loads, the fans normally never reach 100%. Overall, from the other laptops in 2023, the AW m18 is the best "all around" laptop. It's cheaper than the MSI & Razer Blade models even without a coupon.
  6. If your old GPU is a 580M then most likely it has gone bad. 580M were known for going bad. 560M is more reliable and still allows using the 3D feature on the internal panel. I kept my 560M in case I ever want to go back to using 3D mode but right now I am using 880M as it's the fastest GPU for M17xR3.
  7. I'm not locking it. It's doing that on its own. I just max out all the power limits and fans. If you truly aren't thermal throttling you should be reaching my scores easily
  8. I currently have 1 P-core causing 100c issue. Most of my cores are in the low 80s. This tells me a re-paste should fix my issue. I am currently working on my review video, once I am done, I will give it a shot. Might even make a disassembly video. The evolution of 18 series:
  9. How long did it take? I'm thinking of just doing this to mine too. Why can't we use IPA wipes? I've cleaned LM on older laptops using IPA wipes before. New scores btw: Slowly making my way up. 8th place global 4090n FS and 28th TS
  10. Slowly making my way up. 8th place global 4090n FS and 28th TS
  11. I think AW meant well by putting Liquid Metal on CPU/GPU but in this case, paste would have been a better choice or ptm7950 phase change pads due to uneven heatsinks most likely. Since @win32asmguy m18 died from trying to re-paste I'm going to wait and see how others fair before opening mine up. My PTM7958 phase change paste came in
  12. Are you on BIOS 1.6.0? Your CPU seems to be thermal throttling quite a lot, this is why the score is low.
  13. Now that's a familiar name/avatar. Do a -100mV undervolt. then make sure your fans are 100% (might need to do custom profile in AWCC) and try again
  14. Wow horrible pricing. I got my fully loaded laptop for $3254 after tax which I think is a decent pricing considering its specs. I did have a 15% off coupon that helped a lot but those dell precisions costing that much is definitely not worth it. Same with razer blade/msi laptops with 4090. All overpriced.
  15. GPU scores 24k overclocked properly so it can get above 3090Ti levels. 23k is quite easy to achieve. I haven't messed around with gpu OC much yet since I am tuning CPU. 20k CPU is already better than most people's stock 13900hx and mine is stock on stock paste. OC should get 21-22k hopefully. Only Prema seems to have 22k so far but power limits/current limits are unlocked on AW so I don't see why I couldn't break 21k or higher by OC.
  16. Stock paste, here's some more. Goal is to catch up to Prema who is running a custom bios:
  17. Undervolt, max power/current limits. , max fans. ~32k is normal for 100c 13900HX Here's some more scores:
  18. Yes this seems to be the issue: 1. Embedded DisplayPort (eDP) is supported on DP_D only. If I remember correctly, AW eDP is DP_C not DP_D so yes it won't work, unless this is a vBIOS only issue. But if it's wired for DP_D as well then it requires hardware mod.
  19. Tried in 3 different laptops. the RAM reverts to 5200Mhz during post. Someone got it working in m16 for a few mins then crashed and reverted to 5200Mhz. I even bought two different kits so it's not the kit. Interestingly, the 5800Mhz 32GB Kit AW provided to notebookcheck seems to be working fine. Seems to be some issue with 64GB, 32GB runs fine at native speeds. I'm thinking I'll need to loosen timings, because idk how to do voltage yet. It's in the bios but it doesn't use standard numbers to change values so haven't figured it out yet. Laptop SODIMM apparently has much more limitations than desktop DDR5. But I know for a fact that 32GB 5600mHZ and 5800Mhz RAM is working fine.
  20. Guys need some RAM tuning help. So XMP tries to boot but it reverts to 5200mhz. It is 5600mhz RAM. I am able to change all timings using the RU.EFI bios mod method so I wanted to ask what timings should I try? here's my hwinfo ss. Right now it's on 5200mhz 38-37-37-73
  21. go to bios, look for pri plane and change to 800 also make sure power limits are increased, that should fix it
  22. Pic of the card? Looking at gpu-z this is a non g-sync card, so it should work with both 120hz and 60hz. Hardware programmer may allow flashing the vBIOS but other than that idk what's going on
  23. MXM was pretty standard up to 980M. I upgraded a M15x recently (260M gen) and the 980M was basically plug n play heatsink wise. Quadro's were also pretty standard (up to P5000). If you got lucky like me and found a official nVidia partner Quadro MXM like my RTX 3000, it was also standard and needed no mods. I saw the framework needed a new motherboard to go from 12th-gen to 13th-gen. To me this is not properly "upgradable" you are literally having to replace the whole motherboard. I could replace CPUs in my older laptops. It's a nice concept but unless the whole industry accepts it and mobile CPUs go PGA again, this ain't going anywhere far.
  24. Good score. RTX 3000 is a good upgrade for these older systems. Performs well and pairs well for the 4-core CPU.
  25. Do you have a pic? What is the device id in gpu-z?
