Difference is device ID. I can install using either id on nvcleaninstall but doesn't make difference for throttling issue. There seems to be some weird incompatibility with Aw18 and Aetina/Adlink/PNY cards. HP cards don't have this issue.

If you are planning on installing DuET you can use the optical drive bay to install a small SSD or HDD. In that drive you will install DuET. It is a bootloader. Then you can put MXM NVMe adapter in slot 2 and install windows onto that drive. Yes unlocked BIOS for M18xR1 is needed

M17xR4 and AW 17 R1 both should work fine with Pascal cards using 120hz 3D display. The 2 keys needed: 1) PURE UEFI mode only! This means Windows must be installed with Legacy Option ROMs also turned off. 2) vBIOS must have eDP support under the DisplayPort_C channel. Some vBIOS has under DP_D some are DP_C but DP_C is required to have eDP support. This means RTX card such as HP RTX 3000-5000 MAY work depending on vBIOS if you can find one with eDP support on DP_C. This also means cards like 9XXM/10XX series should work fine since there are so many vBIOS available. (for 9XX/10XX series, AW vBIOS probably works best but you can try and experiment). having a programmer makes things much easier to flash.

You can run duet on the ssd in the odd to hdd caddy, then it will allow you to boot from the NVMe adapter. OR if you want, get a usb adapter for the pcie slot and put a small usb drive in there to install duet. Duet allows you to boot UEFI/NVMe using legacy bios

You can run the latest BIOS for M18xR1 which adds M.2 support but I don't think you will be able to boot from it.

Backup the vBIOS and try flashing several 6600m XT vBIOS. You can also try desktop 6600 xt vBIOS. SG mode is probably only hope...all these newer cards don't support eDP/LVDS I flashed A4500 like 20 times and 970M like 50 times, they should be fine with flashing through programmer.

Starting with windows 10 this doesn't matter. You can go to windows settings and choose the high performance gpu now. I would look into modifying AMD drivers @aldarxt

From the picture you posted of device manager, it seems the gpu driver itself is fine just not the software? Why not ignore the software for now and try running a 3d application to see what happens?

He may run into an issue with the 970M in primary slot being used for all rendering instead of the RTX 5000. Some games allow you to choose but it would be an interesting test to see if PEG boots with 970M in primary and RTX 5000 in secondary.

Nice job! I still firmly believe these laptops can work with 980M/970M also M5000M/M4000M but need vBIOS or BIOS mod. Personally the 8970M and 880M have been the fastest GPUs I've gotten working in these. 8970M has gotten quite the boost over the years thanks to drivers. If of course you were thinking of getting a faster GPU. -
Resistor mod didn't help in my case. Still get "temperature limit" and TDP drops to 40W instead of 80W. I tried flashing vBIOS using NVFLASH and using programmer but neither work. Programmer doesn't recognize vBIOS chip.

Well I know of the RTX 4090 (Quadro version) MXM card from Aetina so I'm sure there were other 3080 MXMs out there that we haven't seen. RTX 3080 Mobile scores around 30k in FireStrike GPU score my 200w RTX2080 in Area-51m R1 scores 29K in FS If that 6600 XT is desktop class it will be an interesting performer. But personally I've had worse luck compatibility wise with AMD Cards (RX 580, W7170M, etc.) working in our MXM laptops vs nVidia versions. I wish you good luck and hope you get the card soon so we can see some results 😁

Run 3dmark firestrike and show us the result. I’m assuming you also need to do the resistor mod. I just did it today on my 18 although it didn’t help against adlink RTX 3000 it should help with hp RTX 5000

I will be doing the resistor mod on Monday most likely. Will be done in AW 18 but same process probably for 17 R1. The fact that M17xR4/M18xR2 do not have issues with the same cards points to the resistor mod as our only hope to fix this. I will take some pics of the process and hopefully not break my 18 lol @ÊtaPegasus if you have a programmer, you can backup your RTX 3000 vBIOS and try flashing HP RTX 3000 vBIOS and see if that fixes it. You can always flash back using programmer so make sure you make backup first (assuming you have a programmer and are comfortable doing it). If not you can wait until next week for my results. When they work properly...:

If you decide to build extras in the future maybe some members here wouldn't mind buying some. Single monoblock that fits and lets us close the chassis like oem would be nice

If you can find ANY i7 motherboard, you should get it as they are rare, at least in US. You can probably buy the chassis itself from eBay or Aliexpress and build one from the ground up like I did or use as many parts as you can interchange.

@Maxware79 must see this post as well 🙂 I'm going to try and see if I can do that resister mod on AW 18 (r3) and see if it solves RTX 3000 issue

Yes they blamed it on resizable bar for not working but I don't think that was the issue. If you can implement resizable bar in M18xR2 & AW18 BIOS let me know, I can try testing the BIOS.
