  1. I just replied to your PM. But for anyone else who wants to me brought up to speed. I recommended RTX series GPU for max performance or P5000/P4000. He already has 3940XM CPU so CPU is good to go. I recommended 32GB 2133Mhz RAM because it benefits Optimus having higher RAM speed. He mentioned MXM to NVMe adapter which for the right price is worth it especially if you want to future proof the system. Also recommended Wi-Fi 6E Mini PCIe card. I think that covers most of the upgrades aside from updating the BIOS to the latest custom one.
  2. I think he was referring to framework laptops. I would be surprised if any other manufacturer returns to LGA or PGA/MXM.
  3. At the time it was $2,500. Aetina ships worldwide if you want to get it from them. They have newer Ada Lovelace RTX cards now too. Yes I also tried looking for above 4g decode but never found it. Editing vBIOS is tricky because Quadro vBIOS is encrypted and signed. If it is modded the card won't boot. HP/Dell/Lenovo vBIOS allows card to boot but upon driver install I got code 43 error. This is most likely due to vBIOS and card id not matching. One theory I had was find a way to remove the device id. On desktop cards, even with MXM used in PCIe adapter, there is no unique device id added from the pc. In our laptops there is unique device id added to the mxm card. This is also why we need to modify INF everytime but on desktop there is no need to modify INF.
  4. You can buy from Aetina but it's very expensive. It's possible to enable resizable bar in bios using this module. But I am not good at BIOS editing. It's same way NVMe support was added. https://github.com/xCuri0/ReBarUEFI/wiki/Enabling-hidden-4G-decoding https://github.com/xCuri0/ReBarUEFI The module might have been enough to make it work but I didn't know how to add to bios. Maybe if I still had the card it would be possible. We need someone to modify AW 18 R1, AW 17 R1, M18xR2, M17xR4 bios to inject that uefi module. Then it might work with stock vBIOS.
  5. The embedded RTX 3000 (Adlink, Aetina, PNY, etc.) probably does not have eDP support in DP_C channel I believe it was. Might have better luck with HP RTX 3000
  6. This is what I saw from California...
  7. I have 880m SLI in M18xR1 and 880m in M17xR3 all working fine. get whichever GPU is cheaper. I got mine for $110-130 shipped each so for me was better to get 880m. As long as you run them stock and not overclock and overvolt they work fine.
  8. One or both of your GPUs are bad. Personally I put 880m SLI in my M18xR1 because I got them for cheap. But I recommend getting nVidia GPUs. Unless you can find 8970M Crossfire for cheap to replace.
  9. Press FN+F7 (once all other drivers are installed) to switch from iGPU mode to dGPU mode.
  10. Yes I haven't had a chance to flash the bios with a programmer. After a windows update it stopped posting, already tried everything except flash bios with programmer. if anyone wants the laptop as is (16gb ram but everything included) they can have it for $800 shipped.
  11. I sent you mine on discord. It looks similar to both of yours. Just added capacitor behind the original and bridged them
  12. Difference is device ID. I can install using either id on nvcleaninstall but doesn't make difference for throttling issue. There seems to be some weird incompatibility with Aw18 and Aetina/Adlink/PNY cards. HP cards don't have this issue.
  13. If you are planning on installing DuET you can use the optical drive bay to install a small SSD or HDD. In that drive you will install DuET. It is a bootloader. Then you can put MXM NVMe adapter in slot 2 and install windows onto that drive. Yes unlocked BIOS for M18xR1 is needed
  14. M17xR4 and AW 17 R1 both should work fine with Pascal cards using 120hz 3D display. The 2 keys needed: 1) PURE UEFI mode only! This means Windows must be installed with Legacy Option ROMs also turned off. 2) vBIOS must have eDP support under the DisplayPort_C channel. Some vBIOS has under DP_D some are DP_C but DP_C is required to have eDP support. This means RTX card such as HP RTX 3000-5000 MAY work depending on vBIOS if you can find one with eDP support on DP_C. This also means cards like 9XXM/10XX series should work fine since there are so many vBIOS available. (for 9XX/10XX series, AW vBIOS probably works best but you can try and experiment). having a programmer makes things much easier to flash.
  15. You can run duet on the ssd in the odd to hdd caddy, then it will allow you to boot from the NVMe adapter. OR if you want, get a usb adapter for the pcie slot and put a small usb drive in there to install duet. Duet allows you to boot UEFI/NVMe using legacy bios
  16. You can run the latest BIOS for M18xR1 which adds M.2 support but I don't think you will be able to boot from it.
  17. Backup the vBIOS and try flashing several 6600m XT vBIOS. You can also try desktop 6600 xt vBIOS. SG mode is probably only hope...all these newer cards don't support eDP/LVDS I flashed A4500 like 20 times and 970M like 50 times, they should be fine with flashing through programmer.
  18. Starting with windows 10 this doesn't matter. You can go to windows settings and choose the high performance gpu now. I would look into modifying AMD drivers @aldarxt
  19. From the picture you posted of device manager, it seems the gpu driver itself is fine just not the software? Why not ignore the software for now and try running a 3d application to see what happens?
  20. I can confirm Windows 10 and 11 work fine on M18xR2
  21. Do the resistor mod, it should fix the issue for you. here’s the one I bought : https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/IRC-TT-Electronics/ULRG2.5-2512-R004-F-LF-SLT?qs=o5%2FBfEwRdcu3G0v%2B03nkPQ%3D%3D
  22. He may run into an issue with the 970M in primary slot being used for all rendering instead of the RTX 5000. Some games allow you to choose but it would be an interesting test to see if PEG boots with 970M in primary and RTX 5000 in secondary.
  23. Nice job! I still firmly believe these laptops can work with 980M/970M also M5000M/M4000M but need vBIOS or BIOS mod. Personally the 8970M and 880M have been the fastest GPUs I've gotten working in these. 8970M has gotten quite the boost over the years thanks to drivers. If of course you were thinking of getting a faster GPU.
  24. Resistor mod didn't help in my case. Still get "temperature limit" and TDP drops to 40W instead of 80W. I tried flashing vBIOS using NVFLASH and using programmer but neither work. Programmer doesn't recognize vBIOS chip.
