  1. Guys need some RAM tuning help. So XMP tries to boot but it reverts to 5200mhz. It is 5600mhz RAM. I am able to change all timings using the RU.EFI bios mod method so I wanted to ask what timings should I try? here's my hwinfo ss. Right now it's on 5200mhz 38-37-37-73
  2. go to bios, look for pri plane and change to 800 also make sure power limits are increased, that should fix it
  3. Pic of the card? Looking at gpu-z this is a non g-sync card, so it should work with both 120hz and 60hz. Hardware programmer may allow flashing the vBIOS but other than that idk what's going on
  4. MXM was pretty standard up to 980M. I upgraded a M15x recently (260M gen) and the 980M was basically plug n play heatsink wise. Quadro's were also pretty standard (up to P5000). If you got lucky like me and found a official nVidia partner Quadro MXM like my RTX 3000, it was also standard and needed no mods. I saw the framework needed a new motherboard to go from 12th-gen to 13th-gen. To me this is not properly "upgradable" you are literally having to replace the whole motherboard. I could replace CPUs in my older laptops. It's a nice concept but unless the whole industry accepts it and mobile CPUs go PGA again, this ain't going anywhere far.
  5. Good score. RTX 3000 is a good upgrade for these older systems. Performs well and pairs well for the 4-core CPU.
  6. Do you have a pic? What is the device id in gpu-z?
  7. This shows why the temps aren't the greatest. Look at that cpu die... Aiming for 36k:
  8. Very nice, but only ~11% faster at best than rtx 4000. I think rtx 5000 is the best upgrade so far (21k score)
  9. it's on eBay. Unfortunately it sold already.
  10. Unfortunately some of the cpu cores are overheating so the score is still low. Need to repaste with something like ptm7950 to fix the core differentials of 10c.
  11. It's a stock run. Trying to get stock performance working properly, then I'll try OC As for memory my new 5600mhz sticks don't boot. A few people claim it's working for them, so I am getting replacement sticks just in case mine were bad.
  12. Ugh just realized I need benchmate for the bot, here's a nice score. Still with 4800mhz ram Monterey is 2 hrs away from me lol
  13. There are plenty of bootloaders so csm isn't an issue. I was more curious on if the chipset drivers all install normally or there's a custom chipset driver somewhere.
  14. Woah what I miss about iunlock I need to start submitting stuff to hwbot
  15. Interesting, that gets me excited. So from your testing, how high were you able to push ddr5 at the stock 1.1v? Would be cool to hit at least 6000mhz. If I cannot, I want to see if I can at least lower timings at stock clocks and voltage. Here's the hidden options (no idea if they will work): there's also "dynamic memory boost" and "realtime memory frequency" options
  16. Funny you mention that, the m18 has a 4th fan specifically inside, pushing air to the RAM lol From what I can see online, 5600Mhz is the fastest SODIMM available. One reasoning apperently is there is some flaw with DDR5 SODIMM in design that doesn't let it hit 6000mhz or something? Idk, desktop RAM starting with DDR4 surpassed laptop speeds and DDR5 is making it worse. I remember DDR3 on laptops was basically on par with desktop speeds.
  17. People have the 32GB (2x16GB) kit running at 5600mhz and the 64gb (2x32gb) kit running at 5200mhz out of the box on alienware m18. Since I found how to modify the hidden values in bios I should be able to run 5600mhz on the 64gb kit. AW claims it supports up to 5800mhz RAM so maybe I can OC, we'll see
  18. Interesting, I will take a look at both RAM modules tomorrow. I assume the markings on the IC chips should tell me which die they are?
  19. Yes so-dimm. We've figured out how to "turn on and off" hidden options in BIOS so XMP should at least work. (the bios has an insane amount of hidden options including memory tuning so we are hoping to unlock these options) Timings should be at least the same if not better than the 4800mhz ram kit so hoping to boost the cpu scores.
  20. Question on RAM... Will DDR5 5600Mhz CL40 make a nice difference over 4800Mhz CL40 on 13th gen? Looking at timespy/fire strike cpu score, cinebench r23, etc. I mean I already ordered the RAM LOL just was curious BTW how is everyone getting windows 7 working on 13th gen? Is it just turning on CSM? I would assume drivers aren't easily available.
  21. I'm still on BIOS 1.5.0 om my Area-51m R1 (they're at like 1.12 or 1.14 or something now) I will do the same on m18 if they decide to pull some stuff on us. TCC offset is optional so far and has been on previous models too. There are a lot of options in m18 bios that are hidden so hopefully we figure out how to unlock them. Man now I am debating on whether I want to do mines.
  22. M11xR3/M14xR2/M17xR4/M18xR2 was their "peak" generation for sure. m18 has similar build quality to Area-51m , which is why I bought it. No other AW between Area-51m to m18 gen came close. Every laptop I've dealt with has issues at launch. This time around it seems while they meant good by using liquid metal, it actually made things worse for us due to bad contact. Other than that, everything else is not bad. Screen is very good despite people complaining 300nits, performance is right there with the top scores except for CPU overheaing. I even have UV working now and XMP looks like it will be perfectly fine too. What happen? This definitely doesn't make me wanna do it to mine now lol
  23. Unfortunately there's no gaming laptop that doesn't require some sort of tweaking for proper performance, not even Clevo. Yeah for now we are working on unlocking options in bios. We got UV working. XMP is next and hopefully hidden menus. 10c core difference ain't getting fixed with UV. Will need phase change pad for that.
  24. It's not about getting a "better unit" I can even tune my friends m18 and get similar results. I even found a way to unlock UV in bios so prepare for even better numbers. This is where the difference between an enthusiast will start to show 😃
