I am not sure maybe @ViktorV can tell you. i was gonna remove the edp cable to see if it’ll show bios on external display, but after seeing I need to open up basically everything I gave up on it. Right now if I put in a SSD with windows it’ll show image on external display after booting to windows.

Let's be honest here. We've been screwed by all the manufacturers throughout the years. Look at Alienware with their Area-51m R1. The R2 gpus could have been compatible but they def purposely built it not to be compatible. Clevo...imagine buying a X170SM-G then when the 11 series came out, having to buy a new X170KM despite they being almost identical (besides chipset). Next year I would be surprised if we get anything with removable components. Maybe a Clevo with LGA socket only but I doubt we will get MXM. The time is finally here where everything will basically be BGA. I am looking into getting a X170SM/KM just to own the last clevo with lga/mxm. Just like I own the last AWs with sockets (AW18, M18xR1/R2, Area-51m). I haven't been a fan of the Alienwares after AW14/17/18 gen but the X14 was kinda nice. I expect this 18" to take the X series design. They need a Mini LED or OLED display for this and a damn subwoofer for audio again.

I think I will get this day 1. upgradable laptops are pretty much dead, not even Clevo has MXM anymore most likely next year. I really hope this has a 4k display option (mini led or oled) and I hope they include a subwoofer because their 17” model audio is lacking without one. Hope we get some more details soon.

Does the X170KM have unlocked bios? I know the SM has Prema Mod

Make sure you are on unlocked bios. Go to bios and look for video configuration. Change from PEG to SG. Then try again

Can GTX 980 + Heatsink from P870DM fit and work inside a P870DM3?

I may be getting my P870DM back from my friend. He had flashed the dsanke bios a long time ago and messed up the audio board. We had flashed it back to my Prema Mod but of course audio board is shot. he unfortunately threw away the audio board and ribbon cables. I am looking to see if anyone has a P870DM for parts or anyone knows where to buy these parts:

I’ve owned P570WM, P870DM, P870DM3. main difference between P870DM3 vs P870TM is that TM supports RTX 20 series and 8/9th gen CPUs officially. P870DM3 requires bios mod and I believe heatsink mod to use rtx 20 series.

These allow you to run a NVMe SSD in your MXM slot. They will run at full PCIe 3.0 X4 speed. One SSD any size from 2242 to 2280. I have personally used SK Hynix 1TB & Samsung 980 Pro 1TB. Others have used various other brands, 2TB models as well. NOTE: FOR ALIENWARE SYSTEMS, these cards will drain power and add SSD hours even when laptop is off. On M18xR2 this isn't too much of an issue since the battery is easy to remove, not so much on aw18. CLEVO users: Works and tested in P570WM & P870DM series. NO POWER DRAIN issue on Clevo systems. For Clevo, these cards are identical to V3 Rev 10.0. The newer cards were made to fix power drain in Alienware systems. MSI users: No one has complained about power drain so for now it should not drain power. YOUR BIOS MUST SUPPORT NVMe DRIVES! I HAVE BIOS FOR M18XR2 AND AW18 POSTED IN AW CLUB. P870DM natively works with NVMe drives. P570WM will require latest Prema Mod from Prema. They work in basically any Clevo that has dual mxm slots and supports NVMe. All P870DM will work with it, even P570WM will work with latest Prema mod.

The computers I am testing with support GP106 mxm card because they also do video output through integrated graphics. I wonder if in this case I should try flashing A4500 as RTX 3070Ti from Alienware vBIOS? I will also test card in Clevo P870DM as well. I cannot find any mxm pcie x16 cards on eBay, only the x1 model.

All 18s are LVDS. I was told by someone that even in Optimus the MXM card needs either LVDS support OR eDP support in order to work in Optimus mode. Might make sense since this is the first MXM card without eDP support that I’ve tried.

So when I flash the HP/Dell vBIOS it posts fine because vBIOS has eDP definition but core is not wired? That’s why it has code 43 error? or I still need to modify original vBIOS for eDP definition because HP/Dell vBIOS is too different?

Battery is fine. It’s from my M4800 which works perfectly fine with battery. It’s most likely motherboard , either way I sold the M4600.

Now that gpu-z is updated for a4500, my gpu-z looks exactly like this pic. So does it mean it has desktop core? Or it's because no eDP support?

Only 660m & 680m will give you 3D in this laptop. Only official cards that shipped with the laptop will allow internal 3d support. Any GPU not originally shipped with laptop will not allow you to use 3d. I keep my 560m for M17xR3 if I decide to go back to 3D but with my 880m there is no 3d support.
