  1. Wait we can enable Optimus on X170SM-G?? 😄
  2. I ended up with: i5 10600K 8GB RAM 256GB SSD 1080p 144Hz display RTX 2070 Super I have 16GB RAM and 2x 512gb NVMe SSDs laying around I’ll add to the system. not looking to max it out since I wanna see what the 18” laptops coming out next year will pack.
  3. Oh it’s really coming out, don’t worry. 😉 btw @ViktorV where is this clevo bios unlocker? May need it for my x170sm-g next week.
  4. Anyone here plan to upgrade to Sapphire Rapids HEDT platform Q1 2023 (also known as fishhawk falls W790 chipset). kinda excited HEDT is coming back from Intel. Still rocking 10980XE 18-Core.
  5. For me I will wait for Alienware X18. Rumor says 13900HX 24-Core CPU (same config as desktop 13900k less clocks) and rtx 4090 mobile (around desktop rtx 3090 ti performance possibly) X170 series is last Clevo with LGA/MXM combo Area-51m R2 is last AW with LGA/DGFF 18 R1/M18xR2 last 18.4” with lga mobile cpu/mxm 3.0b now we are soldered only in 2023
  6. To be fair laptops keeping up with desktops haven’t exactly been a thing, especially if you’ve owned HEDT class desktops + Ti/Titan class GPUs. for example, my Titan Xp from 2017 (I had the X from 2016 as well which performed around 29k fs gpu) has over a 32k fs score: https://www.3dmark.com/fs/21628074 4-5 years later a RTX 3080 is scoring 30-32k in fs gpu score according to scores from NBC clevo 3080/alienware 3080 fs score. I think the main thing we all liked was doing things like upgrading cpu to higher spec or gpu to newer gen. we were never able to upgrade any lga laptop cpu to newer gen in same socket. Desktop lga with 6-9 series on z170 was the best upgrade gen. For example 2920xm to 3920xm isn’t possible without new motherboard. 3920xm to 4930mx isn’t possible without new mb. Z170 allowed 6-9 gen with pin mod/bios but the cpu gen itself was still skylake. Z490 clevo is stuck 10th gen and needed new mb too. for gpus we have had the opportunity to upgrade from the 6 series all the way to rtx 20 series (in my case from 680m sli to rtx 3000) which is probably biggest gpu gen upgrade [ 5 mobile gens] MXM was probably the best thanks to these large gen upgrade possibilities. if you’re seen the new clevo it’s all bga and a770m gpu which is weaker than the older laptops. we’re basically screwed for lga/mxm laptops now unless amd pulls a miracle. bga is unfortunately here to stay with every single manufacturer. Sad days indeed as I’ve pushed my socketed laptops as far as I could. having a rtx 3000 gpu and mxm nvme ssd in a 2012 laptop was the best.
  7. Why is physics score so low? Even my 10 year old m18x r2 beats both gpu/cpu scores. my bga x14 gets 25k cpu on auto fans and that’s with thermal throttle lol https://www.3dmark.com/fs/28868583 heres the details: https://www.clevo.com.tw/clevo_prodetail.asp?id=1608&lang=en
  8. So no nvidia gpus? Is it 17.3” or 18”?
  9. Ah yes as I expected, it adds up. If I went same route my system would also have been expensive (a little less since I do have the P870DM for parts). you’ll like it, it was a fun system. I am excited to play with x170sm-g. Hoping the sound system blows away my 18” alienwares and old p870 series, but realistically it’ll probably be around the same, maybe a bit better.
  10. How much was your total cost so far? and what are the full specs?
  11. Nope. There is no iGPU support in P870 series, it’s not physically wired. only dGPU mode is possible
  12. I can’t because I can’t see the bios screen. Don’t want to risk something going wrong then I can’t see. I don’t think it’s worth putting 1060 in here. It has a 200w GTX 980 with Prema vBIOS which should outperform the 1060.
  13. No. Prema bios is based on original firmware. It does not support 8th gen+ CPUs.
  14. Price: $old Condition: Used Warranty: N/A Reason for sale: Went back to my Titan V Payment: Paypal Shipping: I'll cover shipping to US48 International shipping: Possibly Handling time: 2 Business Days Feedback: https://www.heatware.com/u/73221/to https://www.ebay.com/fdbk/feedback_profile/ssj92?filter=feedback_page:All I wanted to do NVLink (with my 1st one I sold on eBay) but instead ended up getting a ASUS Hyper M.2 v2 card with 2xIntel 670p to try VROC. Don't need just one and my Titan V does everything I need for now and has 1GB more VRAM for 4K gaming. Card works good, blower cards are great (imo). Price is shipped to US48. Card is a bit dusty, I am the 2nd owner, and it came dusty. I blew it with compressed air and it looks better. Personally I prefer these over a RTX 3070. It benches higher than my MSI RTX 3070 triple slot and has more vram: https://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/26895750/fs/28691159/fs/26587549 https://www.3dmark.com/compare/spy/25250568/spy/24127527/spy/27316490
  15. I haz joined the X170SM-G club 😎
  16. Yes, even 9th gen can work but it would be highly recommended to upgrade VRMs if you do 9th gen i9. 8700k should work fine.
  17. 2560x1600 at 165hz/480hz with 100% dci-p3, that’s not bad. But was hoping for better especially brightness. as someone who has owned the 18.4” alienwares and clevo p870dm/dm3 models I can safely say they have the best audio out of any laptop i’ve tested. although my 16” m1 pro macbook pro has better sound than 99% laptops in a thin 16” form factor, so I expect a lot from a 18” alienware. i am kinda expecting really good audio from the x170sm if I end up buying it
  18. Let me know if you want it 🙂 rather sell here than to someone random on ebay (already getting the usual super low ball messages from ebay people lol)
  19. I am not sure maybe @ViktorV can tell you. i was gonna remove the edp cable to see if it’ll show bios on external display, but after seeing I need to open up basically everything I gave up on it. Right now if I put in a SSD with windows it’ll show image on external display after booting to windows.
  20. Let's be honest here. We've been screwed by all the manufacturers throughout the years. Look at Alienware with their Area-51m R1. The R2 gpus could have been compatible but they def purposely built it not to be compatible. Clevo...imagine buying a X170SM-G then when the 11 series came out, having to buy a new X170KM despite they being almost identical (besides chipset). Next year I would be surprised if we get anything with removable components. Maybe a Clevo with LGA socket only but I doubt we will get MXM. The time is finally here where everything will basically be BGA. I am looking into getting a X170SM/KM just to own the last clevo with lga/mxm. Just like I own the last AWs with sockets (AW18, M18xR1/R2, Area-51m). I haven't been a fan of the Alienwares after AW14/17/18 gen but the X14 was kinda nice. I expect this 18" to take the X series design. They need a Mini LED or OLED display for this and a damn subwoofer for audio again.
  21. Price: $old Condition: For parts Warranty: N/A Reason for sale: I am buying a X170SM-G instead of repairing this [not enough time for me to repair/lazy] Payment: Paypal Shipping: I'll cover shipping to US48 International shipping: Possibly Handling time: 2 Business Days Feedback: https://www.heatware.com/u/73221/to https://www.ebay.com/fdbk/feedback_profile/ssj92?filter=feedback_page:All I bought this laptop brand new from Eurocom in late 2015 on release. I sold it to my friend when I bought a P870DM-3. We traded this back for my dell precision and while I wanted to restore it, I am just lazy to do it. The laptop works as a desktop (once you add RAM/SSD with windows already installed). But in order to use as laptop you need the following: LCD (4K): https://www.blisscomputers.net/new-replacement-17-3-uhd-4k-3840x2160-lcd-screen-ips-led-display-lq173d1jw31-b173zan01-0-non-touch-fit-clevo-p870dm-998394/ Audio Board with ribbons: https://rjtech.com/shop/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=30663 The keyboard could use a replacement too (lights don't work due to ribbon cable being ripped) It's missing screws but will come with a bag full of screws. Battery barely holds a charge but it does last like 15-20 mins. It has my personal Prema Mod BIOS as well. Laptop currently has: i5 6600K CPU GTX 980 (desktop) GPU AX200 Wi-Fi Card 2x 330w ac adapters converter box for 2x 330w ac adapters Price is shipped to US48
  22. I think I will get this day 1. upgradable laptops are pretty much dead, not even Clevo has MXM anymore most likely next year. I really hope this has a 4k display option (mini led or oled) and I hope they include a subwoofer because their 17” model audio is lacking without one. Hope we get some more details soon.
  23. Sounds like 13900HX 24-Core BGA and RTX 4080Ti or 4090 (whatever they call it) doubt it’ll be a lga system but still exciting. I love the 18.4” screens and I hope it’s at least that size. https://www.notebookcheck.net/Alienware-s-18-inch-gaming-laptops-to-return-in-2023.672879.0.html
