Seeking recommendations on a new laptop!
Papusan replied to wardnine's topic in What Laptop Should I Buy?
Mostly all Intel or and AMD processors will throttle down clock speed if you run your laptop on battery. You can't run +100W Cpu load + powering the whole system on the battery. Have been like this many years. Lower clock speed = Lower performance. Read and learn..... Another Intel system......... The 115-watt power consumption - which is permitted over a longer period - was reached regularly. Additionally, 135 watts were permitted for fractions of a second. Only in "Silent" mode was power consumption limited to 30 watts while in battery mode even up to 45 watts were permitted. -

Yep. Here's a new one from the last couple of hours. I think Gamers Nexus will take a look a second round. Because this topic won't die in same way as the 12VHPWR connectors😁 Nice we have something to talk about, LOOL The 3rd or 4th for the day.... And the kids on reddit blaming the users. A minimal line of scratch on the connector and all will attack you for being an fool, HaHa The damn small stupid designed latch/hook is so weak and small that the tiny 12VHPWR connector will with time slowly slip out of from the GPU connector. You shouldn't need babysit your Pc if the components is designed/developed and manufactured correctly. But yeah... Always the users faulth, LOOL What a waste of money. 80-90K down the drain for almost no gains. Only for useless bling bling + stuff you don't need. Here is more stupidity........ Nvidia go cheaper but not on the prices. One tier down at the cost of possible more performance. Shrink the GPU boards max power to minimum will help your electricity bill but you won't gain more FPS. For enthusiasts and gamers, it is unfortunate to see the RTX 4060 being regulated to the AD107 die, with the performance potential it could have had with Nvidia's bigger AD106 die. But at least we are getting an incredibly efficient GPU that will be easy to power and cool. https://www.tomshardware.com/news/rtx-4060-will-use-smallest-ad-die In short... The gamers will get double up of everything that's bad. Lower performance due castrated TGP and lower tier GPU die (less cuda cores than previous gen). Can't beat the good offer from Nvidia, LOOL -

From what I have seen the last months.... There is 3 well known brands for custom cables/adapters as FASGEAR, MODDIY and CableMod. Most problems I have seen is coming from... Yep you gessed it, CableMods adapter/cables. CableMod reps say in short... The new 12VHPWR connector is trash. Only two of them in paralell or a redesign can fix this. This simple... You don't design a car the way a simple user error will and can crash the car. They recall the car if they see something that can be a problem forwards just to be safe. Edit. Forgot the ultimate fix. A forced firmware flash in new drivers that will cap the power below 400W😂 This would neve happen even in an ideal world. No one would take that costs. Even adding more connectors would increase the costs. I don't even dare think what a redesign, more connectors and validation would cost. And nvidia offer the AIC parners 5% margins? There was for a reason Evga jumped the GPU ship. -

4090FE supper from bad power phase cooling. You really need water vool the GPU if you intend to use the 600W power limits. Nvidia and their partners should cover every burned cards whatever adaper or cable you use. Their mess. They havs to clean up. Extra connection in the cable loop will add resistance. But not enough to make an difference. But no adapter will be better in any shape or form if the QC problems continue pop up. And pretty doesn't mean better. The adapter in the GPU packages is really good but not so pretty. Remember most people still use them. Or need them to game while they have sent back custom cables/adapter back to the shop due QC problems😀 -

Yep, I said the connector is fragile. This is PCI-sig and Intel design. Nvidia went cheapo and only went for 1 12VHPWR connecor to cut costs. The connector is badly designed. The engineer that made the final design should be fired. The ugly truth. I hour ago. CableMod milk money on the smoking mess. The only benefits is the prettier design and their warranty. But the warranty is paid from the increased costs(You buy new adapter for premium). 90 degree adapter melted.... -

Or just made the 12VHPWR bigger to take benefits from all the 12v lines from the 8pin connectors. Each 8pin connector offer 3x 12v lines. So total of 12x 12v pins from the 4x8-pin adapter. At least dual 12VHPWR connectors for the 4090. This would reduce the chance for smoke and fire. Current draw in 12 pins for balancing the power. Remember 3x 8pin offer 9x 12v rails. So no problem if you have a normal good quality PSU. But it would be worse if you used the cheaper ones that follow the 150W specs for 8-pin. Nvidia and their partners has to counter for cheapo PSUs. -

Papusan replied to Mr. Fox's topic in Desktop Hardware
Nvidia should have done as Galax. Dual 12VHPWR connectors as the HOF. Aka 12x 12v lines. But I expect Nvidia was afraid the sales would sink as a stone due not all have PSUs that offer enough 8 pin connectors. And double up with connectors and adapters increase costs. Remember the Nvidia 4x8pin adapter was needed due many of the older PSUs out there have thinner 12v wires (not every PSU maker uses 16g wire for their PCIe cables). A good quality PSU can output 300W from one single 8pin connector if they used thicker wire gauge. Nvidia has to counter on for 150w from the 8pin connector. Aka they would need 4x8pin connectors. So the next best would be going the Galax route (1200W). Here's a new one from today.... The same thing happened to me today. 4090 Tuf, 90 degree adapter. Then you have same QC problems rolling from CableMod... Don't throw away your ugly old adapter from the GPU package. A lifesaver for gamers, HaHa -

Because the 90 degrees adapters looks much prettier in the Pc-box. And you reduce the bend (2nd, 3rd or 4th reason we see melted 12VHPWR connectors). And not all come defective from CableMod😀@electrosoft😁 https://hwbot.org/submission/5279677_papusan_3dmark03_geforce_gtx_980_271450_marks?recalculate=true https://hwbot.org/submission/5279673_papusan_3dmark05_geforce_gtx_980_109735_marks?recalculate=true -

Here's todays Sunday Joke. 4060Ti should really perform more like the older 3070(Ti) from previous gen graphics cards. Both have same 8GB vram buffer. My sons 3070 3DM Speed Way score is around 25% higher. Can't beat new and modern. New has to be better newer, LOOL RTX 4060 Ti Beats RX 7600 In Early Generic Benchmarks Compare my 3070@4000 3DM Speed Way score with this utter mess and you can clearly see how bad value you get with the low/mid end 4000 series cards. And the 8GB vram buffer doesn't make it any better. Even if the bench results is slightly better than this taster, it will and should give the new buyers of this scam a bad taste in their mouth. Not a good feeling, feeeling you are scammed! Then you have the prices for this new and shiny. I have to pay $500/550 USD or above for a brand new custom Nvidia 8GB graphics card in 2023. And that brand new Nvidia card can't even run 1080P at max settings. If you want Ultra setting then you'll have to pay close to $650 for the 4060Ti@16GB card here home. Yep, $650 for a 4060Ti ain't far away from the $699 suggested price for the 3080@10GB 4K flagship card from 2 years ago. Nice. Yep, Nvidia don't need help from the miners anymore. They get the needed help from stupid buyers. And we know they are out there waiting for this card. Gigabyte’s custom GeForce RTX 4060 Ti cards are priced from $400 to $470 Then we have this from Sapphire. Castrate the card to make the price more appealing. This is just dumb. One thing for sure. Intel want some of the gaming chips sales.... AMD's Ryzen 7 7800X3D Selling Nearly Twice as Fast as 5800X3D in Some Regions And this one is for you bro @Ashtrix https://www.pcgamer.com/you-know-m2-ssds-suck-right/ Yup, most likely their QC problems. Some even get their new CableMod cables with small sense wires dingle in the free air.... Aka easier to catch. I opened my case up and this small sense wire from my 12vhpwr was just dangling there. This isn't supposed to be free right? CableMod/reddit -

Multi tile design and Intel offer a huge stack of Cpu's. Don't expect we will see all variants this early. And why didn't AMD go with more cores when they changed to smaller node? And why went Nvidia with a smaller die with less Cuda cores for their low/mid range 4000 graphics chips? Better margins/higher profits? Melting 4090 and CableMod. JayzTwoCents and Gamers Nexus Response. Blame NVidia or User? And Northridgefix have loads of cards to fix, LOOL -

The baby core race start heating up. More E-cores bro @Mr. Fox @Ashtrix Loads of baby cores. And from both Intel and AMD. Intel may lead on with 3 different types cores. Two types baby cores and the rest is a few Performance cores. More is better? Huuu? Intel Meteor Lake 16-Core, 14-Core CPUs Surface In New Benchmarks Intel continues to go down the hybrid path with Meteor Lake. Meteor Lake, which features a multi-tile design, will employ Redwood Cove performance cores (P-cores) to handle heavy workloads while saving the Cresmont efficient cores (E-cores) for simpler tasks. The design allows for maximizing performance without sacrificing power consumption. However, Meteor Lake may feature a third type of core, presently rumored as the LP E-cores (low-power efficient cores). Meteor Lake will arrive for both laptop and desktop formats but presumably on the former first. AMD's Ryzen will follow Intel's lead with hybrid cores 4080 is rarely affected. One of the very few and on top with the CableMod adapter. Hmmm, CableMod feels they need to go out with firefighting. PCI-sig with help of Intel developed and designed a disaster of power connector. I wonder whom came up with the great idea that this new connector had to be so dams small and fragile. “Same here unfortunately” but with 4080, just waiting on support to reply on Monday. Good luck and it hope it works out -

Remember the CPU blocks in and output design ain't always similar designed. Depends on the WB brands. In worst case you'll get worse temps. Where the intake is in the chassis (left or right, it doesn't matter regarding temps). Just follow the brands recommandation for in and out for the specific block. Cold in and hot out. Be careful with use of different PSU manufacturers cables. Their pin-out on the PSU side is often different. Even within the brands own different PSUs. -

The 8 pin EPS connector have 4x12v lines. One more 12v power pin than 8-pin pci-e power connectors for graphics cards. With dual 8 pin EPS connector + power from the PCIe slot it should be enough for powering an 4090. But will lack sense pins. This connector couldn't be an option due how it's designed. The new 12VHPWR connectors should be made 50% bigger and not so fragile and with a proper hook latch. Or just dual length of 6 pin connector and slightly higher to implement the 4 sense pins with a proper hook. Pretty or cute have to be todays word. There was not a single reason they had to make the 12VHPWR connectors so small and tiny as they are. So in short... A stupid and not user friendly fragile connector design. Made and created for user erors. -

Nice. Some brands refuse to fix the problems. Of course you can't expect the different brands will fix it if the CableMod adapter is fused/molded to the GPU connector🙂 What we will never know.... How many have experienced fried CableMod adapters where the 12V power connector on the PCB is nice and clean. Just mount a brand new 12VHPWR connector shipped directly from CableMod. Yep, we will never ever get the correct numbers from CableMod. That would if the numbers was decent destroy their reputation. Bad enough with their previous QC problems where their adapter/cable turn your screen black. -
Forgot to add in, it need to be wired KB. I often play with fully stripped OS and don't want struggle with any wifi or bluetooth drivers. And thanks for all suggestions.

I'll need the numpad. Most good keyboards with numpad is around 450mm long. I want it below 400mm. 360-380mm long would be nice. No need for a lot bling bling lights and such fancy functions you don't need. Just with lights (white) and numpad. And of course ok mechanical key switches. Up to 150$ for the price.

I use Corsair K95 RGB PLATINUM tastatur with Cherry MX Speed key switches. And a couple of unbranded cheap keyboards. They do what you want them to do but not much more. I'm in hunt for a much shorter full size mechanical keyboard. Come with options if you know about a few okish. Below 400mm long is preferred.

Disappointing RTX 4070 sales allegedly push NVIDIA to continue ongoing supply halt into June https://www.notebookcheck.net/Disappointing-RTX-4070-sales-allegedly-push-NVIDIA-to-continue-ongoing-supply-halt-into-June.718232.0.html First spotted by @harukaze5719 on Twitter, ITHome alleges that, due to bad RTX 4070 sales, NVIDIA decided to halt the supply of the GPUs to Add-in Card (AIC) partners at the end of April. This supposed delivery cut was meant to last for a month whereby AICs would start getting fresh RTX 4070 supply by the end of May. However, NVIDIA may now have extended the supply cut into June to keep the price of the board from falling. I can't see the AIC partners is so very happy with how it is. R&D need to be paid off. You don't do that with minimal/disappointing sales of 4000 series nvidia graphics. And I expect the AIC partners don't sell loads of GPUs for artificial intelligence to the Artificial intelligence industry in same way as Nvidia. I'm not even sure they offer such GPUs. Not the same as flooding the miners with gamer cards. AMD's RX 7600 may share a key spec with Nvidia's RTX 4060 and not in a good way AMD shouldn't compete with Nvidia in this way...... Or just scrap the idea with a normal PC box home and go with the small portable baby-box you linked above (in the youtube video). -
