  1. Hey, how to get a 13900k free AND pocket $500-600 to apply towards a 4090.... Congrats!
  2. I only use copper / aftermarket IHS for laptops if they provide a bit of extra height for poor heatsinks. Outside of that, it is always the stock IHS on desktops just with a good smattering of delids when needed. Glad things ended up working out.
  3. Very nice! Glad to see the G2 opening up and CR1 to boot! I was thinking of selling my Strix D4 + memory setup too and starting fresh and going full DDR5 finally. We're on the same wavelength (again). 🙂
  4. The parameters are different this time around. We are back to Turing conditions. No Crypto-boom along with no Pandemic or logistical conditions deriving thereof. Tomorrow will be officially one month since 4090 launch. What we saw before was AMD and Nvidia weren't holding anything back. They were literally pumping out as many GPUs as possible and still couldn't keep anything in stock. Unless something suddenly introduces new conditions (TSMC issues or another crypto-boom being the biggest potentials), all the perceived "holding back" will not stop the demand curve from shrinking unlike before where it was impossible to exhaust because even at inflated prices slamming any decent GPU into a rig was a money making device. If/when 4090 prices suddenly jump and move consistently > $3k on eBay/StockX then you will know we are somewhat in previous conditions. So many variables are against previous market conditions repeating themselves but like I said before the scarcity PTSD from 2019 to early 2022 still linger. ~Feb 2023 will be the first checksum on market conditions.
  5. You can always get a refund on S&H. It just can take a bit if that is about the $107.
  6. I definitely trust Falkentyne. He's a straight shooter to a fault in all the good ways. I'm not saying CENS wouldn't be on the up and up but I'd pass or do F&F and want the motherboard before I ship anything out in light up that update. Worse case scenario? You keep a fantastic CPU specimen. It's a great chip. Enjoy it!
  7. I'm more curious about the 18" form factor than anything on this one....
  8. This. My only dilemma is 3090ti prices are up even for generic models on eBay (makes sense, considering the entire product cycle of the 3090ti was much shorter than the 3090) and I have to fight the temptation to sell my KPE 3090ti for $2k'ish and basically end up with a free PSU out of the whole thing because it is running nice and sweet but I know a 4090 or 7900xtx would basically lock me into a near flat 140fps everywhere in WoW (144hz display capped at 140fps). I have a brand new EVGA Z690 Classified too sitting on the shelf and they are going for $400+ on eBay again. Tempted to sell that also.... .....like you and your 13900kf. 🙂
  9. Exactly with the recession and that is the rub. If the recession deepens (which it will), this demand curve will flatten sooner than later. Right now, the initial surge of demand is outpacing the slowly deepening of the recession but it will reach its equilibrium point sooner than later. If we see a black friday sale on GPUs it will be lower end Ampere cards. 3090 and 3090ti's are basically out of stock everywhere or close to it but I see plenty of 3050-3070 stock in many places. Good time for a final "mark down" and clear it out. Ampere and Turing went through the same thing on release. Initial sell out then low/no availability. Everyone starts to panic because of previous cycle PTSD but we are literally less than a month in still (October 12th) on a new product cycle. Less than a month in and eBay/StockX prices are nowhere near the 3k+ people were paying for 3090s. Absolutely. 1080ti ($699) -> 2080ti ($999) -> 3090 ($1499) -> 4090 ($1599) top end halo products priced ridiculously high but the generational performance leap is one of the highest yet the price increase is one of the lowest but we can't ignore that the massive price hike damage was done already. 4080? $699-->$1199. Jensen is doing to the second tier now what he did to the top tier before to bring it inline with already crazy high pricing. If he has his way, a 4070 will normalize to previous second tier pricing where we'll feel lucky to pay $699+ for a 4070/ti. Best case scenario is 6 months from now stock is flush, sales continue to stagnate or decrease and Nvidia has to re-evaluate their position both current cards and future generations. When pushed, we saw what can happen (3090ti $1999 -> $1099), albeit all 3090ti's are creeping back up in cost now when you can find them.
  10. Reasons: #1. Still early in product launch #2. 4090 "scarcity" (Prices on eBay are nowhere near what they were deep in the Crypto-Pandemic boom for 3090's) #3. Worldwide inflation (If people in the US think we're the only ones, take a look around) #4. Worldwide recession (See above) #5. Holiday/buyers season Once we get to Jan/Feb 2023 we will have an accurate picture of market conditions without Crypto upending everything along with the Pandemic, then the whole China thing and more. I see some things I potentially want but right now I am even more entrenched in a firm hold pattern till next year (in theory 🙂 ) as early market conditions sort themselves out. Of course I also said this too in the Fall of 2020 then ended up getting a 3090 FE in late October 2020 when one popped up on Best Buy.....so there's that. 🙂 While I still think the 3090 was overpriced at $1499.99 on launch there is no denying using that as a comparison, the 4090 offers an overall average 60% uptick in performance for $100 more even with CPI adjustment. It is a "good" value relatively speaking to Ampere. 4080 is overpriced hot garbage.
  11. Yeah I would definitely take that deal. Z790 Dark is going to be $800+ all on its own when it makes its way to being offered on top of $1050 + S&H. That's nearly a $2k sale when all is said and done. That is righteous and I'm so happy for you bro! Good stuff to good people. 🙂
  12. Oh well hello there..... Intel making an MXM module for their A380 too? Interesting addition to the mix.
  13. My initial thoughts were PoE and a cross-over cable issue too but @Etern4l was on the money with those first two questions. There is always the possibility of a surge/short somewhere that went through your system (or the wife's) and grounded out through the port. My next step would be to use a real hub/switch to connect the systems again or place them closer with a shorter run. I see you used the native ports so there was no chance of a PCIe surge through a NIC.
  14. Something to play around with later even though I still have the A380 on the shelf too....
  15. Apparently EVGA made ~20 4090 Prototypes and GN has one now too for a true breakdown:
  16. And the Lawyer "fact finding" part of the 4090 class action sniffing about starts.... This popped up on my Facebook:
  17. The build up and suspense...even including a collapsed spoiler window for a big 'ole nothing burger...... .....well played. 🙂
  18. So you're keeping the Zotrash 2000? 🤣 Man..... Seeing that EVGA pre-production 4090 is like a dagger to the heart. 😞 I wish they could have found a way to work with Nvidia, but I understand on many levels why they gave Nvidia the proverbial bird and jumped ship.
  19. 4080 16GB = 28.5k GPU vs ~23.5k 3090ti. Only logical upgrade is the 4090 / 7900xtx I'm going to assume their ~21711 for 3090ti is on older drivers / outdated as I get ~23.5k stock. https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4080-3dmark-timespy-scores-have-been-leaked-as-well
  20. Binning 7x 4090's..... wish he had binned the memory too and with more sustained tests but still interesting. That first MSI TRIO was a serious outlier pulling ~50-65w less.
  21. We are less than a month into 4090 launch and unlike Ampere no Cryptoboom or Pandemic with which to contend. While you can't get a, "NOW NOW NOW!" on it, by Jan/Feb they will be available. Even if Nvidia is artificially holding them back, demand is nowhere near of the sustained levels of 2020-2021 where supply never could catch up to demand as you had miners snatching up anything to throw into a rig even at grossly inflated costs. The market will adjust. It just feels like a mild case of PTSD because of before but this is NOTHING like then.
  22. That WOULD be a refreshing change of pace. Quietly undersell / deflate the hype train and when launched be better than expected. I am sure the lackluster response to AM5 may have played a small part in their approach/pricing. Ugh, Azor.....destroyer of Alienware.... SFF has its place in hierarchy. I like SFF builds but not for my main rig ever. Imagine that fake FPS booster doesn't use anything AI but also works on Ampere, massive kick in the nut for Nvidia for gating that tech to Ada Lovelace. "This card will KO the 4080 16GB. And fight against the 4090." This in spades. Based on presentation and performance estimates (after adjustments), the 7900XTX is going to be an excellent card and price:performance monster. Linus going into more about AMD's new cards and Nvidia:
  23. Just because he says it targets the 4080 (easy win?) doesn't mean it also won't compete with the 4090. But with AMD numbers to go by only, we will see. ADA didn't match the hype either with people saying it was going to be 95% faster in games and on average it was ~60% overall. I expect a similar reality check when the real reviews come in for the 7900xtx. That CP2077 1.7x uplift is potentially going to be a major outlier. Nvidia will retain the performance crown overall (when all was said and done just as the 3090ti did for Ampere against the 6950xt) but they will have to re-evaluate their entire stack now with AMD bringing so much performance in the <=$1000 segment. If you can potentially get 90% of the performance of a 4090 for $600 less in pure Raster? RT is going to be better (ish) than Ampere but 4090 just decimates it.... DLSS/FSE/XESS? Meh..... Still irked over all the leaks that kept pushing the massive SPs but didn't note the 2x per change meaning CU went from 80 to 96 not 160+ and SP is realistically 6144 x 2 not 12288. Threw my guestimations WAY off giving me a big fat WHIFF on this one like a boss. 🙂 We'll wait for the real numbers, but we know AMD can and has cherry picked with the best of them but again this will really shake up Nvidia's approach to pricing especially in the lower high / upper mid and down stack. Or OR We're going to end up with another 5700xt which was a great card but simply couldn't compete with the 2080ti overall but put plenty of heat on Nvidia in the upper middle on down. That would be the smart play from Nvidia for 4080 pricing.
  24. I am sure they are legally covered somehow if they have to nerf it. They wouldn't be the first or last to cap performance/power for whatever reasons. AMD did it with the 5000 series and initial OC/boost performance with a subsequent release of Agesa.
