Ditto with the MSI GL66 Pulse w/ 12700h. I went in there and attacked the anemic heatsink and was able to break 17k CB23 but even opening up the extra options in BIOS with this chipset and/or CPU you can't do anything. You set it and it does nothing and this thing needs to be able to adjust PLs, undervolt or both to dial it in.

Not sure what I love more....the crocs, old hardware or benchmarks! 🙂 I love seeing old GPUs being benched on modern CPUs because they are being pushed to their absolute limit. Good work as always bro! -
So crazy. I remember way back in the day with an MSI-1722 and a C2Q Extreme being a throttling, heating mess going, "something is clearly wrong here," doing some google searches and finding the notebook forums in 2009 and the rest is history....since then every laptop I've had has gotten cracked open and optimized. The trend has continued to this day even BGA garbage gets ripped open and addressed. Awesome! I reached a point I busted out a spiral notebook and started jotting down torque levels and correlating successful boots, memory channels working and synthetic benches either glitching, freezing or BSODs and after a few days of hours of testing and torque levels it all pointed to that bottom left screw as problematic. Not to absolve the other two but that bottom left was consistently causing issues. Sheesh, 1.601v on this constrained environment? What was the package pull on that? 😁

Maybe order a couple (or more) of those at 4.35 and see if you can drill some new mounting holes to match and shoehorn it into the NH55.... Just about everytime a good delid results in better temps sometimes extreme. (10c+).

Yeah, that 12900k is a prime specimen for the NH55 that would love a good delid especially with looking to optimize thermals since it has such a good V/F at that critical juncture. Looking at the early Dell numbers for their Precision w/ 12950HX, those numbers are going to have to improve drastically quickly to get in the ballpark of what the NH55 is putting out especially with a good chip. I can't wait to see the results with a good delid. After that, some pairing tests see if you need to use Nanogrease Extreme or if the spread and pressure is good enough to step up and use something else or even liquid metal if the pair is good enough and a foam bridge if you want to be daring.

I spent an hour or so pouring through all my collected data, both personal and from other forums, of V/F curves and I can't find another 12900k that has that low of a V/F point @ 4200mhz so you clearly have a winner in that aspect. Even my 12900k isn't sub 1v. It is 1.014v @ 4200. That goes to show you for our purposes with this particular model SP rating and overclocking has its limits on that low end. Only thing that would trump it would be a cooler running chip assuming you run into thermal throttling at 4.0-4.2. But if no thermal throttling just PL reached I would call it a wrap with that one. Congrats bro!

That makes a lot of sense at that V/F point. That voltage is better than almost every 12900k I've seen including some monster SP96-SP100 chips. How did your other 12900k's and 12900ks faire? And yeah, that is one good indicator but if it is a leaky/hot chip a lot of that goes right out the window.

So true, but for him there will be zero OC's everywhere even if I switched to Intel it would be near stock across the board. I've been running pcpartpicker scenarios and it still is a bit too expensive so far even going with Gigabyte (which I do not want) and tossing in some of my parts so the wait continues. -

Right in the pills! 😁 Most likely letting more units go because (shockingly) the E-1 launch didn't go anywhere near what they planned (what? 5k semi prebuilt with a $1.5k case didn't rush out the door? I'm shocked 🙂 ). -

If all you do is general use and gaming is your only taxing computing task, 5800X3D makes all types of sense price and performance. If my sole taxing criteria was gaming only at 1080p or 1440p and my games loved the 5800X3D architecture I would have zero problems going with a 5800X3D and an AMD GPU. I can literally get a basic betty B550 + uber cheap 3200 2x16GB sticks and get out of the box performance on this level decimating everything in its path: Default all: Tuned ram: Max OC and Max tuned ram: All he plays is FFXIV and WoW and quite frankly you have to tweak the snot out of a 12th gen system AND run a 12900k (pray for a good IMC and a good MB to handle that speed) along with higher end memory and tweak everything to match the performance of a 5800X3D to finally eclipse it with a basic board and 3200 (yes 3200) sticks of memory since that V cache absolutely sings with WoW, FFXIV and many other games. Even a 12600k has to be pushed with an OC and hope you get a good IMC to run 4000+ DDR4 or 6600+ DDR5 and even then it doesn't match the performance of the 5800X3D + 3200. Seeing as I had a couple 12900k's not even be able to break 3733....... I would never push any type of OC on his system. Maybe some primary and terts tweaking a little but nothing like the constant tweaking and modding I do on my own systems with the memory, CPU and GPU. It's all about 24/7 stability and game ready. Of course if your games do not take advantage of that monster cache then re-evaluate your situation. His games (and many others) do. WoW runs better e-cores off as regardless of the scheduler it still takes frequent trips over to those e-cores and you get these erratic drops in fps for a few seconds before it finds its way home. Hopefully they can fix that in the future. GPU wise, he will game at 1080p or 1440p high refresh and doesn't care a hoot about RT nor NVENC and the 6900xt is a monster at that resolution for WoW providing 3090 level performance at a now $700 price point. Turn on SAM and it gets even better vs rebar. WoW supports FSR but not DLSS. Price:Performance 5800X3D + 6900XT (or 6950XT if they get crazy low prices too) for gaming (especially depending on games) is a killer combo and the logical choice. From a pure WoW perspective, if I wanted max frames at 4k, AMD GPUs with FSR make the most sense but I won't give up RT nor do I want image upscaling. Nvidia still rules the roost for 4k gaming. -
Temps progression logs playing WoW aka Operation can I play this as quietly as possible? 30-60 min play time in WoW results (my main criteria). Includes flight runs in Ardenweald, Bastion (hardest hitting zones in the entire game) and one raid run. When I first got the laptop = 92c on CPU / 76c GPU Cleaned everything up, used nanogrease extreme 30 min = 88c on CPU / 71c GPU Went back in fixed a bent side on the GPU retention. re-delidded/lidded original binned ZtecPC CPU = 85c on CPU / 65c on GPU (GPU ok now) Picked up an SL 10900k no delid or tampering 82c right out of the box. Switched screws for CPU retention. Picked up an LTX Golden 10900k already delidded. Relidded w/ BartX Nickel IHS = 83c Relidded LTX Golden 10900k with stock IHS temp = 77c. Clearly BartX did not like the X170SM but stock IHS is working better. Used torque controlled screw driver to find optimal torque without black screens. dropping LTX temps down to 73 LTX delid temps clearly beating SL even though SL is superior chip. Delid and relid SL 10900k with stock IHS. As soon as I started playing I knew next level was hit because the fans were barely moving during my entire play sessions. Final top out temps = 68c. If I forced the fans to run as they were with the >70c temps it would have probably been a smidge lower: I think I've optimized this thing as much as I possibly can. Maybe get back in there and play around with the memory to see how much more I can optimize it. Also pick up a dual rank set of sticks to compare against Jarrod's report of memory gains. @Clamibot while using a torque controlled screw driver and doing a lot of trial and error I did identify on my X170SM-G it was the lower left CPU screw that causes black screens when tension is too high. The single and right screw? I could tighten those as much as I wanted just about (within reason) and the unit still booted fine. I'm wondering if it is a combination of sensitivity and retention lever pressure on that side.

Asrock 6900xt and 6950xt down to 850 and 1000.... I told my son on law to hold off and wait a bit because he's chomping at the bit to have me build him a desktop. If he plays his cards right, he will save a nice chunk and get a killer 6900xt + 5800X3D system that will last him for years considering he's still playing on a 4810mq / 970m laptop and doing ok. His budget is right around 1500 and that pricing for a high end system is becoming a reality. I have parts galore to help round it out for him so he can fit his budget too if needed. -
What is the fastest RAM speed you have achieved on a Clevo? (DDR4)
electrosoft replied to srs2236's topic in Sager & Clevo
Gear 2 on 11th and 12th gen laptops DDR4 is garbage since the design limitations usually cap the memory at 3200 range along with absolutely atrocious latency. 11th gen, best G1 chip I had topped out at 3933. 12th gen gets around 4266 single rank, 4133 dual rank. I also ran into many 11th gen chips that couldn't go over 3600 and a few 12th gen that couldn't go over 3733. I refer to RKL as Intel's Frankenchip. That "we have to offer something" phase between 10th and 12th. For 12th, slowly, but surely DDR5 will fully eclipse DDR4 even running in G2 in all aspects but it isn't quite there yet. -

P870TM1 w/ Prema was incredible but I was running mine with a 1060 (like a boss) and when WoW Shadowlands dropped my frames become completely unplayable (30-40's) even with details dropped to a 7/10 when previously I was playing at 10/10. Instead of upgrading the GPU I upgraded to an X170SM-G with a 2080 Super and Prema. End the end, I think the P870TM (and the P870 series in general) will end up being my most favorite Clevo series of all time unless Clevo suddenly gets their act together. For specific games, unless you are talking a meaningful jump (IE 3200->3600+), it is better to focus on tight timings to even out 1% and .1% lows and increase overall fps. Bandwidth has its limitations inside of a small window. On the other hand, I would most likely take 3600 16-16-16 over 3200 14-14-14 but not 3333 or potentially 3466. For that tighter window of bandwidth, timings > bandwidth. I used to swear by AIDA64 till the results achieved had no meaningful bearing on my game playing experience and ran counter to my real world numbers collected for laptop gaming so I started to question why. I still use Aida64 though for tweak by tweak comparisons and then compare it against something like TS and WoW to differentiate what is actually giving me improvements. If you are able to achieve same (or close enough) latency with 3466 as 3200 and your in game results reflect it, you obviously should take 3466 but extensive testing on WoW flight runs has proven time and time again for my needs timings trump bandwidth inside the narrow laptop window which is limited due to PCB quality and trace issues. Bandwidth becomes a distant second in most laptop scenarios when they're within ~300-400mhz of each other and (most importantly) your BIOS gives you access to fine tune timings. If your .exe's favor raw bandwidth, favor that but for most gaming (and especially WoW), tight timings are king especially on bandwidth limited laptops. I took the time on my P870TM1 when I was doing those flight runs to tweak fps and lows to figure out tighter timings at 3200 > looser timings at 3466. Of course soon after a couple of YT videos came out showing tight timings are incredibly important to a point (IE 3200 14-14-14 won't trump 3600+ 16-16-16). (1) Hardware Numb3rs - YouTube On a desktop these rules basically fly out the window because they aren't limited like laptops in peak bandwidth and I wouldn't even run anything below 3600 and push for 4000+ with DDR4 along with tight timings. Again, Aida64 is not the end all of all. Try setting some benchmarks and capture fps along with lows and test various memory settings and see what works for you. -
Came up for me no problem.

It was already running nice in the X170SM-G but this will just bring it down a notch. I wanted to get back in there anyhow since Kingpin TIM was running a little off and put nanogrease extreme back on. While I was in there I was like, "eh, let me throw it on the desktop bench to see how it compares with the re-lidded stock lid LTX" and the LTX relid dusted it in temps so I decided to just delid it where in the end it pulled ahead relid vs relid by ~8w and 2c with an avg of 65.7 vs 64.2. I'll pop it back in my X170SM-G in an hour or so. If money was no object, I'd pick up the frame and a Z690 classified. Not sure why at that price they didn't include the EVGA CLC 360mm with the new style fans to match the ones on the KPE 3090ti. But yeah, the KPE 3090ti and the E1 are all super limited so it transcends it just being a "3090ti" on other levels and not subject to normal market pricing hence the KPE 3090ti is sold out for individual sales already. The rest of the cards? Normal market conditions apply. I don't know how the cards can drop any lower since Jayztwocents just told us a week or so ago they weren't going to drop any lower and we need to BUY NOW! Clearly the market is wrong.... 🙄 -

It did the same with my LTX too when I re-delidded it and gave it a complete shine and cleaning and relidding before selling. Put the same CPUs in an Asus Z590? Scores were right. On this MSI one run nets 16.5k. Next run nexts 15.5k. Zero consistency score wise but identical pull and thermals. I'm focused on the drop in temps and pull to give my X170SM-G even more breathing room. In it even, scores are 16.5k proper. I've had this MB since 11th gen launch last year and through numerous 10th gen chips same 15k-15.5k ish scores randomly. 11th gen worked fine. I am glad for the pretty substantial temp and watt drops. That's the magic. 🙂 Here is the LTX after a proper relid with the stock IHS (same as the SL relid) same conditions and environment with a 10min CB23 run -

Do they offer true 32" 10-bit panels? That is priority #1 for me followed by 4k and >90% color gamut coverage across all three (Adobe, P3, S3) along with viewing angles last. Then comes HDR600+ Then comes >=120hz, <=1ms response time -

I've been using a BenQ 32" 4k panel the last two years and I genuinely love it. Full 10-bit 4k with excellent color reproduction which is always my primary criteria over all else. I decided to give myself a full gaming experience and picked up a Viewsonic 32" Elite 1440p 165hz Quantum Dot IPS gaming G-sync display. I figured I could handle stepping down to 1440p. I used it for 3-4 days and boxed it back up for return for a few reasons: Desktop 1440p looks seriously chunky after having run 4k for almost 2 years but more importantly the 8-bit panel is a no go. The banding was evident in many areas. HDR600 was not as good as the HDR on the BenQ with only HDR400. I will say the actual game play itself with a bit more fluid and smoother especially in CP2077 and FO76. A deal maker? No, but enough I would be willing to take another crack at it as long as my primary criteria aren't compromised. I won't do VA. I had tried a Samsung U59 a few years ago and the view angles (along with 8-bit banding) made it a non starter and back it went. The other thing is this BenQ with being G-sync compliant helps with some of the limitations of a 60hz panel but obviously can't compete with a real gaming display with its ~5ms response time, 60hz limitations. So I'm looking for a true 32" IPS 10-bit 4k display with >90% Adobe and P3 >=120hz gaming, low latency, HDR600+ display. I've got my eye on the MSI MPG321UR-QD Xbox Edition as it seems to fit all the criteria I need while not breaking the bank but I'll continue to look for other options too. -

Depends on what your end game goals are but since laptops are usually limited for D2D use well below 3600, the idea is to really the tightest times possible @ >=3000mhz . I'll take 3200 14-14-14 over 3466 16-16-16 every time regardless of what Aida64 spits back at me. -

I could take my P870TM1 to 3466 stable 3600 would intermittently boot never stable. X170SM-G is sitting at 3200 14-14-14 as >3200 was a wash last time I worked on memory but I do have a different CPU in there now so I may go back and take another crack at it now that everything else is resolved and tuned. -
