So, went to MC tonight to pick up a few things and found out that our MC will in fact replace a delidded cpu if you have accidental care. I also was told ours is pretty lenient and flexible when it comes to their warranty and replacements on "certain" parts. And that's about all I'm going to say on that front.🤣

Grabbed a turd and it's going back in the morning though. I should have known better. SP101. The guy that sold it to me said report back with it's rating as a few of them were a bit curious about the hole SP rating system.

That is awesome news about the way MC takes care of customers the right way. Such a rare thing in today's world.

Sad news that you drew another dud from the lottery. 14900K and 14900KS have both been a losing battle for many.

My SP117 13900KS should be what an average 14900KS looks like. I wish I had three of these.

The only excellent LGA 1700 CPUs I have purchased were purchased used from someone that found a better sample and sold me the CPU their better one replaced.

That's a nice little chip right there. How much?

I was trying to new random batch that I hadn't seen yet. Should have just grabbed another one from the batch identical to mine, but I think I'm just going to keep my 105 and send the 13900K (SP112) back to the store. Because this one can boot 9K memory. Can run 6Ghz all cores with chiller. And cost less at 669.99 vs 699.99.

Thank you. It is a really great one. I gave like $600 for it on OC.net a few months ago.

You (we all) need a 14900KS like the one in this guys signature. This should be normal for a "Special Edition" not a special one. Normal is not special.

Well that will certainly come in handy. That 780W Eurocom PSU was one of the best "upgrades" I ever got for a laptop.

It seems like it is primarily really crummy E-cores that are ruining most 14900K/KS. I don't understand why so many of them have absolutely horrible E-core silicon quality. That was not nearly as much of a problem with 13900KS. A fair number of them have pretty decent P-cores.

I have no clue either. I mean I can get them to run at 4.8Ghz,  but it sure takes a lot of voltage to do so and it's still not always stable. I'll have to do some more investigating later.

Yep. Loved that 780W PSU. I have 2 of them. And now they can still be used! That's a game changer for me as they have been sitting around collecting dust for the last 5 years or so. Just wish their display was more accurate though. 🤬

Quite easy to understand.... Intel binned for the P-core 6.2 GHz boost target. Same was it when they binned (6.0 GHz) for the 14900K. This way (all boys and girls) could see the +6.0GHz target in brief moments. Just pump in more voltage so all can enjoy "words fastest" Cpu.

Same as their first gen i9 mobile scam with i9-8950HK with "Thermal Velocity Boost" which allows one core to boost to 4.8 GHz (+200 MHz) as long as the CPU temperature was below 50°C.

Big clocks for burst loads. Can't do that with E-cores. So why should they bother? Even with trash E-cores in the KS, they all could get the 100MHz bump over vanilla 14900K. So Intel "forgot" to bin the whole chips.

Edit.

When some of the mainstream YTers try to say faster memory is really a waste and no real gains, then you get B4B who actually does some tuning comparing 6000 vs 8600 for gaming.

This is right along the lines of the gains I saw 6000 vs 8000 tuned on my 13900KS + MSI Z790i Edge. The gains are real and substantial especially in WoW.

Hmmm. This is not big cards. Not very heavy or very long cards. I never use sag-bracket on my older but still big cards when I run them. I only use support stick for the 4090. Maybe some don't bother screw the cards bracket to the I/O slots. They are more like dangling in the boards Pcie slot. Thats worse of a sin🙂

@Mr. Fox How is Asus quality? Or better say whats wrong with Asus? Does Asus sucks? Is this the normal you get from them all time? If you have read my older posts... Asus is one of the very few AIBs that offer halfmade vram colers  that cover half of the vram chips. Also there you see cost saving on their best flagship models. And this also apply many older Asus models. Awful (engineering) decisions only with the intent of cost savings.

s2gRw77.jpg

Whats the point reuse the massive Asus 4090 cooler for their weaker 4080 cards when the Asus quality sucks? And the 4080 die is rotated vs 4090 so the big cold plate for the 4090 cooler barely fits the die. At least do a proper thermal paste job. Hmmm. Asus on it once again.

And we can only advise Asus to tighten up its quality management a little more, because I had to give my RTX 4090 Strix a new paste because the old one had completely bled out. So it's anything but an isolated case, but rather an unnecessary cost-down on such expensive cards.

We may see new bios (new microcode) and drivers faster than you think from Intel. This below doesn't look good. A good advice... Maybe try out with different microcodes. Worth test it if you have problems. @safedisk any comments on this? Thanks.

This is a cool project. Will be interesting to see how it turns out. Would like to see an ATX version.

This below is my comment/reply on OC.net

We may see new bios (new microcode) and drivers faster than you think from Intel. This below doesn't look good. A good advice... Maybe try out with different microcodes. Worth test it if you have problems. @safedisk any comments on this? Thanks.

Got answer back from @safedisk But not for all my questions.

As you can see... New/Newer doesn't always mean better @Mr. Fox @Rage Set

Interesting trend. This customer must be letting his GPUs sag with no support.

Don't have to worry about sag if you slap a waterblock on it 🤣

It can certainly help with these monstrous air coolers we are seeing. But, that might depend on which waterblock though. The Kingpin, Optimus and EK dual-sided (active backplate cooling) waterblocks are extremely heavy compared to an air cooler. Also, if you have an older Gigabutt GPU with the big notch cut out on the end of the PCIe connector that creates a weak point that requires special caution because of their inherent design flaw. The new Gigabutt design (which is normal compared to competitors) should not be any different than other brands.

anyone here know the ETA on steel nomad benchmark? going to be like timespy which is pretty exciting, it will be interesting to see what games in the future will look like and how they will perform. going to get it day one.

also going all out on a 5090 setup, decided to do this because i'll plan on leaving it as is for 5 years then the return will be pretty great. by the time 5 years has passed laptops will have caught up to the 5090. if they are like pascal gen i'll have made a big mistake

Spot on. Many cards with full cover water block will weight more than 2Kg. Shorter card... Yes but still a heavy mass dangling from the PCIe slot.

Arctic Liquid Freezer III AIO Review: To put it bluntly, the Liquid Freezer III is unimpressive

Got 2.5 stars from Tomshardware.

After installing and testing models in three different sizes, I can’t recommend Arctic’s Liquid Freezer III AIOs.

My reply in the comment section.... "Who's right... Your or their reviews? Can it be a faulty product you got for the review? Thanks

Well its worth investigating to determine if it was a faulty unit (which is also a concern) or faulty process. Doesnt seem like they are going to invest more time into it though.
