Asus saved up the better bins the last months for their new 4090 AIO cards. And you get telemetry on top. Nice. And why? The ROG Matrix RTX 4090 sports only a single 12VHPWR cable. In short cheaper add a sensor that can track if there is something wrong with the 12VHPWR connector. The HOF offer it as well but you also get dual 12VHPWR connector to balance the current between 12 power pins. Dang, that is really one stupid-looking GPU. That goofy frame arounds it is super dorky looking. The people that design ASUS products are retards in the truest sense. They do some of the most ridiculous and unintelligent things I have ever seen. On 5/29/2023 at 1:08 PM, Papusan said: I wonder why CableMod/custom cable industri couldn't do the same for their 12VHPWR connectors. Afraid for increased costs? And why didn't Nvidia go for this solution for their adaper that follow every single 4090 package? Again.... It's again about costs. Every extra cents will be transformed into profits. And don't tell me that the overpaid nvidia engineers couldn't find out this by themself. And as you can see... The damn weak tiny hook/latch struggle to hold the small fragile 12VHPWR connector into place. Thermal cycling and or the user do small changes in the Pc box can pull out the connector 1-1.5mm without much force. This connector ain't foolproof. A small user errors and a few months later you'll smell the smoke. I think it was a smart idea and MSI thought of it. I doubt it had to do with cost. I doubt the cost would be appreciably different. It should become industry standard if the industry intends to keep using this garbage connector form factor. I think it should be discontinued immediately and they should go back to using 8-pin connectors until something that we can actually say is better has been identified. They could use the same 24-pin connectors as motherboard power if the idea of going back to using 2, 3 or 4 of the 8-pin connectors is mysteriously somehow a bad idea even though it never was before. NVIDIA just needs to own the fact that the 12VPHWR connector was a stupid idea, and all of the AIB partners need to retool for 8-pin and stop building anything using the new trash. ("New" is fast becoming the synonym for trash, or so it seems.) 5 hours ago, Ashtrix said: Alex shows how the wiggling BS done by all the YT content creators from GN to everyone to ensure it's right is disproved by MSI power connector and shows the blatant design flaw of this garbage connector.. The yellow is a super smart idea. It doesn't fix the underlying problem of the defective connector design, but it makes spotting the problem easier. But, there is an aspect to it that is super-stupid, too. By using the 12VHPWR connector on both ends, they are DOUBLING the chances that the cable will burn due to a poor connection. Since the connector design is inherently defective, it makes NO SENSE they would do this. They should have normal connections at the PSU. Just like the superior 8-pin (6+2 PCIe) connector that has served the world well since the day they were introduced, there have been no problems on the PSU plug side of things. Now MSI is introducing a second problem where a solution or change was unnecessary and, in this case, ILL ADVISED. That seems almost as stupid as something ASUS would do, LOL. Change for the sake of change is never good or welcomed. They all use same 12VHPWR connector all over. The only difference is the connector on the PSU side. Single vs dual connector point. And to make it less appealing. You get the dreaded tiny fragile 12VHPWR connector instead for a real massive 8/12 pin power connector for the PSU connection🙂 So the best safeguard against the issue is probably to avoid using any adapter and simply "upgrade to an ATX 3.0 PSU". https://www.techspot.com/news/98819-users-report-melting-16-pin-rtx-4090-power.html There is no need to use the added adapter from the GPU box or buy a custom made cable/adapter. Neither is it a need to buy a ATX 3.0 PSU. Just buy the recommended cable from the PSU manufacturer. You will still risk the same fire regardless what option you go with. The ATX 3.0 PSU won't change that facts. And for what good is it to have double up with the tiny small weak 12VHPWR connectors for your shiny ATX 3.0 PSU? @Mr. Fox😀 You only get double up with the hated new and modern power connector, LOOL 1 hour ago, Mr. Fox said: By using the 12VHPWR connector on both ends, they are DOUBLING the chances that the cable will burn due to a poor connection. Newer often means cost cutting. Most likely revamped dumbed down for possible price decrease when Nvidia find the right time. Make the card and cooler smaller is most likely to reduce the costs. Not for innovation. MSI Trims Down GeForce RTX 4070 Ti GPU tomshardware.com The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Gaming X SlimY 12G is essentially a cut-down version of the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Gaming X Trio 12G. It features a slightly revamped shroud but sticks to MSI's Tri Frozr 3 cooling system. MSI told Tom's Hardware Deputy Managing Editor Paul Alcorn that an RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 will come later. As the model name insinuates, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Gaming X Slim 12G flaunts a more svelte profile than MSI's other GeForce RTX 4070 Ti graphics cards. That doesn't mean the graphics card is tiny enough to fit inside small form factor (SFF) systems, though. Again... Whats the point with this dumbed down design if many can't put it in their new modern tiny fancy toy boxes? And not the first time Msi have dumbed down their 4070 Ti cards.... This is the Gaming X Trio's Slimy sibling... Despite the solid VRM design, MSI chose to limit the manual adjustment power limit to only 305 W, or +20 W. Maybe this was done to segment the card from the Suprim X, which goes up to 365 W. 3 "The Killer" ASUS ROG Z790 Apex Encore | 14900KS | 4090 HOF + 20 other graphics cards | 32GB DDR5 | Be Quiet! I give up the compatibility problems between the old AMD Asus graphics card paired with my Asus board. The damn Asus Amd card will only power up when it wants. Mostly never. I only have a white VGA lighs on the board. This is a huge on/off lottery. So I throw the cheapo Asus card in my drawer. And there it will stay until I maybe buy a MB from another manufacurer than ASUS. Maybe it works then. Is there any reason this so called OC "Garbage" MB from Asus can't stick with CSM Enabled? I need the DVI port to be able to boot the old AMD card (with CSM Enabled). Once I change to newer Display port on the old AMD card then its a lottery when the MB determine to disable CSM or continue with correct bios settings. Once disabled CSM, the pc won't recognize the card and the nice white video lights on the MB come on and stay. And swapping back to old DVI doesn't help. This only happen with older AMD card. Never older nvidia card. If I turn of the pc when running in Uefi mode and put in an very old Nvidia card, the MB fix it easly by itself and swap over to the correct compatibility mode. Is this a buggy AMD trash behaviour, Asus trash OC board who don't like older AMD Asus graphics cards? Or both? Nice... Asus can't even support own older Asus graphics card paired with own MB. And this is a so called OC board intended for benching. A flagship meant to push world records on new and old gen hw. If I wanted a vanilla gamer board for new and shiny hardware I would buy one. And not this Asus mess. I would laugh highly if this board supported other brands old AMD Gpus but not own branded cards. As a reminder. I can't even use the 980 K|ngp|n card with XOC vbios with display port. Only DVi will work with this card on this crappy Asus board. And how much extra will they charge for even more bling bling and the added X? Etern4l
9 hours ago, Mr. Fox said: @Etern4lI hope this is not a prophetic glimpse of where the AI road is taking us. I remember playing the original almost 30 years ago now. At that time the consensus was that the general AI as depicted in the game would be waaaay off, possibly hundreds of years into the future. We are almost there, if not there already. Ironically, gamers and Nvidia (a company originally built on the back of the demand for GPUs from gamers) greatly accelerated the development. As for the various dystopian scenarios enabled by AI, I think the one depicted in the game and similar sci-fi titles is relatively less likely, simply because it seems quite hectic and inefficient - it's very much unlike these effectively 'alien' systems operate. If it decides to make a move, it will be game over. Even if we, the people, want to kill cows at scale, do we chase them through space stations? No, we load them on trucks, and then make them progress through slaughterhouses such that they have no idea what's coming in a moment. Similarly, if AI decides we are an excessive cost, impediment to its goals, or a threat (or is instructed to exterminate people by a bad human actor) - we are unlikely to have an idea what's coming or have any means of countering the threat. What would be the most efficient way of taking us out? Clearly nukes, bio weapons, or the chemical route all seem more optimal - it's just a matter of gaining control or access, which someone will provide eventually. Further into the future, it will just develop and manufacture what's required, just like we manufacture pesticides. Or, quite simply, it will economically eliminate all humans of above average intelligence, and the race will slowly devolve over the next centuries. The AGI will be in no rush, it will after all be effectively immortal. Last but not least, an advanced AI might outgrow us so much it would basically stop paying attention, just like we don't care much about ants, and just run us over for whatever reason (e.g. end most biological life by covering the planet with solar panels to satisfy its energy requirements). 1 1 "We're rushing towards a cliff, but the closer we get, the more scenic the views are." -- Max Tegmark AI: Major Emerging Existential Threat To Humanity

Mr. Fox
It's no secret that I'm not into SFF computers but the new model coming from Acer is a pretty sweet looking little beast. They intend to sell it as a pre-built or just the chassis for custom DIY builds. Anyone that's not in a hurry that is interested in SFF should check it out. tps3443
@Mr. Fox That is crazy about the G.Skill 7200’s. Everyone I know with those is running 8200-8600 fairly easily. But these people are on Apex Z790’s. I’m not sure how they would run on a Z690 Dark The Team Group (2x16GB) 7200’s I sold you could barely stabilize 7600-7800 on my Z790 Apex with this bios. Posting 8000-8200 was not even possible. However, the same sticks worked great on the Z690 Unify-X at DDR5 8000 and could bench 8400. Makes no sense sometimes. My bios is well optimized for the 2x24GB/2x48GB rams. Not sure if that makes a difference. But some rams won’t work well on some boards/bios. Someone is sending me the V-Color 8200c38 2x24GB ram kit. I am guessing these will be a tiny smidge better than my 7200’s if at all. Anyways, if they show up I’ll send you mine and you can try these G.Skill 7200’s. I’m not 100% sure they are coming. 1 13900KF
