First look at Matrix PCB and it is identical to the Strix. De8auer is guessing they're just binning Strix cards for the Matrix cards.....

Edit: Actual differences here (new temp sensors in unison with Asus software), MPS power stages but still same rating, different inductors with significantly less coil whine.

Will Asus do as Gigabyte and make revisions number for the "new" Strix cards so people can avoid buying their old cards that struggle with coil whine? Or will this also be one extra part in the lottery when you buy their Asus Strix cards? See it this way.... You can loose in the silicon lotter, vram lottery and now the coil whine lottery. I wonder how many will win in all 3😎

I updated my post, but I am most curious about the Asus in house Boost Master software. Does it come with the Matrix? Or is the card locked and the software is only available to select users? Will it work elsewhere?

My best guess... Nope. Asus don't want loads of RMA cases due people try feed +1.5v to the GPU cores.

I find the same thing with laptops, they bin them exactly the same way or randomly. putting good and bad chips in laptops and its basically a lottery if you get a great overclocker, but overall at least 99 percent of them can overclock a bit. But when your paying 30-50 percent more it's inexcusable to get something thats poor at overclocking or the same, you pay more for the quality not the flipping rgb lights.  here is a perfect example of why I overclock. I got death stranding and was averaging 57 fps and its a pretty consistent framerate in this game, it doesn't fluctuate very much. but I applied my 3d mark overclock and BAM Im now locked in at 60fps. sometimes all you need is that little push and realisation everything isn't in vain or serves one purpose.

Screenshot-14.png

also I'd like to add it's looking like a 3060ti should be the bare minimum for 4k gaming as my 3060 can only run 4-10 yearold games at 4k and decent setttings, often times all low. some pretty games like crysis look good on low others not so much.

You'd hate my 1080. This thing clocks pretty well under low voltages, but it screams under load. You can still hear it even when the fans are maxed out with Fn+1. It hates me lol.

Another example of unnecessary change for the sake of change rather than a bonafide improvement. I'd much prefer that they focus on being consistently excellent at what they already produce rather than looking for weird gimmicks that require unnecessary purchases of related products. This is as bad as, maybe even more idiotic than, the unnecessary introduction of the 12VHPWR connection.

More stupidity. Now the kids have to open the backside chassis panel to check the 12VHPWR power connector. And on top you most likely need to buy a new chassis.

Mind boggling, it would mean that the GPU is ONLY able to function in the slot they designed for it.

Now its going to be, if its pcie and it fits, it should work*

Yeah, I am not impressed or pleased with the notion of creating anything proprietary or establishing new form factors that are not a universal, industry-wide standard, or incompatible with current form factors. I view anything like that as being stupid, selfish, greedy and short-sighted. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Absolutely garbage filth that would exist in a laptop. It means you can't use these new cards in 'old' motherboards when you want to upgrade. Better throw out your old motherboard from last gen and get a new shiny board with this useless adapter. O your board burned and kill both the board and GPU? Better buy new again. Sorry that old revision doesn't work with this new GPU, gotta buy a new motherboard to buy a new GPU.

I swear if this shit happens, I'm done with PC gaming/hardware as a hobby. I'm not buying a desktop tower sized BGA laptop.

Just another scam/scheme to sell parts nobody needs. It worked with the chintzy 12VHPWR cable and ATX 3.0 PSU scam, so why not go down the same scummy path with motherboards, too?

You're spot on in your assessment. Scummy ideas from scummy people.

If you are consistently that close try this...

Open 3DMark first. Then open Task Manager. Kill explorer.exe and any other trash running in the background that is not essential. Run the benchmark. When it completes, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, start Task Manager the run explorer.exe to restore your desktop. Save the screenshot and upload the result.

If they don't find it and you want some good overclocking A-die, this is hard to beat for less than $60 per module.

Yup, that's what I am running at 8200 for my daily driver memory overclock. So far I haven't found a retail kit with or without the rainbow puke that can function as well. I'll probably stop trying. NewEgg and Amazon are probably wishing I would go away. Both have sold and received back about a dozen retail kits of defective trash from me.

I am using aftermarket Byksi heatsinks with a water block on top. BUT, I will say that the naked sticks run at least 10°C cooler than retail modules with the worthless heating blankets on them as long as air is moving across them. It's really silly how hot they get with the so-called factory heatsinks smothering them. If your SFF case has a fan close enough to keep air flowing over them they would likely do as well or better.

The inexpensive aftermarket Byksi RAM jackets also do much better than the stock heat sinks. They are MUCH heavier metal and the mass gives the heat more of a place to go than the thin aluminum heating blankets that are there to mostly look fancy. The "thermal pads" they use to stick them on are glorified two-sided Scotch tape. I am not sure how they expect them to transfer any heat.

The ones I am using on my DDR5 were made for DDR4 and I bought them before DDR5 was invented. I think the new ones made for DDR5 have a shallow notch ground out in the center to provide added clearance for the on-module voltage controller SMDs.

OK, here is something interesting. I was pretty certain that the Ghost Spectre Windows 11 mod was hindering my CPU performance. It seemed like it. So, I decided to do a deliberate comparison.

The Oprekin Lite Plus mod I am using is overall the best. Stock Windows 11 21H2 is close and Windows 10 LTSC 21H2 is essentially the same as stock Windows 11. Ghost Spectre (22H2) is garbage for CPU performance. It is a really nice mod with some cool features. But, it's not the best for benching. Maybe in part because it is based on 22H2, and we know that newer usually is NOT better when it comes to Windoze, and most other software. Newer is almost always crap.

All of my Windows installations have Defender removed. Not disabled, but removed. And, all but the Stock Windows 11 Cancer Edition have updates (including "security" updates) disabled. SO, here it is... Overall, the Oprekin Windows 11 Pro Build 21H2.2003 Lite (or Lite Plus) mod is the winner, followed closely by Windows 10 LTSC 2021 and Windows 11 21H2. Ghost Spectre comes in last overall. Ghost Spectre is the only one of the bunch that is built on 22H2.

All tests were on the same system with untouched BIOS settings and all optimized the same in terms of disabled services using ESO (Easy Services Optimizer).

Ghost Spectre fails miserably in 3DMark Physics and Combined tests. I tested this in Fire Strike initially and it was the worst. That is what prompted further investigation. It was more than a little bit worse. I also did a clean reinstall of Ghost Spectre before testing further. It made no difference.

Nice write up bro Fox. I have seen people enjoy the Ghost Spectre custom OS. And many get bad results. Those that can make it run better have probably done some changes.

I hate the rounded corners.... You have it probaly. But here it is Win11DisableOrRestoreRoundedCorners.exe

Thank you. I had that once and lost it. I also hate the round corners. They are so ugly, especially with the lack of Aeroglass transparency. I will be using it right away.

An older version of Ghost Spectre based on 21H2 might be better.

Do you know if they have any good A-die 24GB sticks? I wouldn't mind having 48GB in the system. Also the 280mm rad fans blow directly on the memory.

Thats great. Rounded corners is probably one of the worst I see with the new and shiny. I really really hate it. A such minor difference to the better is major if I want Win 11 or not on my PC. And I don't want to test out new Win 11 versions before I see a real improvement. No point in spend time with it now.

GTX 580 - 3DM 05. Got a few more points 🙂

I am not sure. I have not  checked. That is perfect with the radiator fans.

@Mr. Fox, I ordered that ram. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to get here. Mind sharing your timings? I'm not aiming for 8200 but it would be cool to be in the upper 7000s with reasonable timings.

thanks again for the link.
