One of the moderators at the old notebookreview forms kept banning him for some reason. I don't remember what his last username was but you would recognize it. He was a member of that community for a long time and he bought my my first Praxis Wetbench with the angled top. He lives in the Philippines. I think he and I both threw in our towels on the laptop trash around the same time, but he was a longtime Clevo overclocker and Prema supporter.

I was curious if he was Philipino is why I was asking. As you know my wife is from the Philippines. It'd be cool if he was on the forums here to chat with.

The RTX3090 does best with 4K/DX12 and Raytracing running and any other intensive graphics enabled, the heavier the load the better it scales. I have just started playing all of my games in 4K since the new monitor, and I’m surprised to see how small the loss in performance is going from 2560x1440 to 3840x2160. So far 68-100FPS seems to be what I get regardless of the title. No 4090 by any means but definitely serviceable.

For our buddies that like SFF, this prebuilt is interesting. I like the unfinished base.

Price wise, that is par for the course with FNW systems. I long abandoned pre-builts on desktop. I think my last pre-built was a DECpc XL 466d2 which I used till I built out a Celeron 300a (promptly OC'd to 450mhz) and I actually then turned the DECpc into my first foray into Linux in the late 90's.

I could never stomach picking up another pre-built anything on the PC side (Apple not much choice).

I like @tps3443s attitude, it not the best but its great.

I have a 4k tv im using as a monitor and a measley laptop 115w 3060. The most demanding game ive come across is a plagues tale requiem. I get 30fps avg on all low at 4k. its very playable as its a story based 3rd person action adventure. but as for slightly older titles and some new, I get at the very least 60fps lock on high, alot of older games do ultra 4k without dlss. When I got this laptop I was thinking i'd get 1080p at 40-50fps on most demanding games and after testing 1080p and seeing 165 fps and up I ended up opting for 4k. I'm just limited by the 6gb vram, alot of games at 4k require 8gb-16gb after low settings.

also found a great review on your monitor T

only drawback is it doesn't get very bright, but with oled contrast who cares.

I know it’s crazy how low the brightness is on these OLED’s TV’s and monitors. I cannot explain it other than just to try one, and you’ll see how acceptable it is. It’s so magnificent 😭 all of the light in this monitor is legit color and vividness. Plus, it’s so massive that’s all you see LOL.

Man oh man. I have been seriously missing out. I’m done with small screens forever. I think 42-43” would probably be the smallest I ever go.

OLED, or Mini-LED is all that’s acceptable from here on out.

I wish everyone could experience this.

The display looks like a colorful vivid poster in real life. Almost like you can touch the graphics. 🤷‍♂️

It may not be setting any speed records, but I finally got NVME on my desktop and it's a lot faster than SATA:

image.png.2140097ed8038bb41a1b7a420d469fc7.png

This is just putting my laptop's old SSD in the new PCIe NVME adapter I bought for $15 and running CrystalDiskMark on it.  Obviously it ought to be a bit better when it's not 96% full, nothing like a 64 GB swap file on a 512 GB disk lol.

Okay, so the random speeds are only about 50% faster than my SATA SSD, and the sequential ones 150-200% faster.  MSI definitely saved a few bucks by shipping an entry-level SSD, and it doesn't even max out my ancient desktop's PCIe 2.0 x4 connection (it wasn't any faster in the laptop either, pretty much the same).  But even an entry-level NVME is a nice boost, so I'll have to start putting my more performance-sensitive programs on it once I free up a bit more space.

Interestingly, when it was 47% full and in the laptop, the write speeds were actually slower.  Although I'm also mixing and matching versions of CrytalDiskMark so I may be comparing oranges to tangerines.

Here is what four 1TB 2.5-inch SATA SSDs perform like in a striped volume.

A review will be posted soon. I received a Sabrent 4x PCI-e 3.0 Quad NVMe M.2 card and it's working nice. You can catch a glimpse of it in that video above. That gives me a total of 7 NVMe SSDs, 5 SATA SSDs and a 3.5-inch HDD currently in use.

Yep, the shrinkind trend continue. This time Gigabyte. Or shall we rather say cost cuttings to increase profits. I have my doubt this new change from Gigabyte will offer same cooling as the older model. Skinny and thinner design usually come at a costs. This trend have we seen from Apple. And this won't bring any benefits. Maybe for those with the mini PC boxes that will run even hotter now with graphics cards that is adopted for the box design. Making graphics cards that fits the smallest PC boxes will never be a good thing @Mr. Fox Is smaller better? Why not shrink it further and make it a real 2 slots design? Nvidia allows up to above 80C so that don't stop them from more stupid design solutions.

Gigabyte Shrinks Cooler, Relocates 16-Pin Connector on Revised RTX 4090

image.png.2080fbb8ca4e9d8d74a5c4d847d5ba34.png

Gigabyte (via Twitter user Vectral) has quietly revised the brand's GeForce RTX 4090 WindForce 24G graphics card. The V2 model features a more compact design, with the 16-pin power connector transplanted to the rear of the graphics card instead of the side placement.

Why use the space for more cooling? More metal and longer heat pipes will only increease costs.

image.png.c1c3a5d79ea5c3ebdb37284f5b48ab75.png

In short what Gigabut say... Less metal and shorter heat pipes don't make worse cooling capacity... Why not remove even more of the metal and use even shorther heatpipes? They can even save more $$$....

And modern VC cost more. So why spend more money than needed for the cooling?

If your score is low in 3DM Speed Way then I expect you see similar behaviour in Port Royal as well.

As expected. Try give the GPU more headroom with lowering CPU clocks and TDP.

Back to smoke and fire....... User errors and defective adapter is an awful mix. And each by their own, is bad enough.

Posted by u/CableMod - Some Perspective on Faulty adapters by CableMod

Upon analysis, the majority of failures were due to the adapters not being fully inserted into the GPU, while other cases were indeed due to defective adapters. We cannot deny that things can go wrong during the manufacturing process - no company can guarantee a 0% failure rate. However, what we can do is help our users when such things occur.

@ryan- Port Royal and Speedway are heavily ray-traced and run at 1440p. That may be a reflection of your GPU model to a great degree. I think it would be unrealistic to expect good results on either of those benchmarks, or a smooth experience with Cyberpunk, unless you have a very potent GPU. My 6900 XT does great with rendering, but quite poorly if ray tracing is thrown into the mix. Bumping the resolution to 1440p throws yet an extra monkey-wrench into the works.

I finally decrypted my ssd. Now I have access. But with this computer I always get a negative surprise after being hack or whatever is going on lol. No clue. I was wondering if it's safe to format ssd and system partitions. I can't fix it if something happens as I only have 1 computer. Thanks in advance

So my brothers motherboard came in today. I bought it used as quality B660m boards are still too pricey for our tastes. I purchased an MSI MAG B660m Mortar for under $100.00 USD. The seller had multiple and stated that none of them had any physical damage. When the board arrived this evening, the board was in good condition, but the 4th DIMM had one of the RAM tabs completely broken off. What's annoying is that the other tab is one of those friction tabs (doesn't seat into the side of the RAM stick) and the 4th slot is needed for proper dual channel. I plan on getting a partial refund as this damage was NOT stated at all in the listing, but I just wanted to ask if the RAM should still seat alright even without this retention tab.

The RAM might have an issue staying in the slot without the lock, especially if the motherboard is vertical mounted. I would insist on replacement or refund. It was advertised as having no physical damage, so it was misrepresented.

If it is the SSD the OS is installed to you can do a clean install and let Windows Setup do the work for you. Just run a diskpart clean command and a convert GPT command and reinstall Windows. If it is a data drive, you can do the same thing or just reformat it and it should not hurt anything as long as Windows did not goof up and install the bootloader to that drive instead of the one Windows is installed to. You can confirm that is not the case by taking the drive out of the system and confirming Windows still boots normally without it. If it does, you can do whatever you want to do to that drive and it shouldn't affect your Windows installation. If you are going to do a clean install, download all of the drivers to external storage media first then the installation should be uncomplicated.
