I'm thinking of trying my hand at memory overclocking. Where would be a good place to start? I have 2 sticks of Crucial Ballistix 3200 MHz CL 16 RAM in my Clevo X170 and would like to finish the tuning to yield absolute max performance.

If you are using anything newer than Winduhz 10 v1809 I don't think it is going to work. Windowz is broken when it comes to supporting excellent software and it seems evident that they'll never fix it.

You will find it in one of the latest ASUS niche threads at HWBOT forum. It is not officially supported by ASUS anymore because of what bottom-feeding slackers the Redmond Retards have become.

Set to stock (not XMP) and keep binning up till your traces/MB/Memory (or thee above) give up the ghost. When you reach a frequency it balks at, up the Vmem/VCCSA. Use TM5 as a quick check for stability at each interval. Once you've established your motherboard's maximum frequency support then start dialing in timings adjusting each setting and retesting.

That is what I learned on my P870TM1-G (courtesy of @jc_denton and @johnksss) and translated it to the X170SM. They helped a lot.

@electrosofthave you tried MSI Dragon Ball? If it works, I personally think it is WAY BETTER than ASUS MemTweakit. More features and everything on a single page instead of tabbed pages.

It worked flawlessly on the Strix mobo I sold to Brother @Reciever but doesn't work on EVGA mobos.

I remember it working fine on my older version of W10 LTSC but I only have an older version that just gets to the start up screen and does nothing so I didn't know if it was updated. I'll check to see if Asrock configurator at least can get going.

I have a version of it, and I think @Papusanposted a link to it a few days ago in this thread. It was right when @Recievergot his system fired up and was asking for suggestions. I will look for it for you.

There is a chance it has something to do with the version of Windows and the version of Intel ME more than the mobo/chipset, and the newer the filth the more likely it is that stuff is broken. When the people making Windowz are all idiot losers that care more about stupid **** like touch screens and emojies there is not much hope for a better tomorrow on a Winduhz platform.

Windows is definitely regressing for anyone who wants to perpetually stay under the hood. It's really starting to irk me and Ubuntu is feeling more and more like home should be. For the general masses with W1X it is all roses I suppose.

Darcoder finally emailed me back last night.

He said he still has everything but might not have the pump anymore, but that's no big deal. He also said I'd just have to pay for shipping because it's basically impossible to find anyone but me who wants it and he just needs it gone. Pretty nice of him 🙂

If there is no pump, what are some decent "cheaper" pumps that would suffice. It doesn't need to move much water since its only cooling the CPU and the tubing is really, really small.

That's nice of him. I would recommend getting a D5 pump and tube reservoir combo. You can mount it directly to whatever radiator you choose to use and it will make organization of the wiring and tubing easier than having it loose as a separate component. Primochill makes some very nice pump/res combos and they sell the fan/radiator mount brackets, tubing and fittings as well. One-stop shopping. The hardest thing might be finding fiting to fit tubing of such a small diameter.

Finally had time to dial down and focus on tuning these 2x16GB 4000 G.Skill sticks from @Mr. Fox

Yet another lesson why you don't let Asus optimize anything in their BIOS:

A day or so of testing and dialing in soft primaries and halfway through the terts (still a work in progress):

I told him about the forums, he never told me if he would join, but I assume he will in the near future as it will be easier to contact me. He's been really busy the past few months, and told me he didn't know there were new forums, so now he's aware 🙂

I'll have to give that a try too. Mem TweakIt goes nowhere atm on both my Z590 and Z690.

MemTweakIt 20210910 as the zip below is the latest offered from the OC community. There is another site who offer a newer verson ASUS MemTweakIt v20220317 (as well older versions). But I can't go good for that site (though, bianbao.dev is on the bot). Not many mention this version. But v20220317 shows up as clean in VirusTotal analysis.

Edit. More research. bianbao is an Asus employee.

I would check in your laptops BIOS.

DDR3 sodimm memory was painful to overclock, DDR4 became much easier but IIRC still quite manufacturer dependent.

Just about every off the shelf set I tested in my P870TM had little no no headroom. Maybe 3333 tops on some but with so so timings at best. I was able to run Corsair 3800 C18 sticks at 3467 in my P870TM-1 but my X170SM-G will only hit 3200 with them.

This is a pretty cool self-contained unit that is no more expensive than buying separate components. It is unfortunate that it is only a 120mm radiator. Too small to be useful/effective with such a mickey mouse radiator. It is sad that it is not at least 240mm. Looks like it is designed for liquid cooling laptops though.

You could easily build something like this yourself with very basic tools and standard PC cooling parts and use a 240 or 360mm radiator.

That's about par for the course with laptops. They are not built for that. There is just barely enough room for the basics, and the effort to keep the chassis smaller and lighter just adds more physical limitations. Even the Clevo DTRs with desktop CPUs were not designed by people motivated or driven by a passion for tuning and overclocking. The utterly worthless stock firmware is the first clue that they really just don't get it, and don't care. And, that is/was the best the industry has to offer. Now even that is gone and there is nothing left that is worth modding. These are very dark days for laptop enthusiasts, and the abyss mobile computing has fallen into is bottomless.

I just LOVE exposing all of the lies and gimmicks about Windows 10+ being needed to support gamerboy crap. Another fake system requirement exposed. Myth busted.

Behold! Windows 7 with Resizable Bar support enabled and working. This was not because I care that much about the feature, I just wanted to show another example of the Redmond Retards being liars.

It is funny that EVGA Precision X1 "assumes" the BIOS has CSM/Legacy mode enabled. It does not. GPU-Z, NVIDIA Control Panel and PX1 all show Rebar is enabled.
