iirc Eurocom does offer "unlocked" bios versions. theyre not as good as Prema Magic, of course, but still offer more than full stock. do you sport one of those?

her? 😄

if one cannot change anything about the hardware, i.e. getting new RAM sticks / new CPU, then u might wanna look into RAM temps, as well. reducing RAM temps under load can help a ton with stability under OC conditions. would involve some modding though, i.e. drilling holes into the bottom cover, using a cooler stand or implementing an additional fan for extra airflow across the modules.

I only have a Prema BIOS, which is my "dream" (but I think it will remain so)😏

The avatar is the protagonist of the game Carmageddon (1997) (MaxDamage) 😛😄

I will look at dSanke Unlocker, but at the moment my computer is fine as it is, Obsidian (Full) works properly.

Prema not available anywhere? Can't even write him a message? I would talk to him, but I can't find a way... Can anyone help me with this? I understand that PremaBIOS is available (completed) for the X170SM-G machine, or not?😔

Can this heatsink also be used with air drive? So if I don't have a water system for it yet, can it still be used as an air cooler? (is it still full value or completely useless?):icons8-flushed-face-100:

Yes it can be used stand alone. The idea is when you're at home or near your res/pump you can just quickly connect and get better performance / less noise.

There sure are, but none that you can put in this laptop unfortunately.😞

You can use an eGPU with this laptop through the thunderbolt port, but I personally don't see a point in doing so. If You wanted to though, the 6700 XT is as powerful or more powerful as the 2080 Super depending on the game. Anything higher tier than the 6700 XT (6750XT, 6800, 6800 XT, and 6900 XT), is an upgrade over the 2080 Super.

Welcome to the club brother!

I did a detailed test and I have to say, the eGPU is not worth it, because the loss of PCIe speed (even though the card is 4.0 x16) is huge compared to the speed of the MXM port! RTX 3090 Aorus Gaming BOX that I tried and under 4K/8K (tests) there was a really noticeable difference in favor of the 3090!

What about through one of the m.2 slots? I know there are some eGPU adapters/enclosures that connect to a laptop through an m.2 slot, which gives 4 PCIE lanes. I'd imagine there'd still be a big hit to performance, but not as much as through the thunderbolt port.

What I don't understand is why haven't anyone made an EGPU setup through one of the P870 MXM slots... No major PCI-E bottleneck there.

For M.2 and Thunderbolt, nobody should ever bother with it unless its some extreme edge case where it actually makes sense, but 99% of the time it won't.

(Coming from someone who put his heart and soul in trying to make EGPU setups be actually worthwhile)

I don't know, I couldn't find a test for it, but it might be slightly better than the TB3 port... good question.😊

I have a friend who uses a desktop VGA connected to the MXM port and it can be fully used, just like the desktop card (100%), it just needs an external power supply and the MXM conversion unit.

He has a Clevo P751TM1 machine.

There is no image on the laptop's own display, only using an external monitor.

How much is Direct-Die worth for an X170 machine? 🙄

i9 was delideled for me. It runs quite well if it had better cooling.

There's a MXM 3.0b to PCIe 3.0 X16 adapter that exists in China. One of our members in AW Club has one. He ran a 6900 XT in M18xR2 if I remember correctly.

BTW Does anyone know if the i9 10980HK LGA version from China works in X170SM-G? I think @ViktorVis using one in P870TM or something.

EDIT: Just realized it's 8 cores lol, 10900K or KF it is.

If MXM / PCIe x16 is used, the X170 heatsink GPU part would have to be converted and a cutout would also have to be made on the back panel. 😀

you guys use a decent fan control software? not exactly a fan of obsidian's ( the reverse dust clearing mode gets borked easily for instance) nor of the stock clevo one

I use both Win10 Pro and Win11 Pro systems and Obsidian FAN Control is used. (along with other Obsidian programs)

Sometimes it's the Win Update that interferes, or the lack of nV Driver Update (then it doesn't show the GPU temperature)

Hi, can you send me a screenshot from your 200W 2080S under TimeSpy?

180MHz overclock on Core?!?!

Is it stable? =D That's a bit of a insane overclock. I also ran my memory at 2000MHz for almost since I got it but I think it recently led to some instablity in Fortnite with the new engine and I had to turn it down by 25MHz to get stable (for now anyway).

I can do +175 MHz on the core clocks on my GPU. The GPU side of the cooling system in this laptop is really good, especially if you have mods performed on the heatsink. My GPU has never risen above 149°F (65°C).

Yes, stable! TimeSpy is one of those "GPU" tests that throws you out if there is a lot of OC.
