Hey everyone, my X170-SM has no options for XMP, only Custom and Default profiles are available. Can someone give me normal bios with Xmp settings. I used Dsnake unlocker, but I don’t have XMP setting

BF658F84-DB60-49DD-A134-C52F03B46BB5.jpeg

check and see if u maybe have additional mem options somewhere else in the bios. sometimes u have redundant memory and cpu tuning settings under different submenus.

otherwise, try and read out the xmp profiles of ur sticks in windows via software (make sure they actually have xmp 😉) and then set them manually via custom profile in bios.

Where do I find the instructions for the driver modifications?

There are a lot of guides on the net for modifying the Nvidia inf driver. Or you can use the Nvcleanstall program.

People, what is the most recent unlocked bios or the only one so far, no one has installed it for themselves? I saw a person installing RTX 3080 on the forum, he had to modify the radiator.

I put 3060/3070/3080 in x170smg, I didn't modify the heatsink, I put the heatsink from x170kmg, they are compatible. You can unlock any original bios from Clevo using an unlocker, the last available bios was 1.07.04 if I'm not mistaken.

Unfortunately no. Prema has not updated his firmware to support Intel 11th gen CPUs on this laptop.

Confirmed. I even tried my old 11900k in my X170SM-G w/ the newest and final Prema and it was a no go.

I thought on the old forums he said adding 11th gen support was too problematic for the X170SM-G but maybe something changed since then? Go ahead and ask away. Worse case scenario we're in the same boat as now. 🙂

If 11th gen support hasn't been added, it wouldn't be a big deal since it's not really worth getting the 11900K over the 10900K. The latency increases really killed the IPC gains. As a result, both CPUs are pretty close in gaming performance, with the 11900K winning in some cases, but the 10900K winning in most cases. The 10900K is also undoubtedly the better productivity CPU as well, so it's the better CPU overall.

Had latency remained the same for the cache and across cores, the 11900K would be a killer gaming CPU despite the increased power requirements and lower core count. The idea seemed to be to sacrifice a few cores to significantly increase single core performance, but unfortuntely latency increases negated those gains as I said before, and most 11900Ks don't overclock very well. Sonething really went wrong with that process backport.

Also does anyone know if the 2 in 1 water/air hybrid cooler for this laptop performs any better than the modded zTecpc cooler on air only? It seems pretty interesting, but I'm not sure if it's really an upgrade on air cooling only vs the zTecpc modified heatsink. I'd much prefer a custom heatsink for this laptop with a giant unified vapor chamber for the CPU + GPU. Now that would be a big cooling upgrade!

It's been over a month and my X170SM-G is still down for the count with the defective 2080S. Zoltan got back to me from ZtecPC and Clevo said they have the card to source but it is taking forever to get it punched through and delivered.

I've been existing on my MSI GL66 Pulse 12700h/3070 for laptop use the last month or so. I've kinda adapted to it (what other choice did I have? heh).

The CPU I dubbed the "Frankenchip" and rightfully so. Still, if you can get a good sample in there depending on use case it is an upgrade for sheer IPC gains for lower threaded uses.

The hybrid heatsinks are so cheap now and support both 2000 and 3000 series it might be worth it to order one just to play around.

I never was a fan of Nvidia GPU's but with the x170smg I got the rtx2070 and right now AMD (ATI) GPU's have been in the news a lot about better performance per watt so i was wondering if there are any AMD / ATI GPU's that would be an upgrade over what Nvidia has for the 170-SM-G

There sure are, but none that you can put in this laptop unfortunately.😞

You can use an eGPU with this laptop through the thunderbolt port, but I personally don't see a point in doing so. If You wanted to though, the 6700 XT is as powerful or more powerful as the 2080 Super depending on the game. Anything higher tier than the 6700 XT (6750XT, 6800, 6800 XT, and 6900 XT), is an upgrade over the 2080 Super.

If it has a 24-core 13900HX and a RTX 4090 Mobile then I’ll get it. I love the 18” form factor. I still have my M18xR1, M18xR2 and AW 18.

im not getting the razer blade 18 as I’ve heard nothing but bad news regarding their quality/customer service. It’ll definitely be the alienware x18. If my x14 i got from black friday is any indication then I trust their 18 will be good. Every spec is sounding good from what I’ve heard 😉 just waiting to see if they put a subwoofer back in for audio.

Every laptop next year is bga unless clevo releases a lga cpu + bga gpu 15” like they do sometimes.
