on the old NBR forums someone had a link to "clean" ISO's for windows 10 and maybe 11 with all the bloatware disabled, and then they had a link to purchase afforable license keys, unfortunately that site does not sell license keys for MS products anymore. Does anyone have a place to go for those now? (Both the ISO's and key's)

yes indeed, I myself used it with a key I purchased, it was LTSC 2019, and there was also a guide to get rid of xtu and control center components.

Sounds like you are referring to LTSC

I think so but someone had taken the LTSC ISO's and turned off telemetry and all the bloatware and turned of the automatic installation of MS Edge in the ISO so it was completely clean. I am not sure where to find that information here.

I have never heard of this site, there is no malware or viruses in those builds?

haha good on you to be cautious 😄 but no, havent had any issues with their builds 🙂

also, u can just do a fresh install and test run it first before putting any of ur data on the machine. that way it doesnt matter if there are any viruses or malware.

Nah, just wait for the X170 successor that you can put your 13900K into - we need it so it has to materialize 😄

Honestly I have been considering to buy into X170 right now.  But I wonder about waiting maybe is a better idea.  And then there is MSI Gt77 titan that could try to take away the money while I wait for successor to X170.  Is there realistically nothing as a very good decision to buy today?

depends what ure looking for. at this point in time there is nothing on the horizon that would qualify as a true X170 successor. so might be that this is the last hurray for desktop-style socketed hardware in laptop space. hope im wrong though....in the end, it depends how much leeway Nvidia still gives Clevo and how much financial sense it makes for them to support such monsters.

The GT77 is still a BGA book and that is something I do not like but at the very top of GPU performance we do not have a proper all-socketed alternative at the moment.

So if you want to have top of the line now and if you also want to feel good about it there unfortunately isn't anything that will fit perfectly. When it comes to performance the GT77 will probably be best overall but you pay a hefty premium for 4 memory and storage slots each - do you need those and what do you have now?

I am always limited as I want a big screen, 128 GB of memory and at the minimum 3 storage slots which makes for very slim pickings and I have now decided to at least wait for CES in January until I make my next move - that is unless something really cheap comes my way 😄

As for a true X170 successor if I'd known that it will be coming I would tell you to wait for it but as @jaybee83points out it may not even be up to Clevo to give us a truly modular design and then there are the sales numbers for the X170 that may or may not have been good enough to consider a successor.

I offer my self-developed adapters to screw the RTX30xx series in the X170SM.
If someone is interested, just write me!
You do not have to replace the heatsink.
I also work on the old heatsink to get the best cooling performance.

This type of promotion is not permitted.

If you want to share what you can do make a thread for it and if people ask for the service independently that will be fine.

Thanks

Hi, all! Can anyone share the Prema BIOS for X170SM?

Prema is only available on select models that were sold from Prema Partners.

You could try contacting Prema directly for some help but the BIOS is not available for general distribution.

This topic has been bubbling around the forums quite a bit so I think I will need to make some "policy" changes regarding PremaMod.

It is my understanding that Prema would prefer PremaMod to not be distributed publicly as (again, my understanding currently) people and companies would steal his work and use it for their own profits as well as user detriment as there were some resulting in laptop failure.

As I have great respect for the work that Prema (aka PremaMod) has done for really everyone over the years, I fully intend to respect Prema's wishes regarding the distribution of his work.

Any and all posts with Prema's BIOS will be deleted and appropriate infractions issued. This will be maintained until such a time that Prema decides to reverse this position. Now, as @electrosoft has noted, you can always reach out to Prema and hope for the best. If you locate Prema's BIOS elsewhere obviously that is your own decision, however, do not share that here.

Lastly, I know it is unreasonable to punish for simply inquiring to the BIOS from Prema. Nothing wrong with asking, believe me, I too, seek to make the most of my systems just as much as anyone else.

What I would recommend is seeking out DSANKE's sBIOS and looking over that as my current understanding is that is free for distribution of which I believe is linked in this thread. Do your own research, as always with modifications YMMV.

Thanks for your understanding

Well, my 2080 Super is dying.....

Grabbed a 1060 for testing and it boots fine.

I get artifacts even in BIOS and once powered on.

Going to decide if I am going to replace it, upgrade it or sell the laptop / piece it out. We'll see....

Oy....

Ooh...Code 43, sadly, but maybe everything is not so bad, I often saw such artifacts with a broken video memory, it was solved by replacing the wrong memory strips. There were also cases that the k5 mosfet on the video card was the culprit, it was decided by replacing all the k5s, since it is rather difficult to determine exactly the faulty one.

Yeah, one moment it was working fine then a blank screen, reboot and code 43 and artifacts. Same way my old 970m went to the big GPU afterlife lol.

Checking through my paperwork and it looks like the fine gent I originally purchased it from had purchased the 3 year extended accidental warranty so it is covered till November 2023.

Time to contact ZtecPC support.....

Donald still with ztechPC?

I think Donald is retired now. I've missed him around these parts. 😞 Maybe Zoltan still works there but I'm not sure.

I fired off an email to support so we'll see tomorrow what unfolds. Best case scenario is I'd love for them to just let me cross swap the GPU and install it myself as I have everything fine tuned. Worse case I'll pull my SSDs and memory, swap back in their stock stuff and send it to them for a long, protracted repair process.

Well worse case would actually be them not having the proper GPU in stock for replacement....

I ran my X170SM-G ice cold and usually undervolted for better fans. One moment it was working and, boom, black screen, reboot then artifact city (which comes and goes) but what stays consistent is our good old friend Code 43. 🙂

@ViktorV is right with the diagnostic. Most of the times code 43 and those kind of artifacts leads to a memory bank (or more) with cold joints or ripped pads underneath. Get MATS, run it and post the results.

wait, are those the same Donald & Zoltan that used to work over at HIDEvolution? No idea if theyre still around though, but back in the NBR day they were basically the EVGA for Clevos with tons of custom upgrades available (but also at premium pricing).

Yeah, Donald has an excellent relationship with the community generally. There were a couple of times that i recall some were not happy with Donald but I believe most of those cases were resolved behind the curtain.
