Official Clevo X170KM-G Thread

@MD87 The Socket pin part seems ok on one just a simple bit of tweaking however the one that bent right back on itself might be tricky else its a socket replacement.

When you say the case on back was broken are you talking about the very end corners if so its not broken per say its missing a little foam bumper to hold the clip in as mine has done that too.

Cleaning wise, my OCD is triggering right now man (Must resist the urge!)

As for BIOS when you say Unlock you mean like revel everything or a true unlock where the functions work proper?

The project just started. It´s delayed because my other project with a Corsair 1000d, Asus Extreme Glacial and 12900KS wasn´t finished.

First impression: This thing runs hot as hell. I did the first Benchmarks to get the stock performance.

Then I took a closer look and opened it:

The case was broken on the back. Some screws were missing and most of the screws were not screwed in tight. I was able to screw out the cpu and gpu screws with my fingers. There wasn´t really much pressure on the heatsink.

First photos:

image.thumb.jpeg.bc6045011b2c10a135ca2e15f2d7344d.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.48c4aff8996bb708ed5a2f853a80c370.jpegimage.thumb.jpeg.6f52e2b000da53621060b2d3dd334e32.jpegimage.thumb.jpeg.40a8d4eeff4ef731ffce5bff54fa3a9b.jpegimage.thumb.jpeg.6c8f0f69199540d54175ce9568558a1f.jpegimage.thumb.jpeg.26fa73f87bf8a6d6d2582573c8994f14.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.f586a42d2e05eb1b99c272be3a36dd1a.jpeg

 Next steps:

- Fix the socket

- Delid the CPU

- Fix the case

- Clean it

- Swap Keyboard

- Update BIOS and EC and unlock it

- Maybe modify the heatsink

Socket should be a quick fix with a mechanical pencil or sewing needle (my preferred tools for fixing bent pins).

I know on my X170SM-G I ended up replacing the screws with another set that fixed a pairing issue.

The back corner of my bottom cover was loose too like it had become loose. I just left it but a touch of super glue would tighten it back up

Sounds like a fun project, keep us up to date on the enhancements!

The back bottom part of the cover has like a foam stopper on it to jam the clip in place but yes i can see glue being effective too.

Any one running M.2 Heatsinks on this laptop? If so where did you get them from as my SSD on PCI-E 4.0 is sitting at 60c on a WD SN750 whilst the PCI-E 3.0 ones are at 55c without load.

Hey

Bought for 2400 bucks Clevo x170KMG rtx 3080 I7 11700K

While CPu running OK, GPU running hot at 1350MHZ and 86 degree on 95-99% load, only at 115W draw, which is bullshit

I heard that this laptop has issue with cooling system - need some screws mods to tighten it up, could someone help me?

Check to see if a thermal pad hasn't doubled itself up thus making incorrect contact on the GPU die as that is normally the case for a GPU running hot in this system.

Not totally related to the X170KM itself but I bought a RTX 2070 refresh for the X170KM and it works great in my P775DM3-G with dsanke bios from the P775TM1-G. Everything is working, even g-sync. Just out of curiosity 🙂

Has anyone taken the motherboard out of this to upgrade the RAM under the keyboard?  I have an additional 64GB that I need to put in here and I don't want to break this thing....

You don't  have to take your motherboard out to upgrade the ram. Two screws to lift up the keyboard and the ram slots are right underneath.

Hi, system is going fine. Wasn't brave enough to remove the fans but don't need to as temps are fine, removed excess dust and make sure the anti dust fans are on. Left the current BIOS as it is.

No problem. 🙂 Just be aware depending on ram frequency the KM can be real finicky with all 4 slots populated. Let us know if you have any problems and we'll get it sorted out one way or the other on your march to 128GB. 😄

So far so good!  I'm running Debian on this guy with a 10th Gen i9.  I was able to create a RAMDisk and have some screaming fast VMs running in a sandbox CTF network.  🙂    I just need to remember to copy the VMs back to SSD before shutting down.  😄

Can someone test something for me?

At the moment i often use RDP from a way smaller notebook to access the X170KM-G.

So, i start the X170KM-G and close the cover. First logon is from RDP. If i do the first logon from RDP, the Clevo ControCenter don't start. So the Fan-Control is not working and also not the power modes.

If i do the first logon physical on the X170KM-G, CC starts and all is fine.

Thats really bad, because in the future, i want to start the X170KM-G with WOL. But when i have no fan and power control, its useless.

You could alway use task schedular. But i will give it a test in a bit.
It might be how Clevo setup the software to stop someone using a RAT from controlling the laptop in terms of accessing CCC due to the Overclocking section.

Update: Just tested it did the same to me as well. However i could simply run the Control center application and it works after that. So use task schedular to open the application on login should do the trick.

So after some kind help from a user on Discord, i have now got my WD SN750 with a heatsink keeping it now well cool, where was getting 62-69c, i now get 55c tops. On top of that i removed the black covering from the Tripple M.2 slots and the glue (Why Clevo WHY!), which has reduced them temps froms 59c to 47c.

Best suggestion is to give it a bath in isopropyl before attempting it as that glue to nasty! Make sure you take pads off before hand though.

Score another one for ZtecPC. While breaking down my SM to test my Silicon Lottery 10900k vs an LTX Golden Sample 10900k I decided to remove the tape/gunk and it was already removed and cleaned. They really did their homework looking to optimize the SM as much as possible.

New user here.  Refugee from the old notebook forum.

I'm interested in upgrading my P775 to an X-170KM.   I have a few questions if anyone could help me out.

1.  My main complaint with the P775 is the DC connector.  There is no positive lock on it.  It falls out all the time.  Has this been fixed with the new rectangular plugs?  Do they positively lock in?

2. Is anyone using the 780W PS instead of the 2 supplied bricks?  How does it work?

3.  Any build/fit and finish issues that seem to commonly be bad with this model?

4.  Any word from Clevo is there is another DTR coming?  I guess I do not mind 11th gen processor with a 3080, but if a newer model with later parts is right around the corner, it'd be a bad time to buy.

5.  The KM model does not have any more advantageous BIOS out like Prema does it?

Thanks in advance.
