Hi guys

Anyone know where to get another power adapter module (bracket) mine broke in transit?  Yep gone crazy and bought the X170KM from XMG to replace my X170SM!

Also do the KM amd SM share the same power adapters?  They seem the same...

image.jpeg

Yup, the power adapters are exactly the same as the ones used with the X170SM-G.

So tomorrow i should have the correct 2K 165hz G-Sync NY2 screen. I can't give details but PCS are fecking legends i tell you.

Now to find a controller board and frame for the NY6 screen.

I've also got the QHD 165hz screen and can't deny it looks better than the FHD one, need to get used to the scaling.  Windows has a recommended 150% which looks a bit zoomed in and 125% is a bit zoomed out but still looks good due to higher resolution.  Maybe there is a way for something in-between like 130%.

What have you used for your scale?

You can go into Advanced Scaling on Display Settings to set any value you want. I did 110% for a while, don't recall any major issues but reverted to a preset in hope of better stability.

What stability issues did you encounter?

And thank you for the suggestion.

@wilpangYep the Difference between NY2 and NY6 is also day and night.

However i think i need the VBIOS updating as G-Sync is not working at all for the NY2 even after flashing either 1.07.07 or 1.07.08 from XMG or PCS which is odd however the issue i had with the NY6 panel is now gone.

As for Display setting i am too on 125% as 150% is not right even if Windows says it is.

As far as I know, all mxm cards of the 30 series from Clevo have G-sync support and no vbios without G-sync support. Therefore, I think that changing vbios will not help much, and it’s quite difficult to find another vbios for these cards, there is only free access one version of vbios for these cards. What is your video card ID?

Video Card ID is 10DE 24DD 1558 7715.

VBIOS 94.04.46.00.09

Just been given a ne VBIOS from PCS which still left the system without G-Sync with NY2 panel which is G-Sync enabled.

Bios and EC have been updated to the latest as well.

What I have noticed is VRR has gone in Windows not sure why.

Yep VBIOS i have is G-Sync supported, i think i have narrowed down the issue itself.

After asking the question on XMG's discord for someone with a 2K Panel with G-Sync enabled i got the reply of

Monitor Name (Manuf):             BOE CQ       NE173QHM-NY2
Monitor Name:                     BOE [Unknown Model: BOE09D9]

Whilst my panel is

Monitor Name (Manuf):             BOE CQ       NE173QHM-NY2
Monitor Name:                     BOE [Unknown Model: BOE0977]

I tihnk the Monitor model is difference is what is causing the issue even though the panel i have is a G-Sync panel.

Not only that VRR option has gone missing in Windows too.

As i am on the latest VBIOS, EC firmware, System Firmware this is the only thing left which means i wasn't so lucky after all.

Seems XMG uses these screen with BOE09D9, will see what Clevo says as SI has contacted them about the issue.

Today i stopped my experience with liquid metal.

In the first weeks, it was very good but the temperatures raised from month to month more and more.

In the last time it was crazy. When i started FurMark, the GPU temp jumped up from 50 to 80.

The liquid metal was hard to remove. I even had to sand down the heatsink... Now i use Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme (thermal paste) and it works way better as the "old" liquid metal. Idle temp drops from 55°C to 44°C (10% fan offset).

Don't try it with liquid metal.

The reason this happened is because the liquid metal leeched into the copper on your heatsink. The first application will do this, but subsequent applications won't.

Usually what you want to do is soak the copper with some liquid metal by applying some to the heatsink and letting it absorb in before doing another application of liquid metal and screwing the heatsink back in.

Once the copper is saturated, your liquid metal applications will stop leeching into the copper, and your temperatures will stay the same.

During my first foray into liquid metal, I actually applied too much, which ended up being a good thing since the liquid metal leeched into the copper, but there was enough left over that temperatures stayed the same. I'd say try again because you'll get better longevity out of the second application.

Having used LM on numerous laptops and some desktops, I'm only using it when one (or both) parts are nickel coated. It just isn't worth the long term hassle of soak and when too much air gets in over time the hardening and having to scrape or sand that mess off.

I'll also use it for very short term benching to get the best results possible within a limited time frame before cleaning it off and switching back to traditional TIM.

I've had LM harden and cluster on top of a few Intel stock IHS and had to scrape/sand it off too. True about the soak. I just always knew as soon as temps went all cattywampus it has started to soak and would get in there a few days later and apply some extra.

For laptops, I'm content with standard thermal compounds on top both the GPU and CPU even if it costs me some performance and degrees at this point.

For me, I only use liquid metal between the CPU die and its direct contact surface, such as the CPU IHS, or the heatsink in the case of a bare die setup.

Like water, the surface tension of liquid metal will hold it in place if there is a small amount of it. In the case of the CPU IHS, there's also the added insurance of the IHS stopping any liquid metal that spills off the CPU die, but it's highly unlikely that would happen anyway.

I don't think GPUs need liquid metal. They aren't as thermally dense as CPUs, so I don't tinker with their cooling setups on the desktop side. With laptops, I apply some Phobya Nanogrease and it's good to go!

That hardened liquid metal you're talking about sounds very annoying. I haven't had that happen to me yet.

Oh then we are in agreement. I use LM between the die and internal IHS.

I usually tape off the area internally to match the die perimeter so it is exacting and put a thin coating of LM on both sides so run off is close to zero.

I never use LM on my GPU dies either.

I *will* experiment with kingpin and TGx versus nano if I have a good enough pairing but when in doubt it is always Phobya nanogrease too.

I seal my IHS lids and I've never had the problem internally but externally IHS->Heatsink? It's happened a few times ugh.

The GPU die area was crazy on my heatsink. There was a thick crust and i need a razer blade to scratch the crust from it.

I'm very happy with the change back to normal thermal paste. On normal Office working, the fans are always in idle.
