If you only play games with the system - its expensive.

If you use if for 3d or CAD, its cheap (for the mobile performance) and generates a lot of money.

I generate a lot of money with it and play games 😛

I can agree on this to an extent, If your only going to game then the laptop is too expensive for this unless your into Clevo DTR Modding, Upgrading or using it to make money.

I use mine to Game, Program, Browse with many tabs, Virtual Machines etc but soley got mine for ease of Maintance in terms of upgradable CPU, GPU (Although doubt RTX 4000 series will be supported).

The GPU die area was crazy on my heatsink. There was a thick crust and i need a razer blade to scratch the crust from it.

I'm very happy with the change back to normal thermal paste. On normal Office working, the fans are always in idle.

Luckily my crusted LM was on top of the IHS for the stock 10900k but it stopped the CPU from pairing correctly with the heatsink.

I use my X170SM-G for games, regular tasks, and work.

Originally, I did buy it to just game, but I knew it would be a great tool for my eventual full time job. I needed an upgrade over my Alienware Ranger since it wasn't cutting it for high framerate gaming anymore.

Now it's being very useful in my job as well. Compile times are extremely fast and I can make builds of games real quick too. Video renders also take much less time.

Has anyone updated Windows cumulative (optional) update today?

I only ask as it seems to have reduced my volume by 50%, normally on YouTube I have it around 30% to 50%, now I need 100%.  My system is at 30% which is loud enough but not now, might do a system restore.

  • 2 weeks later...

The X170KM-G is a pain in the ass...

I bought my first game after a long to play with the X170KM-G on my 65" LG TV (UHD). I can't play with this fu.... notebook.

The game: Forza Horizon 5

The problems:

- uncontrolled shutdown
- nvlddmkm driver problems (i've tried a complete new install of the driver)

I test the game nearly 2 hours and it fucked up ~7 times.

I got a refund from steam and am considering selling the notebook. I've payed 5980 EUR for this notebook and its not possible to play a game. Thats a shame...

I am wondering if the motherboard is handling PCI-E 4.0 well.

This is a very wild guess but do you know if you can switch the GPU PCI-E to 3.0 mode and see if it still is crashing?

Do you have a game crashing to your desktop or does your laptop suddenly shut down and then remove the battery to start your laptop?

Does anyone else have an issue with Subwoofer, popping then cutting out??

Going to try reinstalling the Audio drivers, just happened to me two beats of bass then pop can cutout have to reboot to get it to work again for two beats before popping again.

As for power issue of uncontrolled shutdown, check SSD temps as that might cause system to shutdown uncontrolled. Else update the bios and ec if your not on the latest which is 1.07.08 bios and 1.07.04 for ec.

I have noticed after updates occasionally my sound volume is weaker and 'flat'.

However, if I open the Sound Blaster Connect app I use for Equalizer settings once after updating the sound returns to normal permanently. It's as if the profile I use for sound gets erased after some updates, but opening the app re-enables it. Not sure if this is helpful or if you also use a similar sound control app but hopefully worth mentioning.

I do have the Sound Blaster Atlas installed and forgot about that but for some reason, I can't connect to my device, may need to reinstall Realtek Audio.

Your going to need Display Driver Uninstaller and Driver Store Explorer [RAPR].

Disconnect from the internet (Yes Microsoft will install the drivers back on like the muppets they are)

Firstly Press Win+R and type appwiz.cpl , then find Realtek Audio driver and uninstall it, don't reboot just yet.

Secondly run Driver Store Explorer [RAPR] and look for the follwing inf files.

creativeextensiontongfang.inf

creativeextensionclevo.inf

creativeextensionacer.inf

creativeextensionrs6.inf

creativecomponet.inf

creativesbconnect.inf

Make sure to tick them and then tick force Deletion and then Press the delete Driver(s) button.

Once this is done, run DDU in normal mode Select Audio and then REALTEK (WIP) Press the Clean and do NOT restart button after this has completed change the REALTEK (WIP) to SOUNDBLASTER (WIP) and select Clean and Restart.

Once rebooted making sure your still offline (NO internet connection)

Install the Realtek Audio Driver and reboot, once you have booted back up then run the Setup.bat file in the 09_SBX folder and let it reboot after its completed.

It should then work if it doesn't install the UWP's for Sound Blaster Atlas you can redownload it via the Windows Store or via this direct link https://download.schenker-tech.de/package/xmg-ultra-17-id-xul17e21/?wpdmdl=3947&ind=1639668133724 (XMG Link)

This will then get it working again. The restart between installing the audio driver and installing the SBX is important!

guys: check in Device Manager (devmgmt.msc), expand the Sound, video and game controllers section, click on Realtek(R) Audio to view its properties and check the driver version that is currently installed on there.

the provided Realtek audio driver for Clevo X170KM-G (v6.0.9225.1) just doesn't quite have great sound quality folks.  audio driver versions from 6.0.9225.1 to 6.0.9235.1 are mediocre at best.  at least v6.0.9238.1 & some greater versions have improved sound quality.

perhaps try these Realtek audio driver versions on the X170KM-G laptop: v6.0.9285.1, v6.0.9297.1 or v6.0.9319.1  or even v6.0.9357.1

and forget about that 09_SBX folder - that has outdated Creative Audio Effects component driver (I think it's version 2.1.1.0).  get a newer version of that (like v2.1.10.0) from here.

also, use wushowhide.diagcab, wumgr or WUMT (windows update minitool) to hide/block driver updates from Microsoft.  don't use Win10/Win11 without any or all of these 3rd party update tools.

Thank you for the guide, it's all now working bit of a ballache but working none the less, seems better volume wise as I had to crank it up to 50% which is really loud in games, back down to 30% which was my default.
