M17xR3 doesn't have UEFI, it has some sort of UEFI wrapper which causes issues with any GPU newer than 800M to not post. WX7100 works because AMD's UEFI vBIOS is different. Yeah I know that. But will it display in the bios too? I was more curious on this. Just sad the R3 bios is limited. The M6600 has UEFI correct? I think so, because someone managed to get an RTX Turing to display on the eDP screen. Edited September 19 by SuperMG

The mux switches are making everything complicated too, it's very hard to do physical mods. Haha I wasn't going to give up that easy friend ! So I did get it to work ==> eDP screen connected directly to a pascal GPU in the MXM slot ! (but not in the way I planned ... ) So I solder blobed the PNL_PWR_EN + PNL_BL_EN + PNL_BL_PWM (pins 23, 25, 27 on the MXM slot respectively) and connected them to 3.3v. The screen still turns off if I close the lid or put the laptop to sleep, but no suprise the brightness control is stuck at 100% (maybe adding an external arduino or micro controller to send a PWM to control backlight as a fix ??) HOWEVER the 1060M has NO DP ON PORT DP_C, only HDMi !! so with the 1060M in the slot, turning on the laptop gives me 1 second of white lines then black screen. I checked multiple bios and schematics of laptop that use soldered and MXM 1060M. All those that I saw have freaking HDMi on DP_C (pic below of a clevo motherboard, IFPC = DP_C for soldered GPUs) I'm starting to think that the 1060M doesn't have the capabilities for DP on DP_C, the only evidence that I found is that on the MSI GT72VR schematic (pic below) that uses a 1060M MXM, it looks like it should have DP on DP_C. Anyone has a vbios of GT72VR 1060 MXM ? It then gets fed into a SN75DP159 chip that has it's input as HDMI signals so I'm guessing that GT72VR 1060 MXM vbios has dual mode DP on DP_C (?) Anyway I got a for parts precision 7720 with a P3000 MXM gpu (45 euros for the whole laptop what a steal !), looking at it's schematic, the vBIOS of the p3000 should have DP on port C to meet the requirements of the 7720 schematic bloc diagram (pic below). And what do you know, it outputs directly to the eDP screen of the zbook 17 g3 !!! (Finally, I was starting to feel that the zbook 17 g3 was cursed after hours of searching for a DP on DP_C vbios...) So the technique of soldering the 3 PNL_ signals to 3.3v should allow any GPU that has DP (Display port) or eDP output on the same path as the eDP connector for the laptop screen (usually DP_D but for my zbook it's DP_C) will work. Thanks again @SuperMG for pointing me in the right direction. Also, I flashed the p3000 vBIOS on the 1060M with a programmer to see if it would at least display but still nothing. 1 Precision M6700 : i7-3740QM, M3000M, 20gb DDR3, FHD ips dreamcolor, delta fans Zbook 17 g3 : i7-6820HQ, GTX 1060 (Zotac zbox card), 8gb DDR4 (for now), FHD ips
SuperMG
Hello. Nice. So you got your MXM GPU with a basic DP out (not eDP) on DP_C to display on your eDP screen? And it worked like that? Does your laptop have a resistor or a PWM transistor on the motherboard? It's usually called BRIGHTNESS_R on Clevo. Could you remind me again what's the brand of your GTX 1060M? Zotac, right? Is it made for a laptop or for embedded use only? (Desktop, external output only). So you ended up using the P3000? Rather than the 1060M? You can maybe find a vbios that can allow DP_C for DP? Yes the backlight mod works for these cards since for no reasons they lack it... It's 3.3V power to the 3 pins. We're sending power to the 3 pins. By looking at the MXM slot diagrams, you see that these 3 pins are going the LCD connector at the end and NOT TO THE MXM CARD ITSELF!! You can also buy an RTX 4060/4070 from ZRT/X-VSION and have full eDP support. And I also said this before you comment now: There were 2 ways to bring "eDP support" Buy an RTX 3000/4000/5000 from HP, they have DP on all ports even on C. Or do the backlight mod by soldering. On 9/17/2025 at 9:42 PM, SuperMG said: I would rather change. Look at the Clevo X7200, there's probably a whitelist for the GPU on the master slot, because the GTX 700 and above won't work. The Zbook G2 and G3 have the eDP on DP_C. I don't even know if there are any Pascal Vbios who use eDP on DP_C... But he can try the Quadro RTX Turing from HP because they all have DP on every ports and even DP_C Although, If he really want to use his GTX 1060M... I know one only way to convert "eDP/DP" DP_D to DP_C... Edit: I found a vbios for GTX 1060 for the MSI GT72VR: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/191865/191865 Edited September 19 by SuperMG

Yes it did work, there is no PWM transitor, only a selector that choses between the MXM_PWM and PCH_PWM (pic below) 3 hours ago, SuperMG said: Could you remind me again what's the brand of your GTX 1060M? Yes, Zotac 1060 from a en1060 zbox (mini desktop), it has 2 DP and 2 HDMi so they probably used DP_C for HDMi but I'll test soon, I still have the OG vBIOS that was on the card when I got it. 3 hours ago, SuperMG said: Yes the backlight mod works for these cards since for no reasons they lack it... Hmmm, yes I know that it's the MXM gpu that sends the 3 pins to the LCD (more correctly to the switcher between MXM and PCH signals that then go to the screen). I wasn't clear ? I know that the mod consists of forcing 3.3v on these pins to make the lcd, it's backlight and it's PWM signal all show 3.3v logic... which forces them on. The lid switch is connected to ENABLET so that closing the lid turns off the screen. Switching the laptop off stops +3VS (where I connected the 3 signal pins) so that also turns off the screen, quite a complete mod honestly ! And yes I didn't want to buy an RTX card, cheapest one is 145 euros for RTX3000 (almost more than zbook 17 g3 + 1060m) 1 Precision M6700 : i7-3740QM, M3000M, 20gb DDR3, FHD ips dreamcolor, delta fans Zbook 17 g3 : i7-6820HQ, GTX 1060 (Zotac zbox card), 8gb DDR4 (for now), FHD ips

Yes, you can put a manual potentiometer on the pin 27, for PWM lol. Yes when the laptop is in sleep mode, it just offs the power, depending on the laptop. The Clevo P570WM doesn't have a MUX switch for the LCD conn (eDP) I got confused for these points here: So you didn't test the GTX 1060 MXM on the laptop yet with the backlight mod? Because you said the vbios of the 1060 has HDMI for DP_C. Because I know the P3000 MXM has the backlight pads enabled and eDP on D. I tested the 1060 MXM but got black screen with backlight on (because of the mod). I had some white static lines that popped up for 1s but the screen was black all of the time. I could hear that the laptop booted into windows, spamming shift played the "sticky keys warning" sound. What I didn't try, and I should have, is testing the p3000 without the mod to see if the DP signal from the gpu on DP_C would be displayed on the internal lcd. It would be complicated to remove my solder prob now, but not impossible, I'll see if I have the time. I'll do some more tests also, like putting 1060 inside the dell 7720 that has eDP on DP_D and seing if the 1060 outputs. I have a 1060 bios with output on D. Looking at the 1060 MXM pcb, THE 3 PNL signals are going somewhere, the tracks are connecting to deep parts of the pcb so we'll see. -OT-
Hi, great to see that someone P570 is still alive. I got LVDS, so ended with one 980M (slave slot MXM to NVME). According to I found my max for Nvidia is 980? Also asked Nvidia about LVDS support in Pascal time, but they answer was only "It depends of manufacturer". Do you know what about AMD? I was thinking about soldering connector and electronics for eDP but too much effort. SuperMG did you tested new heatsink? At OCed 980M got max ~140W in HWiNFO, temparature ~85°C, Grizzly Conductonaut. FPS limited to 78. HP Chromebook, Clevo P570, M17x R2, OCZ Whitebook, M1730, M90, M170, D900T, Toshiba 410CDT, Siemens-Nixdorf PCD-4ND, SunRace HyperBook 1000

Yeah you can do 980M (master) + 3080/4080 (slave) Or get an eDP board
-OT-
At slave got NVMe drive. Finding another mobo is almost impossible also need screen, cable and connector. Easier way will be find Clevo for parts from that time with eDP and resolder. What modification all you made for this platform? The eDP connector is 30 pin. The motherboard costs like 500€ and cable maybe 20€. The only modification I did was making a new heatsink for the new RTX MXM GPUs.
