Using my laptop unplugged right now. And you can squeeze some good BATTERY life on these things. I am at 74% battery, with estimated 3 hours and 45 minutes usage left. I set my unplugged max CPU usage to 99%, and doing so prevents the CPU from doing all that crazy turbo high frequency boosting it does normally. I cannot undervolt it, so doing this automatically undervolts it due to lower max clock speed. I have the RTX4090 turned on Auto, so it uses Optimus and runs on the iGPU built into the 14900HX. Open a game and the RTX 4090 kicks in automatically. So, Its actually very useable as a machine on battery only. This was one thing that my Clevo 15" with Intel i7 8086K+GTX1080 was NOT capable of whatsoever. It was always a dog that sucked a battery terribly. I know people pick on these BGA machines, but heres the thing. While older laptops use to be really cool. Desktop CPU's, and MXM higher power level GPU's. When I got my Clevo 15" it was a mere 1080P 120HZ panel, and that thing would get murdered in demanding games like RDR2 and other titles. This was in 2018 era only 1 year and 8 months after the GTX1080 desktop was launched. And my prior GTX1080 MXM was comparable to GTX1080 Desktop class GPU's with the 255 watt bios flashed on to it. Well, my current RTX 4090 laptop is not even a RTX4080 desktop equivalent, It is over 2 years old now since the launch of 4090 Mobile, and it absolutely smashes any game today at a higher resolution. So, while laptops have gone more in the direction of BGA, they are also extremely fast and much more useable as actual gaming machines today, than any prior DTR gaming laptop has EVER BEEN before! I hate to say it, but DANG! This Predator 18 Helios is a beast. The 4090 mobile with DLSS+ Frame Gen on 2560x1600 is literally overkill lol. The CPU is just as much overkill. It’s all BGA, and very good piece of equipment I think. I feel like the older real DTR laptops were so cool that they had real desktop chips etc.. But dang, when real world performance is this much better, lasting this much longer, I don’t think it matters. -

I think the biggest issue with the 5090 is AIB’s bought up all of the cores, and they are milking them out at a min inflated MSRP, and then Nvidia is pushing the business to business sales at a massive level beyond MSRP, this is because we are in a AI boom. Microsoft CoPilot, Deepseek, etc, all these companies want Nvidia GPU’s. This leaves a tiny piece for the gamer to buy an GPU from available inventory, and then scalpers take of 98% of that already small pie. So Nvidia inventory is primarily ruined from scalpers I think. -

I also sent a reply to their automated email response after signing up in February. The one that says. “You have been signed up for 50 series notification etc” I replied the same day to that email, and said “I am a real gamer, I own a 4090 and need a 5090FE thank you” they sent me a direct buy link on 3/11. So something to try just saying lol. -

I was totally done with even wanting a RTX 5090 all together. Then this email rolls through. Im shocked they picked me. Anyways, $1,999 seems right for sure. These $3,000+ prices are just way too much money. So I agree with that 100%. The AIB companies need to ease up on the MSRP’s. I always thought of AIB cards as +$50 to +$250 more over the FE model at most. And looking at it today they are becoming the scalpers. Nvidia didn’t increase the price of the 5090FE. So I don’t understand why the AIB’s all increased the price before tariffs even hit. Makes me think it’s all fake and purely for profits and more money. -

I GOT IT!!!! RTX 5090FE on the way! Man, the support of this community and trust of this forum and also overclock.net is pure astounding. I was able to get the funds together and secure my order for a 5090FE at $1,999. Paying more than $1,999 is too much for me. This is very reasonable. Looking back now, I originally had a budget of $2,800 range. Anyways, I think Nvidia saw how much I was hating on them, and they sent the email to see if I’d still bend over for them 😂 (I did of course) -

I’n glad you were able to get one! That’s good that they sold out to actual people probably. What CPU are you using now? I considered building with one of these. I think it’s probably one of the most anticipated CPU’s right now, to me at least. It has the 9800X3D gaming power, and the 9950X beastly multithreaded power all in one. I’m glad AMD took their time releasing it, because I think they had some stability issues with the 7950X3D originally with memory, long training times etc, and just random instability. -

Anyone want a 5090FE? I got a priority access purchase link from Nvidia. I don’t have the funds to use it! lol. 😂 I may try to throw the funds together. 😬 it’s gonna be a hard PUSH to get it done. isd12 -

So far I just redid the Liquid Metal and GPU thermal paste. I uninstalled a few things on the factory OS, I can’t tweak anything else. The Windows 11 is still a little bloated but not too bad, I just keep the Predator app installed. I find the Predator software to be pretty good. I have some nice profiles setup, and I can push a button to pop between them. I have a balanced profile with auto fan that I use while working during the day, and I never even hear the machine fans. I’ll look in to Aida 64 that’s a good idea. I’ve honestly been just playing on it more than actually benching it. -

Made a quick video. I was most impressed by how tight the core to temps are. I can’t push it. But, It pushes its self really well stock anyways I think. I find the CPU boosting pretty high in games. I really like it! -

@electrosoft How are these temps during a single R23 run on my 14900HX Laptop? This is 100% Fan speed of course. -

So happy with my build!!! So happy it does not leak. -

System is leak tested and air tight at 0.45 Bar! It wasn’t on the first go. It kept losing pressure. It was a bad hardline tubing connection. Had to sand the end of a tube, make it flat and smooth and that did the trick. I cannot run more than 0.50 bar or one of my 90 degree fittings swivels leaks lol. I’ll replace it for sure. I hate bubbles in my loop. Each individual main part was checked for leaks outside of the loop. That’s a nice GPU @Mr. Fox I like it -

Doing some more bends. I hope this thing is air tight lol. I’ll do a leak test soon. It is not complete just yet though. I really need to get a 4090 block I’m being cheap though, part of me doesn’t want to spend another dime. We’ll see. -

This was a complex bend for me. But I managed okay on the first go! I discovered that if you just hold the tube in place, and check it by eye, and mark where you think the 90 degree bend needs to be, it actually works out. I haven’t used a tape measure one time. I have just eyed everything out. And put a dot, bend, cut, dot, bend cut etc. I have not had to redo a single tube. And Anyways, almost done with it! I just need a G1/4 Y-adapter, and a G1/4 drain valve for my basement dual D5 (This way I can quickly and easily drain the loop for maintenance, this system weights about 100+ pounds if I guessed, no exaggerating here, I literally cannot lift it or move it, so I have to make the drain easy to access without moving or tipping the case at all, because unfortunately it’s just too large and way too heavy to move at all) I also need some bright purple coolant. (NO PASTELS) May use a pink or red, maybe even a blue, maybe nvidia green. Would love to hear everyone’s opinions on colors, or maybe drain recommendations. (I’ve never ran a drain before) -

Yes it has (6) PCIe 8 pin connections, and (1) Gen 5.1 connection. (2) of the PCIe are used for CPU, and (4) more can be used for a second GPU if needed. It’s a very nice PSU! I love that it has fan headers, and usb 2.0 headers on it for easy cable routing. Everything plugs in to the PSU. The removable magnetic dust/fan cover is really awesome! I also use excel and PowerBi on a daily lol. 4K is amazing though! That’ll give the 4090 a good workout. Although still runs it easily maxed out on all modern titles. The 4090 comfortable works with 600+ watt power limit even at 4K. Unfortunately not the case for the 5090 lol. (More like starvation model) 😂 -

I found one in the package! So essentially it has two gen 5 PCIe cables, and one being the preferred method I suppose. That is very NICE! I never even thought of it like this. -

Being able to directly hook up all of our fans, and pumps, and USB 2.0 devices directly to our Power supply is a thing of MAGIC!!! -

@Papusan I’m selling my 4090 for $500 bucks and snatching a 5070 ASAP! 🥴 What I am doing is putting a waterblock on my RTX 4090. I just ordered one of those Optimus ultra soft 3mm Fujipoly rear full cover thermal pads. These pads are like a god send to any GPU. It’s truly a miracle what happens when we cover our whole GPU backside with a thermal pads. And more build pics!! I have discovered that when you use hard tubing, each piece to connect a component is like specially crafting a single pipe to a custom fit. The process takes the longest. Bending, Cutting, beveling the edges. It’s a process! But when you get it just right, it’s very rewarding! -

I’m excited to upgrade my 4090 laptop and 4090 desktop GPU once the 5090 laptop and 5090 desktop parts Are no longer interesting to the whole world. 😀 These companies AMD and Nvidia are so shady and extremely greedy. -

Id be running that MSI 1300w over the EVGA 1600w any day, smaller and could probably pull down the same juice without breaking a sweat. That’s just my opinion. My MSI 1KW with the single 2x6 Gen 5.1 connector has been one of the best PSU’s I’ve ever owned, the fact that it has been powering a w3175X/Doninus Extreme/ 192GB DDR4/ 5 pumps/ RTX 4090 with 666w bios Is a miracle. This is a system with 2x24 pins meant for (2) power supplies. It has always stayed silent and never batted an eye to this system, it’s a much smaller unit than I’d typically run but that just goes to show how good the unit has been. Just my system ram consumes 120 watts under heavy loads 🤣 Both my EVGA power supplies were noisy and sub par. Maybe the 1600w models were built to different standards. But my EVGA models also had that big fat C19 style power plug too. I’m still using one of them in my son’s build but even with his RTX 3060/12900KS we hear the coil whine sometimes. Lately the random power offs have been occurring and I’m worried this 2nd EVGA unit is on its way out. I’ve never owned a EVGA 1600w, so I cannot speak on those units. Maybe they are good. My white Lian Li 1200w Edge Gold will be here tomorrow, I hope it’s as good or better than the MSI PSU. 😁 -

The air cooled stock 9070XT is still faster than the worlds fastest watercooled tapped out XOC’d 3090Ti. I think that’s pretty good. Shame these AIB’s and Retailers are a whole bunch of scammers/scalpers. And now the 9070XT price is just too high to make sense. $600 is good. But I think everyone as a whole needs to stop buying graphics cards. I cannot support this horrible market we’re in. -

Build update. The GPU sits so well. Just perfectly straight. The case quality and also case and motherboard rigidity play a huge impact on this. -

I have torn down my entire test bench in a matter of minutes. I plan to hook the laptop up to the chiller now 😂 I’m joking. But I do have the pumpas ready to go in new rig. Going to tear them down for inspection. But chilled water doesn’t grow anything so it’s amazing how all of the parts are just pure spotless inside. -

It’s really a great platform! It has been crazy reliable. I wasn’t expecting to like it this much. But it’s a great platform.
