  1. thx for the kind words bud, i feel like an idiot 😛 trying to remember how many cpus ive destroyed thus far in my pc lifetime... aside from 1-2 cheapass budget cpus to hone my vice delid skills (back in the day there were no resdy made delidders, had to help urself 😄) i think this might be my very first cpu haha 😛 storage, mobos, gpus, even ram, have all crapped out on me before, but not cpus. in that case it was about time i guess?! 😄 anyways, ill first have to check and see what i got with the new cpu before deciding on delidding. itll hopefully get delivered by tuesday. problem is also time constraints, this weekend was basically a golden opportunity to do the cooling upgrade for cpu & gpu, not sure when the next time is ill get this chance #familylife
  2. nah not interested in water blocks. i got the air version specifically to stay on air. i just filled up the gap between PCB and backplate. welp, seems like i killed the 9950X3D 💩 delidding went down pretty smooth, but i think something about the TG HPHS install sent it into oblivion. after lots of troubleshooting i swapped the 7950X back into the socket and after many attempts it finally booted up (apparently the mobo asks if the cpu had been switched and one needs to manually confirm that. however that message didnt show up, just blackscreen. found out about this "invisible message" online and just attempted a blind confirmation via kb, it worked 😛). im relieved that the mobo is still functional and also LUCKY that i still have the 7950X around (its already on sale on ebay but no buyer yet). sooooo yeah....i guess time to order a new CPU 😄 and the RAM binning will have to wait 😛 ugh, this is so annoying....welp, maybe the new cpu will at least have a better IMC.
  3. kool, TG putty pro came in today, exactly as hoped / planned 🙂 did two stock baselines for the GPU and CPU before i get to tinkering: 5090 OC (+355/+3000) 60min Alan Wake 2 4K maxed out DLSS Qual Core: 64.0C avg. / 65.2C max. vRAM: 69.8C avg. / 72.2C max. Voltage: 0.984V avg. / 1.010V max. Fans: 1618 RPM avg. (43%) / 1638 RPM max. (44%) Power: 529.6W avg. / 545.6W max. Clock: 3027 Mhz avg. / 3172 Mhz max. Load: 97.8% avg. / 99.0 % max. vRAM usage approx. 13.3 GB 9950X3D (Full Stock, Kryonaut on IHS) 60min. CB2024 looped Clocks (total): 4901 Mhz avg. / 4756 - 5340 Mhz Range Vcore: 1.115V avg. / 1.074 - 1.225 V Range CPU Pkg. Power: 199.6 W avg. / 198.4 - 200.0 W Range CPU Temps (Tctl/Tdie): 73.1 C avg. / 71.0 - 75.0 C Range To put the 9950X3D temps into perspective I compared the data with my previous stock 7950X: -19 C cooler based on ambient temp delta Radiator fans at 43% RPM with the 9950X3D vs. the 7950X (same fan curve) Case fans at 72% RPM with the 9950X3D vs. the 7950X (same fan curve) 4901 Mhz (9950) vs. 5159 Mhz (7950) avg. Clocks = -5% lower clocks on the 9950X3D 2378CB vs. 2163 CB avg. score = +10% higher score on the 9950X3D 199.6W vs. 228.5W pkg. power = -13% pkg. power on the 9950X3D Now you know how crazy the comparison is between 9950X3D and 7950X. It uses less than half of the RPM at 5% lower clocks and is 19C cooler, while at the same time being 10% faster! aight now for some workout and then off to tinkering 🙂
  4. that goes without saying! 😄 hopelessly power-starved left right n center!
  5. hm depends....one might argue that since im reaching 600W with far less voltage my chip is extra leaky 😄 but ure right in that i have no idea how much the voltage values this gen correlate to overclocking capabilities. i just know its currently looking quite chaotic and all over the place, hard to judge. bumped down another 5 mhz on the core, now at +355 offset. had soft crashes / CTDs in Deliver Us Mars. this game is quite the stability test lol
  6. bro @Papusan time to throw out that cheap garbage peasant Astral LC of yours, your actual 5090 sku just dropped: https://www.techpowerup.com/335948/galaxs-hof-oc-lab-launches-geforce-rtx-5090d-xoc-le-flagship-card-price-usd-4120 with that MSRP im sure u can buy it in norway for a measly 10k+😄
  7. totally get it and i must say i agree with it. while i wouldnt have gotten an FE im also not gonna start binning 5090s lol. i know i might not have the best overclocked in this card but i also know its definitely not bottom of the barrel. sure i might be well off compared to many other ppl but doesnt mean i can pump out tens of thousands of bucks just to bin some gpus 😄 with RAM, now thats another story 😉 especially now when RAM prices seem to really bottom out!
  8. aight boiz, time for daddy to do some tinkering this weekend. conductonaut extreme arrived today, hopefully the TG putty pro will be here by tomorrow, as well 🙂 CPU & GPU cooling upgrade incoming!
  9. u got enough storage there bud? 😄 (i know i know, look whos talking! 😛 glad im not the only SSD fanatic here hahaha) hm you mean to say that manually locking in a higher voltage might help push it up? where does yours land at full stock vs. locking it in manually?
  10. no dice on unlocked vRAM OC, that is hardlocked in the vBios. so well need the XOC vBios including that special sauce software to drive it... and yeah, can confirm from what ive seen, voltages of a card dont change when flashing different vbios versions. however, there might be different boosting behaviour in terms of power spikes that the card is allowed to do.
  11. wondering though if this difference in max reachable voltage actually gives u guys anything extra? especially with that power limit in place... now, where did i put that XOC vbios again....must be somewhere here..... 😛
  12. welp thats the sucky thing, it can get you out of nowhere, even if u had no issues beforehand whatsoever. im happily chugging along on 572.83 while others are crash n burning on it 😄 shouldnt be this way...this is not the way really sounds more and more like its driver-related then. was the hard reset overclocking related? duuuuude, that card looks crazy! mine only does 1.01V at stock with clocks around 2825 Mhz, with voltage slider maxed it goes up to 1.025V 😄 those voltages are insane! ive only seen maybe 1-2 other cards that can break through 1.1V, u definitely have a special one there. 3000+ Mhz at stock, crazy... and yes ive noticed the same, voltages are all over the place, heavily depending on what ure running and even fluctuate wildly during sessions / bench runs. thats even the case if the power limit hasnt even been reached yet. not sure whats going on, hope this is smth that can be rectified with drivers / vbios updates.... overall, its total chaos when it comes to clocks and voltages, every card is so different among 5090s, both in wattage/clocks/voltage, way more variance than with the 4090. those 630W, are those transient spikes or peak load? i might have to give your vbios a go, pls share with the class! 😄 keep us in the loop on your findings, highly interested 🙂
  13. LOL aint nobody got time for that@clean install. besides, my current setup IS pretty fresh, i installed it shortly before i got the 9950X3D, so its barely 2 months old 😛 and yes for me thats fresh, i used to do yearly clean installs, but nowadays i just go with every hardware refresh 😄 gotta prioritize that precious little freetime as a dad... ill bide my time for now regarding drivers, 572.83 has been pretty good thus far, with the only caveat being those hard system freezes during stability testing. but since ive dialed in my D2D settings, im good. and yeah, ive been following the same philosophy forever now: upgrade, sell off parts, add some pocket money here and there, ready to go for the next upgrade cycle 🙂 works like a charm! so lets see, next steps in tuning for me would be: - get like 5-10 RAM kits in the 8000-8400 range (incl a CUDIMM 9600 kit, just out of curiosity) and bin them for my CPU/mobo combo - get some TG thermal putty pro and fill out the gap beneath the backplate for some thermal improvements. after checking igorslab review, specifically thermal conductivity of the thermal pads and paste on the vRAM/VRMs/core, wouldnt make much sense to take the card apart and replace those. but backplate is no biggie, should shave off a few degrees here and there i reckon. - get some TG conductonaut extreme and delid my 9950X3D before doing some ocing on it. the way i see it, with binned RAM and an overclocked 5090, ill likely need all the CPU juice i can get to be able and keep up! so much to do, so little time....
  14. duuuude....who TF came up with that silly idea to update drivers?! OMFG! i just spent several hours getting my system to properly boot up again! so i ran DDU to prepare for the 576.15 install, rebooted aaaand....blackscreen O.o switched to iGPU....still blackscreen. BUT WAIT, i can see the mouse cursor! at least sometimes LOL but no dice, had to use my lady's machine, prep a win RE usb drive, manually inject AMD RAID drivers to access my storage, then tried to run system restore, STILL NO DICE. so i ran startup repair and....finally an image! then i reran system restore from before running DDU inside the system and now all is well again. yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, im sticking to 572.83 for the time being. seems to me that DDU isnt up to snuff yet with the latest drivers, holy guacamole what a shit show NVIDIA! fix ur crap! /rant
  15. HA! A SINGLE SPOT WITH 99% GPU AND BELOW 240 FPS! 6090 JUSTIFIED! 🤣 "the bane of my existence" had to rofl at that 😄 as i said, VERY curious to see the results with my current oc, will keep u in the loop. for me its been hard freezes requiring a reboot every. single. time. not even one recovery thus far! very annoying! while playing Deliver Us Mars yesterday i marveled at the clocks, i was basically running the same 3030-3100 Mhz core clocks as with the 4090 before, only now with 33% more cores and GDDR7 pushed to 34 Gbps....this is just pure, unadultared fun! 😄 edit: hate to burst ur TSE bubble, but i just passed a 1h loop of it at my +360 core oc 😄 all good!
  16. some very interesting points u made here, sir! first up, ill give TSE GT2 looped a go, curious to see what happens 😄 will report back. and yes, i follow the same logic, its stable until the next game / application 😄 1kW vbios daily, you say? thats what i did with my 4090 for....i dunno, close to two years? flashed it right when it came out, never looked back 😄 as mentioned, the locked voltage helps keep things in check 🙂 although i DO expected the 5090 to probably max out even a 1kW vbios in some cases LOL with the 4090 i "only" went up to like 750-800W in some usage scenarios. BUT, cooling on the 5090 is even beefier, so im catiously optmistic in this regard. nevertheless, its all talk until we actually get to stretch out gpu legs, power limit wise... the recovery point u bring up is VERY interesting. i am currently scratching my head a bit as to why the 5090 cannot recover from an unstable OC. the 4090 did so very competently, but with the 5090 thus far i only get a system freeze that i need to manually reset. otherwise no dice. u say this is not the case with 576.02? might be driver related then... i might give 576.15 a go, now that the temp sensor issue seems to be fixed. 5090 is a beast indeed. and i can only repeat myself: i am astounded at how quiet my battlestation is under full load with the 9950X3D + 5090, never thought this was possible... admittedly, havent oced the CPU yet, but its also still full stock, not delidded yet 😄 still lots to do!
  17. lol nah i couldnt be bothered with such seasonal profiles 😄 i just want a stable D2D OC once all the initial tuning is done 🙂 did the same, started with a quick n dirty +300/+350/+400, noticed 400 onwards was unstable so now backing down bit by bit. currently at +360 and stable thus far. what were ur last stress tests that showed instability on your side? did a bunch of transcoding yesterday without issues. fun fact: on the 4090 i couldnt do transcoding and gaming at the same time, gpu clocks would be locked to idle or slightly above that (dont as me why, no idea to this day!) and system RAM usage would max out. now with my new SSD setup (PCIe 4.0 vs. SATA before for media storage) and the 5090 system RAM usage is only at 50% and gpu clocks are unaffected. sooooo, gaming session while transcoding in the background, thats the stuff! 🙂 yup i feel ya. wanna enjoy the card a bit before doing too much non-stock tinkering on it haha 😄 besides, as of yet not really worth it without an XOC vbios. as u mentioned, the only vbios worth trying atm would be the Astral one, ive seen some user reports with up to 5% perf. boost going from stock vbios oced to stock astral vbios. seemed a bit sus to me, esp. since it was a lower-tier card (dont rembember, i think it was a palit? or a tuf?), but worth investigating. in any case, thats what a dual vbios card is for, no risk of bricking 🙂 one of the reasons why an FE would never end up in my shopping basket. even with a 1kW XOC vbios the card would be voltage limited far before there would be any risk of it going up in flames (naturally, assuming psu/cable is up to snuff lol).
  18. another game = another stress test 😄 i just started playing Deliver Us Mars and turns out my core OC aint stable. so back to the drawing board! just thought Id let you guys know in case ure looking for a nice stability test for gpu oc 😛 stable thus far (increasing order of difficulty to get OC stable) Alan Wake 2 Titanfall 2 3DM Speedway Unity Enemies and now Deliver Us Mars. 60 min. each btw at 4K maxed out. edit: and done, lost -10 Mhz on the core OC to get it stable in Deliver Us Mars. Now for some gaming without crashes 🙂
  19. so i installed gpu tweak III after bro @Mr. Fox pointer and also some reports that the enhanced OC setting might allow for higher vRAM OC. no dice tho, still only capable of +3000 or up to 34 Gbps. uninstalled again, sticking with PX1.
  20. keep me in the loop as to your results when u get to the "hard stuff" 😄
  21. thats ok, as long as everyone's happy with their purchase we can focus on crapping all over NGreedia 😄 so, enough benching / stress testing / tuning for now, first gaming session with the 5090 tonight 🙂
  22. function over form! 😄 first and foremost, i got the Suprim because of its superior cooling, the sleek non-gamery looks only came in second 😛 but yeah, as i said before: when spending this ridonkulous amount of money, i make sure i get what i actually want, and not just "anything that is currently available".
  23. yeaaaah F that, staying on 572.83 for the time being 😄 now that i think about it, the meager perf. increase in AW2 is probably due to the shitty drivers....
  24. havent seen one yet either 😄 id be curious to see how far one could go. based on XOC results ive seen at 35+ Gbps we "shouldnt" be loosing out on too much bandwidth, but any artificial clock block is just wrong... im still on 572.83. hm, what kinda clock penalty are we talking here on 576.02? now ure making me not want to update as badly anymore 😄 dude, a clean install a month? LOL aint nobody got time for that 😄 got some more bench data for you guys: 4090 OC vs. 5090 OC Alan Wake II 4K maxed out with DLSS Quality Tested 6 different savegames, avg. fps listed 66 fps vs. 72 fps = +9.6% for the 5090 OC something is definitely funky here, when checking reviews im seeing roughly 30-35% uplift in AW2 with RT. no idea whats up with this, will have to look into this further. Titanfall II 4K maxed out incl. adaptive resolution Tested 15 different savegames, avg. fps listed 143 fps vs. 185 fps = +30% for the 5090 OC now this is more like it! Last but not least, i did some test transcoding. Converted a total of 6 episodes of a tv show at 1080p to get to a smaller filesize without much quality loss (HEVC H.265 via NVENC), using Xmedia Recode. 4090 = 5971 seconds = 1h 39m 31s 5090 = 3086 seconds = 51m 26s thats a whopping 94% performance boost a.k.a. almost halving of the transcoding time, NICE! im guessing this is likely a combo of 50% more NVENC units (3 vs. 2) and the vastly increased vRAM bandwidth. me likey 🙂
  25. exactly. and the noise level on this thing is virtually non-existent. i barely notice any difference between idle and load LOL has probably something to do with the fact that my case sports a total of 14 fans 😄
